Ugh. I saw it in a report, but I need to pull it up...

I can't get the exact article, but this one gives a rough estimate...

We have tested them on the G73 and it works well so far. I don't foresee any issue with the G53 but we will not know for sure until they come in and test it. We have been testing this since Monday and were the first to bring pictures of this on Wednesday. I personally use Blue on my G73
We plan on selling the modded keyboards soon. If anyone would like it added to their order you can email in the change. It will add a little to the production time but will provide a unique look.
-
Hey Justin,
is it possible to see some of the other colors offered yet? I'm curious about yellow... and rainbow.
For everyone else, have you guys decided to still get the G53, to order something else, or are you all still thinking?
I'm thinking of holding out for the G53 still, (especially since I pre-ordered it) but I'm going to eye the G73 again and see if I can configure one to my liking below $2K. -
Does anyone know when this baby (g53jw) is going to be sold in europe? Has anyone even recieved one in the US and A?
-
Not a single person has one.
GenTechPC can ship to Europe with two separate shipping options so you can get it extremely fast. I think it's 150$ for expedite (which is 2 bus. days?).
If you enjoy going crazy and having your patience tested by Asus, then the G53JW is the laptop for you!
-
I went back and forth for a few days but I have decided to stick it out and wait for the G53JW. I am expecting to be waiting until after October 5th, but this is the machine I have been looking for and settling for a larger machine just to get a system two weeks faster really makes no sense long term.
Besides the future G53 owners might just benefit as the G73s begin to go through the vetting process over the next few weeks. -
This may have already been addressed, but is there any word on how much power the 460m uses compared to the 5870? are we going to be getting better battery life at least?
-
Nope!
The 5870 uses less juice.
Overall I would say battery life is about the same, in any case both suck! -
why do you say that?
-
Think hes refering to the battery life not the card.
-
Does anyone know if Asus sells covers for where the battery goes? Since I leave my laptop plugged in most of the time, I would love to be able to not have my battery in, which would lower the weight and reduce the heat of the laptop. The only concern I have is leaving the battery compartment exposed since I use a laptop cooler, I don't want it blowing a ton of dust in there.
-
I'm not sure if they do, but if they don't, you could buy a 10.1" netbook sleeve and double fold it. Should be 15$~ish on ebay. Make sure to read the battery guide posted somewhere on these forums too (it reviews best room temps, what % is ideal to remove and store it, etc.).
-
Lol...
Yes I was, sorry if I wasn't clear on that but you have to remember this has no OPTIMUS so battery life is bound to be not so good.
Which is to be expected considering the high performance hardware gaming laptops use. -
Just use some duct tape to cover up the battery hole.
-
So is anyone waiting for sandy bridge and Southern Island & hopefully optimus and Widi as well!
It feels to me that by the next time Asus decides to upgrade the G73, we will get specs and features that will ACTUALLY make a difference!
460m is no different from 5870m in my books as all the GSOD issues are fixed now with the latest VBIOS.
This might be one of the biggest decisions in gaming i will make in the near future (atleast 5 years), wait for the next upgrade or buy now! -
AMD confirms new architecture + launch timeframe for HD6xxx
updated link
http://www.techradar.com/news/compu...ics-pre-christmas-717388?src=rss&attr=newsall
Bold/Underline added by a poster at anandtech for emphasis:
"Hoff was also happy to speak about it's upcoming new range of DirectX 11 graphics cards. "It's certainly more than changing a sticker," he said with a grin. "I wouldn't say it's an absolute, complete from the ground up new architecture. I t's a nice, different architecture."
"A one year cadence is about the best you're ever going to see on a new architecture," he continued. "We've got another unbelievable launch, with a wide range of products. That's about the best we could dream of."
He confirmed that it wouldn't just be the high-end card hitting the shelves by Christmas either. It wont be the full lineup, but we will see multiple SKUs of the card with the complete range following very quicky."
This corroborates with AMD's CEO mentioning earlier in the year (on a financial conference call) that AMD would be coming out with new video cards before the end of 2010.
Various sources have claimed an October launch for at least one HD6xxx GPU, including Digitimes (I'd link to the article but it's now behind a paywall).
Now let's just hope they price 'em right! -
Your link is broken!
But if you can wait a few more months or up to the beginning of JAN at CES you might see some SANDY BRIDGE laptops with the new AMD 6000 series GPU's.
Then again this is all just a guess but CES 2011 would be a great spot to announce new hardware. -
I don't think it will be worth the waiting for the new HD6 series and sandy bay.
because then you have to wait for the new top specs to be available, probably extremely high priced. [I mean that it takes a while till you get more options and choices]
performance-wise it might be a 20-30% boost but my prediction is that G53 will still be able to play most of next 2 years games in high to ultra graphics.
I would prefer buying a G53 that can last 2 to 3 years with this spec and then buy the high spec for the next new model.
this is a lot more price efficient in my opinion.
Not to mention for those who are gamers, some games are optimized heavily for Nvidia and I do prefer Nv a lot more. Can't spent too much time waiting for more announcement and wait for release and need to read reviews etc. -
I understand.
But for those than CAN wait it would be wise to wait.
Personally I prefer Nvidia myself but AMD has some really good hardware too. -
It really depends on each though, the best reasons is if you really need it right now, if you current laptop cant do the things you want. But in my case im waiting, i dont feel the current cards are good enough for 1080p, and my current still handles all fine at 720p, im hoping to move up soon, but mostly is the gpu that i want to see a big buff, but i dont have too much hopes up, staying same architecture.
We might see a G54, Asus is known to refresh their line one or twice a year sometimes even more depends mostly on new tech coming like gpu, cpu, and os. One thing that might make upgrade though, is if the optimus reaches high end gpus, i use my laptop for both gaming n working so this could help me out without me searching for a outlet in presentations.
This i do agree, in the past i had a lot of trouble with ATI, but i see really good experiences today, so i might give a second chance. -
Certainly the choice is depend on what kind of users they are.
as for 1080p, I remember an article saying that unless you get onto a monitor, the difference between a 720p and 1080p is barely visible for a laptop sized screen.
I personally believe that unless someone who is like me, constantly moving to different countries, building a desktop is a lot more fun because of the HUGE options, and higher performance and enjoys your big nice huge screens!
(sorry if I upset anyone for saying these...I just feel that gaming laptop is extremely high priced because I have lived with desktop for quite a long time in my home country and I had to buy one because of work related stuff. I just noticed that the tech in laptop gets outdated quite a lot faster than desktop's) -
Were not talking about desktops, yeah they do offer much better performance at cheaper prices but that's a different story alltogether.
-
thats true i was hoping the g53 be more portable
-
If you workout a lot, everything is pretty much portable =)

