LOL I can picture a group of people around this thing literally poking fingers at it and waiting to see what it does lol...

The G51JX-A1 that I was going to purchase is still being held for me the shop has 1 let me know if anyone wants it. I already have a m15x Alienware on its way to me tomorrow and just ordered the m11x. The shop will probably will let it go for less than $1450 shipped. PM me if anyone is interested.

FYI:
Sager NP8760 has the 5300 wireless half card in it. I was looking at the service manual and noticed that there are only 2 antennae wires / connections. Not sure that 3 wires is as important as I originally thought. The reception is very good. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
If you look at the card itself in your Sager NP8760 I think you will find it has all three antennas connected.
-
I hope so. It was not making sense lol. I guess sometimes pictures don't show everything...
-
Also to Ken: How long the game had been running before you took the screenshot (for both screenshot) -
no, but if productivity mode = wifi + word (or notepad/gedit for me), then it's around 1h 40m.
-
So Jx battery life is significantly better than J. I forgot how long the G73H one.. the same? 3 hours ?

battery life test for G73jh

I just took my G51Jx out of the box - and it is indeed a Jx- Manufacturer-ed 01/2010. So yes m0_ - I got it
. I think that they might have sold this to me yesterday for the G51J price - they had it in the store since yesterday and the J was out of stock for the past week. Wish I'd have gone through with getting it yesterday then I'd have the Jx for the J price and a day early
. But this price was only about $10 more once I got it priced matched, I paid 3% extra to use my credit card, but I get 1% back from the card and that 2% gives me all the extra buyer protection and an extra year of warranty, so it'll be worth it hopefully.
I'm planning to test out ME and then ME2 on this thing in the coming weeks - but if anyone has any game demos they want me to run right now I can do that. I want to know if it has a problem right away - if there is one, like the BSOD problems on the G51J, the quicker we find it the more chance they'll fix it and the faster too.
Peter -
are you going to play AvP demos?
-
.
I have to say I like this - many times Canada is behind in the release dates, it's good to be on the cutting edge for once -
I guess that would explain why 1 person owns it. -
6-cells vs 8-cells. I consider it very good for 6-cells battery.

i demandz 3dmark06! -
I'm self-employed and if I can turn around a few hundred dollars tomorrow, I'll overnight the G51JX-X1 from Newegg and have full reviews/pictures up here for everyone to see.
(Unless either XoticPC or Gentech can chime in and let me know how quick they can get one shipped to me. Newegg shows it on-hand right now and I spend over $30k there a year, so I know how they roll.) -
another downclocked GPU ?

Ok, my "First Impressions" Review is up - I'm planning to update it with more info as I keep testing things out during the night and tomorrow. So far it has two 3DMark06 tests (One Turbo and One not) and a couple of pics.
You can see it here: G51JX-A1 Mini Review (First Night Impressions) -

3DMark06 performance seems to be on-par with the Envy 15 2nd Gen, which has the 1GB Radeon 5830.
I've never run 3DMark06... does it allow you to select your benchmark resolution or is it the same for all 3DMark06 runs? -

Thanks for the review Peter, very helpful. Seems like a pretty good 3D mark score. Just below the stock GTX 260m score if I'm not mistaken.
-
Envy 15 2nd gen can break 9k with OC'ing (and probably optimal driver). I guess GTS 360m can break 11k with OC and optimal driver.
I really wish this machine is ~300g lighter though. -
-
. As well if anyone has any optimizations you want me to test out I can do that as well.
Peter
P.S. VZX, I don't have a scale to measure it that precisely, but it could be lighter than the G51J since it lacks the second HDD and has those other internal changes. Many websites and info has basically been a copy/paste job on what the G51J had (you'll find many retailers saying the G51Jx has 2 HDDs and can take 8GB of RAM max for example) - so it may be lighter. Not sure by how much though, but it could be closer to what you want.

