In that case lets trade laptops. I'll test it out for you.![]()

. I just hope Canadian stores don't charge an arm and a leg for the G73 =/ Btw, where did you buy your G51J from anyways? and what price?
-
-
Ah okay, so you and I got it at the same store LOL. I just don't like how they're charging the G71s at 1969.99 before tax. Its a tell-tale sign of the price for the G73 =/
-
It's ok, I'll stick it out with my G51J. I'll probably upgrade the RAM to 6GB in the coming months and stay with it for 2 years instead of constantly changing laptops every year. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and spot a ASUS HD 5870 somewhere by then. -

Anyone know any specifics about the 3D version's release?
Oh, and if I didn't really want the 3D, I would've already pre-ordered that g73, wow thats a beast, and correct me if I'm wrong but i know the desktop hd 5870 is dx11, is the one in the g73 the same one or is it a mobile version with different specs. -

-
That G73 looks pretty nice, BUT.....it looks like it has the same craptacular trackpad as the G72 BB version. /puke

LOL! I'll step to the plate, AGAIN! But I am puzzled here..... I hope Justin's G73 page was not premature here as well. This is an interesting development indeed!
Looks like the cat is outta the bag now...... LOL..... so much for a supposed CES announcement..... will be old news by then!
-
If Justin pops in I'd like a Stream Processor count for the Mobility 5870.

Hmm. I would be much more interested in the Asus with the Radeon if it was in a 15.6" size. It is something to consider though...

I have a good feeling about this one....... (I already said that, didn't I?)
-
. The only issue I have might be if I can't find it at launch date in Canada. At either rate, either I get it on that date or I get it within the week

The thing about the trackpad is that it's got that non-smooth finish on it...it was the deal breaker for me (aside from the lower resolution of the screen at BB). I really liked the plain look of the cover though, but that trackpad just failed so badly for me (I always use the trackpad when I'm not at a table or desk...which is actually the majority of the time for me).

I'll let you know if it's improved.....

LOL!

I could care less about the trackpad but i know there are people who actually use them unlike myself so i wont speak for them
...
For the price there asking (which might not even be accurate i might add) if it turns out to be a lemon ill just sell it and move on... The specs there listing this thing wont last more then 15 minutes on Ebay ... -

Well unless the dwarf versions come with i7 and a 5870 the $1000-1300 machines are not really good value...
I have bought a couple budget machines from Bestbuy but the major problem i have with them is the first upgrade you do to them can take that $1000-$1300 machine and jack it up another $300-500 at which point i asked myself why didnt i just buy the one with everything in it already...
-
well an i7 and all that stuff comes at a premium plus the what you get in the BB models are one hell of a deal if you look at the entire package + 260M GTX, which is the exact same GPU in the A1s which comes at a 400$ premium. Why cough up the extra dough because most games aren't going to botteneck the C2D plus the G series are going to choke anyway playing at 1080p.
And cmon laptops are really arn't meant to be upgraded besides ram and hdd because most of it is proprietary. -
I'll love to see what Best Buy releases next. I would have gotten that G72-x09 (however that goes) except you can't buy additional AC adapters for it
It's a 150 watt, and Newegg's only got 120 watt ones. So I didn't, and now it's sold out anyway.
And "third!" on the not caring about trackpads. I finally just disabled mine in the BIOS a few months back :-D -
-
well, if you can spare another 150 bucks, get this badboy!!

It's probably nice specs, but I wouldn't touch one unless ATi starts supporting their mobile GPUs.

IMO this laptop has turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment. The GTS 360M instead of a GTX 360M has turned me off this laptop completely.

EDIT: Just realised that Xoticpc.com ships internationally, looks like I will be getting the G73JH -

Gentech also ships internationally -

I'm working on it lol.

Here are the specs, what a load of bull from nVidia.

I am so confused, I just ordered a g51j like 5 days ago because a site said it was instock, then they email me and say its not. so i look around and find out that the jx is coming out. which one is better, is the regular j even available to me anymore? I know the gtx 260m is better than the gts 360m, why would asus downgrade? what is going on, do i just get the jx now? I know the 73jh is nice but my price limit stops at 1400. is the jx worse? im sorry lots of questions, just frantically trying to understand before i go back to school
-
Dont waste your time with the G51J or JX. Spend 150 more and get something thats better all around http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=G73JH-A1&Category_Code=
The new G73JH-A1 comes with the newest chipset introduced by ATI and is the first Mobile GPU to support DX11. -
Stability and driver support are #1 for me. If you want to wade into those waters...well first make sure the GPU is actually better, something to my knowledge we don't actually know, but then don't pretend there isn't a gigantic different there in support.
Either way, avoid the non-x version. There's something wrong with the (apparently discontinued regardless) G51J that causes it to blue screen in at least some games. It's not either the CPU or GPU, because they're available in a bunch of other systems without this problem, from Asus and others-it's something specific to THIS system. Hopefully the 'x' will have fixed all this.
Despite this issue, so far as I know Asus is an excellent brand in general. That recent report that was put out had Asus as the most reliable notebook brand, and I know my n80's been completely rock solid pushed pretty darned hard for 10 months. But I wouldn't walk into buying a system with a known issue unless it's been resolved. (Yes yes, I know some people are fine with that risk, but I just don't see the point in gambling $1450 or more when there are other options-including several from Asus-with similar performance and no major issues, or new systems coming shortly.) -
Does anybody know if the g7* series get as hot as the g5* and g6* series?
-
, the G7X series ran cooler than the G5X series, but dont expect sager temps, just lower, but if you wanna see more info check Da1writer's Asus G71GX-RX05 Full Review he ran a lot of stress tests ( so dont just read the first post).
Asus G51Jx-A1 w/ GTS 360m (GDDR5), now available for pre-sales!