Does walking to Wendy's to pick up a Baconator count?
I AM getting extra tomatoes ...trying to stay healthy

I work out an hour a day and an 8LBS beast would still feel pretty uncomfortable for long periods of time

AMD to release next-gen graphics pre-Christmas
AMD to release next-gen graphics pre-Christmas | News | TechRadar UK -
There are very special cases where matters, for example, a very popular game right now is SC2, idk why but blizzard dont allow the game to scale with different resolutions, favoring 16:9, like with 16:10 they zoom your FOV, this makes 16:9 more desirable, now in 720p or in my case 1366x768 there is no real option, there is only 1360x768, which you might think its fine, but to me it looks like when you have a LCD displaying not at his native resolution. So i want to move on to 1920x1080 (would prefer 1600x900 as how the current gpu are) but will see upon the first reviews of users.
-
Im excited to see how the new ATI cards do, but I haven't heard or seen anything yet about mobile versions; only desktop specs, previews, and release dates.
-
So does anyone have one of these yet?

negative

Every saturday and sunday the number of posts posted on this thread per day goes down drastically to like 1 per day! It goes up a lot on weekdays!
Conclusion: Sooooo........ work in office much?
-
Some people have better things to do if they know this laptop is not coming soon.No need to speculate over things that we already know.
Once this laptop is out this thread is going to explode! -
So IKAS is this machine next on your list ? With the JW already out in the wild you know how it performs since it will be the same hardware ...
-
ah, so how does GTX 460m next to Mobility 5870 in DX10 and DX11?
-
Lol already answered.u gon have to start ataround post 70.
But to my own conclusion it be close. but cos its a newer card it will perform better than 5870 on certain games and new games but not all even if in reality it is weaker.
Abit like the GTX 260m and 360m GTS -
It might be!
I first want to see if the cooling is as good as it's bigger brother, still waiting on official release date, the longer it goes I might just settle for the G73.
Good thing I'm a patient dude! -
Forgot to ask you QUADZILLA
How's the G73?
Is it everything you expected? -
They are close in performance. On average the Hd5870 wins in DX9 and DX10, but looses in DX11. Sadly, DX11 is not even playable with either card as it is too demanding for our Mobile GPUs.
-
Yeah i am very happy and have no plans of getting rid of this one till Sandy bridge and new GPUs come out ... So overall i am very content.. -
Price?? Which reseller?? Would you recommend it to someone who will play SC2 on ultra, PCSX2, and Dolphin emulators??
TYIA -
I have not run any of the stuff your after on it Yet but overall performance is great and i am speaking about the G73-JW FYI which has the same hardware essentially as the G53....
Gentech is my reseller .. -
Day 21:
Your stealth bomber design is true art,
Why does Asus have to keep us so far apart,
My fingers belong on your illuminated keyboard,
So I can conquer on my Paladin, battle master of the Horde.
G53 WHERE ARE YOU MY LOVE! -
creepy.....
-
I was thinking of ordering from Ken also. Spoke to him a while back regarding the MSI GX640, and he was really pleasant.
Could you please test SC2 on Ultra, and either of those emulators? Thanks.
Write me a song about SC2!
I want reviews and more in depth pictures of the cooling system. Btw, does anyone have any pix of the G73's innards? I've seen it in real life at BB, and the only thing that kept me away at the time was the large size. -
Ken is an awesome guy.
As for the GX640 - It has a trash screen (the GX740 too). I'd recommend staying away from those two systems since the screen will make you want to ebay the entire system. The GX660R is the only good MSI system in my opinion.
