heres to hoping theres no overheating with the 460m in the smaller 15.6 inch chassis

Any updates on this? I actually held out on buying a new desktop with the hopes that G53 will suit my needs (since the E14 appeared to not have been able to).

You think retailers like newegg will get it the 21st? I need it for the 22nd!

I'm almost certain resellers will be getting it before NewEgg/Amazon, etc., considering the pre-orders aren't available everywhere. Resellers like GenTechPC and a few others are the only ones that have it on pre-order that I've seen.

Some have said Mid-Sept, others End of Sept, others Mid-Oct ... :p

The dates are allover the place atm, so if you need a laptop by the 22nd, I recommend sticking around to see if there's updates and then ordering something else at the last minute if things haven't chnged.

Perhaps I'm (literally) playing with fire here but has anybody considered swapping the 460M with a 480M if the temps are low initially for the 460M and the 480M fits?

I'm not but it was just a thought.

Actually I'm still debating getting the ASUS G53jw over the MSI GX660/3 or the Sager NP8690 as replacement for the my faulty Alienware m15x. The thing I'm still hung-up on is the size. Amongst the newer 15' I describe above it's just as wide and deep, but compared to my current 15x which barely fits in my current laptop bag and backup. Bah...I should just a new bag.

The other thing I keep debating is if I'm going to get a new 15' laptop that's 1' larger than my current 15' laptop...why not go an extra 2' and get a G73jw?!

    Online musing.

Does anybody know of laptops from other manufacturers like the MSI and Sager that I mention above that are on going to be approx. on par with the ASUS G53jw in terms of components?

HAHA you are so funny it makes me lol! 480m, even if it was possible.......... lol...LOL! do you have any idea how much it would cost separately? and the TEMPS 480m does 100 TDP. G73 and G53 are only made to handle max 75 TDP (including video card, processor and everything else)

the best laugh all day, thank you

Lol the thing is massive. i got my 15.4 inch hp. the measures are 36cmX26cmX3cm
i assume we know the dimensions of the g51 cos i got one. its around 39cm across and 27cm down and 4cm deep. lol this G53 is slightly bigger but these measures are like of 17" compared to my hp lol MASSIVE. but yea it is a gaming machine with better cooling. but m so glad i didnt want to upgrade to 17" gaming machines. That basically desktop from there.

    So I can't tell...is that a no...

Clearly we all should be taking into account 'TDP'. I mean comon' people.

    T
    D
    P
    !

Think about it. It makes sense.

    TDP.

    (what is TDP?)

    I'm labelling the G53jw as a 17' laptop with a 15' screen.

Not that I care too much. Probably still gonna get it. Most 15' inch laptops coming-out seem to have the same internal components. A little of topic now but my main concern is the chassis design (i.e. will the hinges stand-up to simple opening and closing) and ASUS customer support.

    PLUS 75 TDP AS WELL!

    LOL Cheers!

I knew the 'T' was thermal and it had something to do with an associated ratings system. However that's probably going into a bit too much prediction for me as in the end it either cools the GPU + CPU down or it doesn't.

However I say this whilst I am sitting here trying to record all the latest 15' gaming laptop dimensions for a comparison and even contemplated doing a scale diagram...

I'm going to assume you'd need a better power brick too. Asus is pretty good about sending out a slightly better adapter than you need ... but the jump in TDW...

what signs? Show me evidence, hard evidence instead of just vaguely stating "a lot of signs"...

    show me some links!

sigh........ This has been said many times before, but what the hell is exactly making them drag their feet? is it the chassis itself that has to be manufactured?

because the g73JW is already in people's hand, bc it's the same chassis as the JH version... really, everybody hates being in the dark about this...

a lot of online sellers changed their site to say early october, and even who i ordered it from said on their site late september, but my confirmation phone call confirmed my sneaking suspicion that it was pushed into october, even for them.

    WtH?

ahhhhhh.......... my patience is being severely tested right now...

Nobody got any real insider info on why there is no specific ETA, or why it's delayed? If all the delaying was purely to hype us up, that is a NEW low for any company to do.