About updating the drivers:
I tried to upgrade to the latest nVidia drivers, but currently the GeForce 300M Series (Notebooks) is not an option on their site - just 100M and 200M. Doing a manual scan through the nVidia site came up with the statement that "the manufacturer of this system requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site." Will try download and installing the 195.62 Notebook drivers through the 200M link - here's hoping it doesn't do a check on the Device ID and decide that the 300M isn't yet supported in their latest final drivers (which are from December 4th 2009) or latest beta (December 15th 2009) - feels like the release of Vista all over again... Here's hoping they get back from Christmas vacation soon.
It could be a promising sign though - maybe there are some enhancements to be added to the drivers that could make the GS360M do even better. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes them to get them up now that customers (or least one customer) has a system in their hands. -
I was considering getting one of these... but 3dmarks isn't even cracking 10k - A bit disappointing.
-
Can you do a review with the GTS 360M overclocked?
-
And finally, the Crysis demo video:
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Vt_VHXAK0OI&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Vt_VHXAK0OI&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='480' height="295"></embed></object>Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -

Wow, that was a great demonstration of the monstrous capabilities of this affordable laptop! Thanks! It can run Crysis at 1080p! I don't see the point of AA and will never do.
-
Anyway, I can buy the 3D Vision Kit, attach the G51Jx to my 120Hz TV and view 3D multimedia like Resident Evil 5, right?

check this out,

3D disabled, MW2 47fps
3D enabled, MW2 20 fps
Every time, when we enable 3D, we will lose %40 to %60 fps which is horrible..
I don't know, i will definitely buy G51jx in 1 week, but i can't decide between 1920x1080 no 3D OR 1366 x 768 yes 3D. After i saw 1080p Crysis video from GenTechPc, +1 to 1920x1080Which one you would choose if you were me?
-
@ CCz_Cataphract can you please post a photo of the inside of the asus,
I want to see if it also has 2 bay's for a extra HDD or SSD in the future -
What's with all the artifacing on the Crysis video? Just a side-effect of the capture?

I would go for the G51Jx-A1 and not the 3D version because I can buy the 3D kit and just hook up to my 120Hz HDTV (it sports 100Hz Philips logos on the exterior but hooking up with a laptop shows it maxes out at 120Hz
!) to experience to full experience of 3D!
-
And think about 3D g51Jx, when you show to your friends, bring it to school and see what happens
It is a unique technology actually. And i think its better to hook it up with a strong desktop GPU instead of G51Jx, it will perform more worst than it's own screen IMO. I will check them all tomorrow at Asus dealer!!
And, i think this computer is best for 3D gaming with 1366x768, if ppl want 1920x1080 gaming, they should consider G73JH with better GPU. I don't know i should see both versions... -
If only the G51Jx-3D had a higher res screen. Somewhere between 768p and 1080p would be great, like maybe 1680x945. That would be ideal!
-
Can anyone confirm if the new model has throttling issues? I'm worried about this and must find out before I buy this laptop!
-
Currently I'm writing this on my G51Jx with it on my lap in bed running on Battery Saving w/max 33% processor and 49% screen brightness and Wifi on and I'm 25 minutes into the test and have a reported 76% battery left and 1 hour and 35 minutes remaining. Here's hoping that keeps up and I do get 2 hours or so on these settings. Of course I'd rather I could 2 hours battery life while gaming, but with all the specs on this thing if I can get 2 hours while working then I'd be happy.
Peter -
Has anyone with a jx used it with an iPod touch/iPhone yet? I'm wondering if it's got the weird syncing issues many of these PM55 based notebooks have
-
One strange issue that keeps happening is that for some reason Insert keeps getting acitvated - even though it requires a FN key to activate/deactivate. Is there some other way it could be turning on by itself or that I'm accidentally activating it? Not sure if it's the laptop or Win7 but it's happened to me about 7 times in the past 30 minutes and it happened twice last night.
Thanks,
Peter
