Can we just wait until some proper reviewers get some hardware and bench it?

That is cool and sounds like the right thing to do- hopefully other resellers will do the same. :)

There doesnt seem to be any mention of the wireless HDMI or SiBeam on either of the G53 or G73.

Does anybody know if its included?

Also, how many monitors can either of these laptops be hooked up to?

Nay, I contacted Ken and widi will not be offered in these beasts. It was a feature I was looking forward to, but definitely not a dealbreaker by any means. Can always buy a kit later anyways.

    Hello Everybody!

I'm new to the forums, but I've been stalking the thread to keep up to date on the G53. I preordered it last weekend from XoticPC for both business purposes... and fun :p
I'm a little bummed the specs have been dropped to 6gb of ram, though. I've messaged XoticPC and asked them if they, too, would be honoring those of us who preordered when the 8 gigs was default. Hopefully I'll get a good response, otherwise I'm going to consider cancelling and ordering the big brother of this little beast instead. :(
When I ordered, both the JWs were boasting WiDi as a feature, so hopefully this hasn't changed! :D

Well, I think Ken is right on this one. If you check in the specs on the asus website, there's no indcation of widi, and it's something I'd boast about if I were asus. Plus it's not listed in the specs in the websites too.

Ugh - That's disappointing. First 2GB of RAM gets chopped off the list and now WIDI was fictional? /sad panda

The only good news was the 500GB getting bumped to 750GB lol

Bah, the widi woulda cost a bit more anymore. You woulda had to buy a receiver anyways, so I'll just pick up a kit down the line when the bank account gets better.

Agreed. ): It really should have gone the reverse way. They should have aimed low with the specs we were given, then continued to surprise us by ADDING stuff... not taking it away!
I understand that specs change before the release but man... some of us pre-ordered when the specs were high.
Well, despite the false promises, I'm still excited for the release. I'm just... eyeing the new g73 again.

BTW, when I ordered, WiDi was listed as a feature. but I also recall the laptop looking a little different around the webcam area or something. That might just have been me, though. I'm crazy like that, sometimes.

well, from the start, we already knew both wouldn't have Intel WiDi, instead, they were supposed to feature wireless HD via SiBeam, which is like Widi, but not Intel. any confirmations on SiBeam?

Really! We will honor the configuration you ordered. :)

Back to WIDI, as others have stated it is not included. However if some of you haven't seen the end of September the new ASUS WiCast will be available. It is going to be better then WIDI and will support 1080P where WIDI only supported 720P and had a few problems when compared to WiCast. More info here

Attached is chart comparison. $199 is the MSRP

Don't be sad, everybody. How many of us would have used the [widi-ish] feature, anyway?
For the features offered, I still think the G53 is a splendid price. I don't agree with the ram being cut in the final configuration, but other than that, It's still a pretty kickass machine on paper.
Here's to hoping there are no future cuts, and stability reigns supreme when we get our hands on these things.

I woulda used it lots, but it is true that they got so many other stuff, it's not a serious blow. And they now released the official specs, so I'm not predicting anymore specs downgrade. And stability does reign. I never had any problems with nvidia, here's wishing that that legacy continues.

Luckily resellers such as Xotic and GenTech are honouring the 8GB of RAM (for those who preordered it with that listing), which is really nice. I'm not too disappointed anymore.

As for WIDI - 200$ USD, huh? I'll stick to my conventional 14FT Monster cable I bought from ebay for 20$~ +6$ s/h, TYVM lol ;)

Yeah, Despite the ongoing debate on which GPU kicks more butt, I rather prefer Nvidia. ATI always gave me issues, but Nvidia hasn't let me down yet.

The other thing would have been quite useful in my work place (I'm an animator and we're always presenting our stuff, so it would have been a nice addition to the office!) but, again, it isn't a dealbreaker to me.
I just want it to come out already. Oh, the plans I have for you, G53....

Lol, yes, I've got some plans for it too. The G73jw is getting a subwoofer too. Didn't check the G53jw but I'd assume it's geting one too. Good stuff! Plus the sound on It seems to be very decent.

the widi was a dealbreaker. ive previously used a 20 ft vga! that seals it, waiting for sandy bridge and wirelesshd.

question. is the wicast by asus an addon or a builtin feature as it was supposed to be? just kidding, link answered my question. disregard.

