10227 3D Mark 06. I love my new lappy!

Excellent score out of the box! Have fun - it's a great little machine.
-
What clocks are you using? I hit 11050 yesterday at 2.5GHz (1.175v) and 600/925/1550. Those GPU clocks are about as high as you can go and remain stable.
-
Thanks. You should drive one. It's about as appealing to the average female as a CBR900RR.
They do enjoy being in the passenger seat, though - from what I can tell
-
Well I reinstalled Vista Ultimate, then OC it. Here are my over clocks.
CPU 2.4
GPU 550,950,1375
3D Mark 06 10227
Temps running 3D Mark 06
CPU 72,69
GPU 87

Dude, how are you getting that low, low max GPU temp of 87c with those OC's on the GPU?
I am jealous as Hell!

He probably either has his air conditioning blasting in his room, or his notebook is truly the "chosen one."
In other troll news, sandmann69 has been stripped of all his posts and has been put in NBR prison. Good work, Sheriff Soviet. -
Where you dling this drivers?
-
Here
I've installed 186.42 and run a couple of 3DMark06 trials.
I've been getting the exact same scores as with Dox 185.85. There may be a little temp decrease, but I can't confirm anything yet. I have yet to try gaming with them. -
Thx for the reply, after posting i went searching http://laptopvideo2go.com/ and in their front page they also have 186.42, not sure if this are from the windows update, from nvidia or moded, just wondering if they are the same.
-
Indeed they are exactly the same
-
You could probably squeeze more out of the system with RC7. Those temps are pretty similar to mine in a 77F room. I top out between 83C and 87C in Left 4 Dead maxed out. -
I was wondering if anyone with an unlocked multiplier CPU (like the X9100 I have) has figured out how to go above the 11.5x limit set by CrystalCPUID?
Forge? Have you played around with that at all? I'd vastly prefer adjusting the multiplier rather than increasing the FSB (which defeats the purpose of having the fancy shmancy "Extreme" CPU BS). -
I think buried somewhere in this topic Tev brought up modding some of the Crystal files to allow multiplier unlocking. I don't know for sure though, I might be thinking about something else.
And I think Forge might be gone for a while. He bought some new heatsinks and such for a mod like Soviet did on his Sager or whatever. Haven't seen him post yet today.
Edit: But when he comes back I hope it's to let us know that adding heatsinks to the thermal pipe drastically reduces temperatures. -
You can't change the multiplier because our laptop BIOSes are severely limited and do not give you the same overclocking options that desktop BIOSes do.
The thing with CPUID involves running the CPU at lower voltages than Intel has allowed it to. -
That's what it was. I had a feeling is was just the voltages, but I couldn't remember.
-
Yeah I porbably could but for now I am happy with my OC's, don't want to push my baby too hard. I just got her
-
In other news, I had to force myself through an hour of Bioshock before I couldn't take it anymore.
It was maxed out at native rez using stock clocks but at 0.90v Extra undervolt. Drivers were 186.42
GPU temps maxed out at 78C which certainly isn't shabby -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Forcing yourself to play is an occupational hazard. Be careful, TevashSzat.
-
You had to force yourself through an hour of Bioshock?
I thought it was a good game...
Those temps are fantastic though. -
Well.....thats why I'm forcing myself through the game.
Everyone likes it and loves the story but I haven't found the game to be anything fantastic.
I've been close to pulling the uninstall trigger dozens of times already..... -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
No such luck. BIOS doesn't allow it, and if I up my multiplier in CrystalCPUID to 12.0 I get no change. CPU-Z has it locked at 11.5 even when running Orthos.
I'm still here. The blocks I ordered (12x12x8mm) are simply too tall. I ordered two different sets with a height of 4mm.
I'l be sure to make a write up once I get the heatpipe modded.
EDIT: Took 186.42 for a 3DMark spin.
For background, I had conducted a previous test with 185.85 Dox, under these conditions:
CPU: 11.5x, 1.350v, 3.06 GHz
GPU: 500/1250/799
Ambient: About 73F-74F
GPU was heated up in Furmark, and I ran the 3DMark06 test when GPU temperature had dropped to 65C.
Max temperature was 88C, and, through EVGA Precision eyeballing, I only hit that max temperature once, during the second GPU test (Firefly Forest), for about fifteen seconds. It usually hung around 86 once the fans kicked in.
Next test, under the same conditions, but with 186.42.
I maxed out at 89C, again for the last part of Firefly Forest. During the first GPU test (Return to Proxycon), I maxed at 86C, and my fans didn't even spin up. My temperatures usually stayed around 86-87. Final score was slightly higher than my first score. -
Just ran 3DMark06 again. Scored just under 11000.
CPU temps: 0, 73C 1, 69C
GPU: 87C
The highest I've gotten was 11050 with the same clocks. Can't get any higher than that. -
After installing dox 185.85 drivers I have found an 8C drop in my max GPU temps.
-
Hrm... This has me somewhat concerned, as when I ramp my P7350 up to 2.5 GHz it Always maxes around 80 on 3Dmark06, whereas the GPU stays about the same as yours. Were you using the same clocks that I did a few pages back? I've tried again since that test, after fixing my VID issue, but even at 1.150 it heats up to around 80.
-
Thank You!
In all seriousness, we'd get the same trolling over at S2ki.com: "You'd better leave that car alone or it'll blow up! Why do you want it to go faster?" and crap.
Drove me nuts.
-
Man, I'm getting seriously jealous of you guys with the low GPU temps! I'll do a 3DMark run again, but I'm pretty sure I was getting 93c at around those clocks.
What have I done to offend God! LOL - don't answer that...