Too tired to make a creative SC2 poet/song lol
There's Youtube videos of the G73's insides. I could of sworn there was some G73 pics on these boards, but there's so many G73 threads it would take me 30min+ to find them lol.
You should go for one of the Asus G systems instead of the GX640 since you'd get a better screen, better phone support and better warranty handling. Just to give you a picture of how MSI handles warranties: I had to pay almost 60$ to ship it their repair center and they took 5 weeks to replace a keyboard. Asus may take a while to fix your laptop, but they don't charge shipping fees and I'm sure a measly keyboard wouldn't take over two weeks. -
Dude, thats awesome and very:cry: deep!
-
I appreciate it. G53 sounds like it'd be it, if I'm still willing to spend the cash at that time. Your profile lists the specs--do you own one?
-
Asus while don't charge for shipping, their RMA has gone down hill, very sharply. For keyboard replacement or anything, there is no guarantee. If could be 4 business days. It could be over a month. Seems the average is about 3 weeks since they don't count weekends. Asus RMA can only be described as horrible right now. If MSI is the same, doesn't mean Asus is par for the course, just means both are horrible.
But Gary here on these forums from Asus said they are working to streamline RMA process. Right now it takes Asus 3-4 business days just to assign your notebook to a tech sometimes. It's really pathetic.
Put it this way, there are many people on these forums who have had their G73 in RMA just as long as they have used it. Because it comes back fubar, so they have to send it back and wait another month. Quagmire here had his notebook away for 9 weeks back to back since as soon as he got it back, found out thing was fubar. I sent mine in and it was in RMA for about 5 weeks I believe, some due to shipping my notebook to the wrong address. I paid for overnight shipping and my shipping ended up taking two weeks, go figure. -
I own a spot on the pre-order list, not the actual system yet, since there's still less than a couple weeks until the first wave ships QQ
As for the specs, everything in my sig is correct minus the RAM - You'd be getting 6 instead of 8 (and 2 year global warranty, not 3). It's 1499 @ GenTech atm (-3% if you do wire xfer as payment, I believe).
@Ziddy:
I hope they smarten up b/c alot of us can't afford having a repair cycle take 3 weeks - especially if it's a student (like me) or someone that requires it for business.
Asus should just walk into the HP repair center, which is 30 min away, and replicate it. HP takes 3 business to fix your laptop and it's in your hands by the end of the week (total time: 5 business days). -
Hey guys!
Dilemma. I originally ordered the G53 for business purposes but there has been a change in plans and now the company I'm with will be providing me a machine. This is awesome news, and I've decided to go ahead with my purchase of a laptop anyway, for business during travel/pleasure while at home.
The main reason I wanted the G53 was it was the lighter of the two and thus, more portable. However, if I were to use it for work while traveling... should I invest in a laptop with a bigger screen size? Will going with the G53's big brother be worth it, or do you think that it isn't a substantial difference?
It's been some time since I've owned a real laptop (and not a netbook) so I'm not sure if I'd notice the difference in monitor size and my traveling wouldn't be that frequent so it would usually be hooked up to a monitor at home, any way.
Also, Justin, when can we expect to see the rainbow option for the backlit keyboard in photos?
I want to see it before I send an email asking to add the feature.
Asus G53, the smaller version of the G73jh
