Does Asus ship a drivers disc, or is it zero discs included, period? If you can get at least a drivers disc, it's a simple matter to burn a Win7 disc from the free ISOs floating around and just reinstall the drivers yourself.

Powernotebooks, Gentech, Xoticpc, these are all good sellers. Never dealt with btotech so I wouldn't know. I'm sticking with these guys to buy my things, just because I know that they are reliable. You just can't really go wrong with those guys(and btotech I'm assuming but I don't know)

True. Sometimes it's a bit hard to download them when you don't have your wireless drivers, but there you go.

    Good to know.

just email any one of the sellers, and you should recieve a reply in a matter of hours (sometimes minutes), they usually keep checking the forums.

Guys, does anyone know if they got rid of the glossy plastic around the keyboard and screen? How about the rubbery plastic around the touchpad? All of those things drive me nuts about my G51J.

    Thanks,

    Y2J

Which sellers are you referring to? To transport it from the US to europe costs a lot. (I heard you can expect 1/3 of the laptops value + the 200+ dollar shipping)

And i haven't found any european sellers who sell this and actually will have it in stock soon.

where are those stupid benchmarks from reviewers already? there is only notebookcheck(says about +2% or -2% performance difference both ways) and gamestar.de(i dont trust it) (which says 460m is atleast 10 fps slower in almost every game)

I want more detailed and a trustworthy reviewer!

I want something more detailed and from another reliable source to confirm those benchmarks!

The ASUS G53JW-A1 is totally different. It is like the ASUS G73J, not the ASUS G51JX.

Dude, just ask any one of the sellers from xoticpc, gentech, or powernotebooks, btotech! They are in the forums everywhere, You would have to have your head buried in the sand like a turkey to avoid seeing them here everyday!

Or do you mean they know the european prices/salesmen

They will ship to international destinations as well and it is not that expensive!

    Canada: approx $60 plus customs
India: $150 (14 hours away by plane)

Does this all seem too expensive? Find Justin from xoticpc or Ken from Gentechpc! shoot either of them an email with your address and i give you my word, they will reply back with a quote within hours. They are all very very good resellers and are glued to this thread to help customers.

I now check this thread every hour or so (except when sleeping)

could someone please answer me this?(prefer someone from gentech or xotic) the g53 comes with a 500gb HDD but if i wanted to upgrade to a SSD its an extra 200$ or so.(that i get) but then i have to add another HDD because the 80g SSD isnt enough. now why would i get charged an extra 65$for a 500gb HDD if it already brings one?

and if anyone has any info. that could help me to figure out if the i7-840QM is worth the upgrade(575$) from the i7-740QM

Local retailer that has it is Micro Center

Kinda criminal, when you look at it that way.

It's only a 7% increase in clock rate. You be the judge.

If you want to upgrade the CPU, get an Extreme Edition. You get much more bang for the buck.

Excuse me if you did not want PowerNotebooks.com to answer, but the ASUS G53JW-A1 comes with a 750GB 7,200 RPM drive standard, not a 500GB, and if you want to get the SSD in the primary we move the 750GB 7,200 RPM drive to the 2nd bay and only charge for the mounting bracket (which does not come standard from ASUS)

Dude, i dont think you understand what he was talking about. He was talking about purchasing from an EUROPEAN shop. Gentech and Xotic are both from USA. Shipping from them are much more expensive than what you think, because not only do you have to pay the shipping cost, but also tax and duties which is expensive as hell. I bought my last laptop from Gentech, and my laptop itself costed $2000. But i had to pay $150 for shipping, amd a whopping $500 for tax and duties. So total $2650.

However if your country is a part of European Union EU, and you buy the laptop from another EU country, you dont have to pay tax and duties. Which means $500 less and also less in shipping.

In regards to this, does the G73J have glossy plastic around the screen and keyboard? and rubber plastic surrounding the touchpad?

    Thanks,

    740QM have 2.9 GHz max and 840QM have 3.2 GHz max. 740QM have 6MB L2 cache while 840QM have 8MB L2 cache.

$575 USD, for +10% on one core, and cache which means next to nothing for the majority.

    Can you recommend that?

thanks for the reply! weird though gentech and xotic has the g53 down for a 500gb 7200rpm drive, i might have not read it correctly. i guess there would be a charge for the bracket that i does not come with. so i now understad the charge a bit better. thx again!

On one core? On all four cores you mean?
And the bigger L2 cache, the better. In intense programs with rendering etc (gaming etc) you will get a improvement. Anandtech tested two CPUs with the same clock speed but one with 2MB L2 cache and the other with 4MB, the one with 4MB L2 cache got 10% improvement in various tasks.
But it all depends on what tasks you are doing. I dont think you get an improvement in all types.
And additional 300 MHz is nice.

If he have the money, why not. I always aim high :)

Wait so 750gb is the stock HDD? I thought ROG news stated that G53 comes with 500Gb? Was there some new press release, if so can you link us to it, please. I think its kinda confusing when several retailers list different stock characteristics on the same item.

Exactly. And if, for whatever reason, you would have to send the laptop back this could prove to be a real drain of money as you have to pay it every time (x2 to return it in case of repair, etc).

We don't know if i5 will work or not unless been tested.

G73JH for example, the mainboard for i5 (never been release) and i7 are different.

The asus webcam is great, I use it for logging in, skype and thats pretty much it. You don't need a 720p cam to video chat, especially overseas.... it will be too slow.

If it's anything like the g51-3d version, you can expect to pay atleast $300 more. In my opinion, that money would be better serve if you get a 20-24inch 120HZ 3D supported LCD instead.

I agree, but the idea of having a portable 3d screen to watch bluray movies and games is a god send to me as I travel quite a bit...
Also a bluray reader/writer is something I wanted out of my last laptop.
