It's because brink is poorly coded. TERRIBLY coded. Worse than blackops when it came out.
Requirements aren't that high, tbh. For recommended settings, the G73 doesn't make it. But it clears the minimum requirement by quite a bit.
-
Actually the Brink problem are related to Splash Damage, not Id and its engine. The developers just receive the source code and they optimize it for different platforms. In the particular case of Brink they recognize the problem and they already stated a patch for fixed. It's ridiculous and old engine runs either jumping or unplayable even in advanced desktop configurations (either 5870 or 6970). For the rest of games with opengl engine, Doom3, Quake 4 and even QW:ET run perfect. The problem is because Splash Damage implemented many post processing effects not supported for the original IdTech4. Basically, the code is middle way from IdTech4 and IdTech5; does any of you saw texture streaming in Quake4? even in xbox360? (btw Quake4 never was developed as a 360 game, it's just the PC Quake4 with medium settings running in 360)

Thank u Dallers for your input.
Effectively the G73 is below recommended but still the game doesn't look like it's power/graphic crunching game.
Hence, it still feels like not running properly even with 11.5a modded (Guru) with sharp drops of FPS for no reason and abrupt "up & down" FPS.
Not to add the severe lag when playing online.
I want so much to enjoy this game but it simply is not giving me a chance to..
I don't know why it is jittery even at lower resolutions and lowest settings.
Ironically playing at different resolutions with different settings config (doing some testing with different graphical options on and off) doesnt really make of a difference..
I am not PC/IT expert but there's something not normal going on.

I'm planning on doing a reformat with latest updates and stuff I've missed over the last 4-5 months or so, including BIOS updates and such. I want the latest mobility driver out of the box without resorting to modded drivers and such. -

I deleted a number of posts. Please stay on topic for the new ATI driver release. If you want to talk about specific games and their (general, not G73/G53 specific) performance, please go to the gaming forum: Gaming (Software and Graphics Cards)
Thanks. -
can anyone explain to me what are CAP 's for (better performance for some games? )

AMD Catalyst 11.5a Hotfix (8.85.6 RC2 - May 12) - Guru3D.com Forums -
Currently running stock driver since are the only one that run BO almost flawlessy -
I'm quite new to this and I'm having trouble understanding the steps involved when installing this...
I have an ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card running ATI CCC 2009.0318.2141.37097 on an ASPIRE 8935G acer laptop.
Do I have to first uninstall my current driver, then install:
I tried this before... but CCC fails to load for some reason. Is CCC and OpenGL driver included in this package?
Thanks in advance!! -
Once this is done you should run Driver Sweeper, and you should run it again in Safe Mode (if you do not know how to trigger safe mode, while booting up keep pressing F8).
Then you should install the new drivers and all should be fine.
A registry cleaning procedure with some programs is also suggested, (ccleaner is a good example) before installing the new driver.
Try to do everything again, if they does not work, I would suggest to stick with 11.4 or try to check if a vBios update is available for your machine.
edit,
since it was the pc fixing day, (bios, new audios and such) I tested some more Driver releases and I did some basic PC MARK7 test
Result with Stock Drivers
http://3dmark.com/pcm7/35341
Result with 11.5 modded
http://3dmark.com/pcm7/35422
If you care to take a look you will see that DirectX9 lost like 5 FPS from the upgrade, I guess this is not normal
edit 2
Did another scan
http://3dmark.com/pcm7/35534
I wonder why the CPU clock is slower with new driver, can this be the issue? but if it COULD, how in the hell is the CPU affected by the Vide Driver, this makes no sense at all
Edit 3
reverted back to stock again and...
http://3dmark.com/pcm7/35621;jsessi...pcm7/35621?key=EF6jUrfknDS96SL8HqmBrhRsvDhC0H
still higher score :7
that makes no sense (cpu speed clocked higher as well) -
Any1 one has any ideal how to optimize CCC video settings ? Gladly appreciate it