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Well, when I first installed my new CPU, I was getting 91C at stock everything.
-
So is gaming performance generally better with 186.42 than with 185.85?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
I still have to test more games, but The Last Remnant was getting 75+ frames in all but the heaviest action, and it only maxed at 86C.
Dox 185.85 had similar performance, but I topped out at 87C.
Ambient temperatures were within three degees F. -
Part of my problem is that I've gotten obsessed with getting the absolute system-crusher known as ARMA II to run acceptably.
But I had a bit of a revelation when I tried it on my Tri-SLI (GTX280's)/4.5Ghz e8600 desktop and it *still* ran like crap.
I think I'll just learn to be happy with my current framerates. -
Thanks for the heads up. I've been playing the hell out of champions online and decided to play total war for the first time since applying 185.85 and indeed it was broken. I'll try the 186.42 drivers in the next few days and see if there is any improvement.
-
I think 186.42 is about the same as Dox 185.85 but 186.42 is supposedly WHQL certified so that would make 186.42 superior.
-
Hey guys, first poster her. I got my g51 and used tevs amazing optimization guide. However, im trying to play some games at 1080p on my tv. I know it supports it but i cant change the resolutions to XX by 1080 when i run a game or anything. Do i need any drivers or anything?
-
Hook the G51 to your T.V. through HDMI out, set the G51 to HDMI output ONLY, turn off the screen (I do) and close it.
Then you can go through the resolution settings and do so. I really need to make a guide on how to do that. -
Wow, that's high. I can only hit that in FurMark.
At least it's not the 102C the first G51s hit. -
Sitting here waiting for UT3 to D/L from steam...
-
i did that and the highest it lets me go is 1024 x 768. I know this tv is 1080p capable because some of its inputs are labeled 1080p
-
That's weird. IT should automatically output whatever the T.V.'s native is.
-
You have to change the resolution in the nvidia control panel. Here is a good site that has tweaks for games that do not support wide sceen resolutions.

This is what I love most about this hobby. Finding a great deal like this lappy, then tweaking it so it runs like a machine that cost $1000 more then what we paid. Alien Ware and Sager suck my Asus patutie!
-
Anyone feel like trying Champions online and reporting their temps back to me? This game pushes my GPU to 97 degrees. I think you can play for free today:

Closing your laptop while it is running is NOT a good idea. Laptop screens are not very heat resistant and closing your laptop traps the heat generated by the computer in between the screen and chasis/keyboard. Not good. -
Really? Never new that. Thanks for the info.
-
? I do it all the time, sometimes overnight while running Azureus. I've never noticed the screen or the keyboard being warm afterward.
It's not like I'm running Orthos or something and closing it. -
Nothing is Real Notebook Evangelist
The palmrest and keyboard get up to around 90ºF open ( http://www.notebookreview.com/shared/picture.asp?f=45964), and with the laptop closed maybe around 100ºF or so. Heat waves + LCD screen = wrinkling and fading over time plus a reduced lifespan. For a laptop that gets as hot as the G51 does, I wouldn't risk it.

If anyone is interested... Heres some DOX 185.85 vrs. nVidia drivers 3DMark06 battle:
(No overclock in use during the tests, only undervoltage)
(CPU @ 1.113V // GPU @ 0.95V/0.75V/0.75V/0.7V )
DOX 185.85 - 8842 - Max Temp: 91
nVidia 190.62 - 8694 - Max Temp: 91
nVidia 186.56 - 8627 - Max Temp: 91
Conclusion: DOX FTW imho =)
Ps1: Both running on a very clean Win Vista x64 install...
Ps2: Downloading 186.56, and will post results later...
Ps3: Will give a try on 1.9V Extra voltage again later...
Ps4: Sony didn't launch it yet

I've switched back to Dox 185.85 now since the 186.42 from laptopvideo2go at least doesn't seem like it wanted to downclock to 2D after gaming.
-
I literally can't feel any heat from the top of my laptop.
So closed it is.