I think it will just be a costly add on down the road. They might all be capable out of the box but you would need to buy like a $200 receiver that attaches to your HDTV.

if it is the same thing (which it appears to be), the netgear push2tv is $89. hopefully future and more capable models will debut around that price point because that isn't too bad

    This is disappointing...

Now I feel this is becoming "just another laptop" but with better hardware... I'm definitely waiting till october or nov for the 3d..

Yeah, 8 gigs is nice but if you are primarily using it for gaming, I doubt you'll notice any difference in speed.

Also, Gentech updated my ship date for the G73jw to 9/10. Looks like Asus is actually early this time. Hopefully, the G53 will soon follow.

It is not optional, it is built in on all ASUS G53JW-A1 in the US.

Those are universal worldwide specs. As I said, those coming into the US all have Bluetooth standard.

I would even venture to say it will only be very small markets where it would be optional, if it will actually be optional anywhere.

OK folks, I just got the lowdown from XoticPC. Apparently those of us who pre-ordered prior the 8 gig/6 gig of ram cuts aren't getting honored exactly. You have to choose between 8 gigs of ram and a 500 gig hard drive, or 6 gigs of ram and 750 gig hard drive.
As much of a bummer as this is, I've messaged a service rep about the issue and I'm asking if there is at all a chance that maybe he meant the secondary HDD being 500 gigs instead of 750 gigs... but if it isn't:
Which one would be the best choice? An extra 2 gigs of ram, or an extra 250 gigs of hard drive?
Also: congrats, spdmlt! Your all the more closer to world domination. Er, I mean, getting your game on!

I'd go with the bigger HDD, you won't be able to tell the difference between 6GB's or 8GB's when it comes to gaming anyway.

I think you should look at the Justin's post #1913 on page 192. Justin is the owner of Xoticpc.

PowerNotebooks.com is also honoring all orders placed with 8GB DDR3/1333 memory standard prior to the spec change to 6GB DDR3/1333, as is Ken at GenTech who posted his commitment to do so earlier.

Please be careful about spreading information that is not backed up in writing from an official from the company to which you refer.

I just finished reading the rest of the posts, NO WIDI!!!!!
    *confused*

    NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnnnnnnOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo

Why Asus, WHY, just tell me Why! I would have used that feature tons of times, even if I had to buy a receiver!!

so g73jw as compared to G73JH
    ____________________________
130mhz only more speed(740qm)- upgrade (slightly better)
1333mhz ram - upgrade (with reviews i have searched, this will result in a 1or2 fps gain in games ONLY)
slower 460m video card - Big downgrade (maybe up to 20% in some games, also not sure unless trusty benches come out)
split laptop mouse button - dont care (ok, maybe slightly better)
    usb3 - 1 port only (its alright)

    Things ASUS has taken off:
    ________________________
120hz screen( for 3d enabled laptops only)
    WIDI- (oh sweet sweet WIDI)
    8gb Ram(g53 only)

This is a huge let down asus, The only reason I waited so so long for G73jw instead of G73Jh is the additional features like WIDI > overall this is a GAMING laptop, used for gaming purpose and 3d rendering in almost all cases.
How can you show us all this hope and then finally start taking things down a notch. 460m better be within + or -5% than 5870m difference in most games. Otherwise this JW is a deal breaker and I am dissapoint.

Excuse my language but *** !

Disappointments after dissapointments. What are Asus thinking? The very reason i chose to buy the G53 was because of Widi/Sibeam and 3D. Now that i know that the G53 does not have Widi or Sibeam and that the 3D model will not be available until November, this laptop is nothing but a small addon hardware wise. I mean, come on.
And that new Wicast that sends wireless 1080p, ok sounds terrific only that its another box i have to make room for. 1 by the laptop and 1 near the TV. With Widi you only need a box by the TV. Everything else is IN the laptop.

Thank you God for i havent been able to sell my laptop and preorder the laptop yet.

And thank you for ruining my day Asus. I curse thy name :(

Meh, I'm still getting it. I always knew the 3d version was comin in November, from the beginning it was so. And the 460m isn't that big of a downgrade. It's a technically a downgrade in performance, but by what, 3 fps? It so tiny that you have to look at other factors, other than performance. And sibeam would probably have cost 100 bucks or so, and I'm currently 8 bucks underbudget, so it works put.
