New drivers, and so what?
I´m a moron, I dunno squat, but I can see my temps rise with every new driver, and the performance is the same...
Ok, enlighten me, dear Asus Notebook Geeks, pls.?
-
Drivers should have a minimal effect on your temps I personally see next to no difference in my temperature change since 10.7 the main reason my temps were increasing was because during the months of when a driver is released dust clogged up my fans/heatsink and my paste was gradually degrading.
Without knowing what temps you have idle/load its hard to say.
I would expect its the difference in your ambient temperature a few degree's higher humidity can have a double effect on your laptop temperature. -

Why thank you. -

Thanks Dallers, guess I´m okay then, idle: 57C - 405/1000 @ 0.95V.
Currently in Asia, room temp 31C, outside 35C, and the ladies are hot too!

I have been trying to update my video driver for my ATI card on my G73 laptop.
I deleted the previous driver, then booted in safe and ran driver sweeper, then run crap cleaner on registry.
Unfortunately, device manager does not recognize my ATI card anymore. It only reads the standard VGA adapter.
After, I install the new Catalyst suite, and I try to run it, I just get a message that "there are no settings that can be configured by Catalyst Control Center." I'm assuming this is because device manager isn't recognizing my video card.
I am trying to update to the 11.10 Catalyst Control Center.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
A very discouraged gamer... -
What you have done sounds fine rolling back to a standard vga adapter means it is ready to install the new drivers from scratch and the crap is cleaned.
Do you have the latest Vbios installed?
What driver package are you installing? Make sure it is the entire package and not just single components otherwise you will get the message you are receiving.
Try 11.12 and use this link. -
To be honest, I have never updated my BIOS or my vBIOS. I got this laptop over a year ago.
I have recently downloaded the 213 BIOS from the AMD site but haven't installed it yet.
I have tried to get the latest vBIOS downloads from this site but the links I have tried are broken or don't give me a complete download.
I've never updated a BIOS or vBIOS before so I've been trying to read up on some of these articles so I don't brick my pc.
Anyhow, if anyone can give a current link to a solid vBIOS download, I could sure use it.
From your post, I gather that CCC failing to work is because of my current vBIOS. The file I installed from the AMD site is
11-12_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe
The file I downloaded is 93 MB compared to the file you linked which is 117 MB.
I wasn't sure if I should start a new post so I just tried to pick a thread that seemed somewhat relevant.
Anyhow, thanks for the input and anymore will be welcomed. -
Well the driver should still install did the one I linked you work? They are all different sizes so dont worry too much as long sa it is the entire CCC package and not single components.
Your worry about bricking is not without wisdom I have successfully flashed the last 15 attempts I have done without failure but the 1 failure prior to that leaves a gut feeling each time I do it.
I would say that unless you are facing Touchpad issues dont bother with the BIOS update that is more common to fail if it is going to fail. The Vbios is very straight forward but as long as you have BIOS 211 and not lower as you could face problems if not.
Create a bootable USB Stick after cleaning and formatting it.
Load the files required onto the USB Stick.
Press ESC at boot and select the USB Stick.
Type in the Filename. ie Vflash
It will complete and your just restart.
I have started a new post with the VBIOS on for you. -
Fallout 3 has crashed a few times on me and Action Center claims it is an ATI driver issue. I'm wondering if your file is the same one I downloaded from the AMD site earlier. I'm considering if I should try to install the other driver package to see if it is more Fallout 3 friendly. -
Are you overclocking? If you are try lowering your clocks as that can cause a crash in some games if you are clocking too high. -
Should I install these or DNA-AMD GFX 12.1.1-prev | Do Not Argue?
What are the differences between both? -
Personally I would stick with this AMD Catalyst? 12.1 Preview driver
IF I had a good reason to update my driver.
Are you trying to solve an issue by doing this?