Its a universal package like the previous ones, installs on all (mostly). I just installed it..
Here's asder00's post:
AMD Catalyst 11.5a Hotfix (8.85.6 RC3 - May 16) - Guru3D.com Forums
Guru3D.com Forums - View Single Post - AMD Catalyst 11.5a Hotfix (8.85.6 RC3 - May 16)
Edit: According to Andrew D (CatalystCreator) 11.5aRC3 has performance improvements for brink, and it definitely did improve performance, finally 30fps+ all the time (30-60fps).
am running 1080p,high textures, medium shadows no AA or AO on 800/1100 btw.
Still get occasional slowdowns and gpu utilization never goes above 70-80% somehow.
Re-Edit: i tested the above on the 1st map of the campaign which is all indoors but when i launched a random map which was mostly outdoors and a lot larger, i was met with the same lag again.. 20-25fps with same settings as above. So, RC3 definitely did improve Brink performance but far from perfect... -
any noticable changes in brink ?
i have 11.5 asder mod and the ambient occlusions are klling the game (big drop in frames)
didn't tried RC3 -
Made a Mobility package on Driver Reference for RC3
-
-
I had gotten feedback from Ruckermark that it was needed. I haven't tried to install it yet.
-
even with RC3, the mouse lag still exist for me
-
So do we need to use the asder mod or the stock one from ATI site is applicable to our laptop card?
-
^ yup it supports mobility 5800 by default, atleast it worked for me fine but ruckermark seemed to have some problem with it so if you have a prob with the installer not installing driver then refer to asder00's 2nd post which i linked here
btw not that it makes a difference but now its officially up on AMD site here, i know page says last updated 5/9 but the file is rc3(16/9) -
The one in the link from AMD site is the 11.5b RC5 from May 25...
I want to install that, but I wonder how long it will take to get the official fully functional release.
じゃねー ^^ -
what difference does that make? It takes like 3 minutes to change a video driver.
-
is the recent release ( AMD Catalyst? 11.5b hotfix) support mobility :/ so this is supposed to be the witcher 2 hotfix isn't it?
-
that + the new 1.1 patch

Hello guys, ive been looking for help in forums for like 3 days and now i think ive found right place to ask.
I have this Ati mobility radeon HD 5730 and my laptop model is Asus N71ja.
My problem is that whenever i try to launch Brink, it doesent start but this error will pop up: FATAL ERROR: The current video card / driver combination does not support OpenGL 3.1 or newer
Its odd because i didnt had this error when i played for like 1 hour but after i came back it started to do that. and i checked that my ati version will support OpenGL up to 3.2.
Some info about my ati:
Catalyst version: 11.5
Direct3D version: 8.14.10.0716
OpenGL version: 8.14.10.09210
The drivers i found at ati website didnt work at all, so im all out of ideas. Im a bit noobish with stuff like this so ANY help is welcome. I just dont wanna feel like spending 50e for nothing.
-
Hmm. Well, it's not a g-series laptop, and that's what most of us have. So I'd blame your software setup, because no one here can help with hardware.
-
If that game was properly tested and stuff before putting it to stores ppl wouldnt have to do this anyways...
-
Check my Driver page for 11.5b RC5 hotfix, it has Brink updates
-
Download link for 11.5b rc5 hotfix didnt worked. :/
-
Try to use google next time :< Download

link fixed / updated

Okay i finally got the games working and it seems they run smooth and nicely. Only problem is the heat, on desktop its about 62-65 with the gpu and processor, and when playing they are like 92-95, is it safe for play with those numbers? And does anyone know how much the laptop can take before it shutdowns itself.
-
Those temperatures are not unheard of however if you are in the 90's it might be a good idea to blow into the fan vents to shift any dust.
If you reach into the 100's you might want to think about repasting.
The GPU can handle around 115oC max CPU 105oC max but you dont want to be going near those limits. It should shutdown/throttle before you do mind. -
Does that help if i "lift" my laptop more higher from the table, if u know what i mean, coz there isnt much room to air flow in middle of laptop and table.
-
-
Okay thanks for help, ill try to remove any dust i can, see if that helps.
-
Q -
Now i changed the "battery saving mode" and the GPU temperature is now about 75 when playing.
-
Installed 11.5b. No BSODs, and weird events.