Preorder for G73JW just started in my country's (Slovakia) official reseller. It costs 1411€, but... it only has Intel® Core™ i7-720 QM, Microsoft® Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit SK (all other gaming laptops come with Ultimate) & NO backpack or mouse! I think I will buy this in the UK at the end of October... Anyone know the price there?

pretty sure it doesn't come with the mounting bracket if you don't order the second hard drive.

And I certainly hope it doesn't ship as late as October 15th, that's not cool at all. I'm going to see what Asus/the resellers finally predict and if it's too long a wait, I'll just switch to the G73. I don't want to, but I need a machine for work.
Sorry, don't mean to whine, but it's frustrating not having an official date to look forward to.

Netbooks aren't that bad. I'd suggest getting one for light travel purposes when you just don't want to lug around the behemoth that is the G53. :) Just make sure you get one with a wireless card that ISN'T an Atheros. My netbook sucks at doing net stuff.

    Not sure yet.
Going to wait and see how it plays out, wait for some real user reviews.
Performance wise I think the MSI edges it out but I really like the style on the G53.
Still up in the air but I'm leaning towards the ASUS, for now!

Reminds me when I pre-ordered my G51JX-A1....it didn't ship until almost a month after the first announced release date.

I'm resisting jumping and waiting for sandybridge... Its a major internal struggle !!!

The question I really want to know is waiting for sandybridge really going to be worth it?

    I'm exactly the same.

They're both approx. the same size, weight and internals but the MSI 6X660 just looks guady. If you could change the LED colours perhaps I would consider it more...I really don't like the orange.

The MSI 6X660 does appear to have nice speakers though....

After hearing the speakers on the MSI all I can say is they are hands down the best I've ever heard.EVER!
Turning off the lights is simple and from personal experiance the MSI looks much, much better up close than in pictures.
OK now back to the G53.

If only they copied Asus' call centers, repair facilities and warranty coverage ...they would have the potential to be as popular as Asus ...damn MSI! I feel like slapping the MSI CEO b/c he's sitting on a gold mine.

I REALLY like the GX660R but ...^ :p The fan speed and turbo boost buttons are really cool features. I love the light and the AMAZING speakers.

Time to come out of hiding G53JW!

Right now, the G(7/5)3JW and GX660R are kind of like the cars that redesign before everyone else with less important, but still nice features like 2x HDD, USB 3. But the problem with doing so is that they get the newer juicier stuff later (CPU, GPU, Mobo) compared to the other laptops. Currently, the 4xx cards are a disappointment and don't do much justice in upgrading performance compared to the 5xxx. Right now I'm predicting Sager or Alienware will be the quickest to release new SB (20% more powerful clock for clock vs. Core and will have higher clocks) and 6xxx laptops (6750 is supposed to be 15% more powerful than 480).

I just got off the phone with one of the tech reps at xoticpc and they said that even though the G53 comes with two drive bays, if you only order it with one drive you will need to order a drive bracket for the second bay if you want to install a second drive later. They also told me that they don't sell the drvie bracket but that you can order them online at ASUS Online eStore .

The site doesn't have anything for the G53 or the G73JW listed yet, but I'm guessing they'll start having parts show up as soon as the laptops are actually shipping.

Would like to see some links, a 6750 should be mid end, i expect the 6870 to be like 20-30% faster than a GTX480, but AMD should have some cards in between like 6850/6830/6770 before 6750, so idk 15% over the highest gpu with a mid end card seems too good to be true, but dont get me wrong if its is i would welcome it, just find it hard to believe with same architecture.

I want mine in rainbow... but that's because I'm a girl. *-* I'm definitely hoping his testing is done before the G53 is released (aaaand it looks like it just might be -.-) because I'd rather have a colored light as opposed to white! It's easier on the eyes.
I'm trying to research which color light is gentler on the eyes. Any thoughts? I was going to go with blue if I couldn't figure it out, but I'm thinking red might be the best for eye strain.
Anyway, cool feature, Justin! :D Definitely helps to ease the wait for this thing.
