Your eyes deceive you. :p I was asking about a laptop sleeve, not a laptop size! I want to get a nice sleeve but I'm not sure if the G53 will fit in your standard 15.6" case.

I think you should pick 17" sleeves as its only and inch smaller to the G73 :p

    @Voodooi
Nice review/video but a little short :p. Now for Game benchies > :)

    Way to go buddy!

    I love it! looks perfect!

    Shaggymac looks pretty nice...

Can't wait to get it! Ken just confirmed it ships out monday
"Yup it's shipping out Monday my friend no kidding, you better have your games ready to install when the laptop arrives. hahaha." :D !!

I have 3 Essays next WEEK!!! I dunno how I will cope with all the excitement.

    +1
Hahaha I know, like anyone here isn't planning on buying it!

Maybe because you still have the plastic cover on it?!! Look at your video!

Also... is the 3d IR emitter beside the camera? or is that only in the 3D version?

OMG Voodooi, that review was way more reassuring than others. (no offense towards the resellers or anything, your reviews were quite exciting.) I think it's because we've gotten to know your web persona in these past 2 months. Which reminds me, if you got Steam, I need to get your user name! :D
Man, I know I say this practically EVERY page, but... I can't wait! Diggin' the photos, too, fella. Seriously, awesome. I wonder what my chances are of getting mine by the end of next week...

I use the same name for practically every game :) So It's Voodooi for steam, battlefield, and Blizzard games. You should get yours real soon since you ordered like 3(?) days after me :) :) :)

    @Metallic
Ya, I skipped out on my homework all weekend (rofl) thanks to the G53. I'm going to be swamped with essays all week.

    @dookie11

All of you are going to love me for this (especially voodooi) I did a little digging and found a perfect solution for a cover skin.
CLEAR VINYL Roll Sheet Kit Adhesive PAINT PROTECTION: eBay Motors (item 180293665740 end time Nov-14-10 22:01:02 PST)
It's clear vinyl, it's made to protect the paint on a car, which is pretty much the same stuff as the skins from invisible shield and bodyguardz. Comes in 24"x w/e size you want. I just bought some so as soon as it ships to me, i'll do a little testing on some smooth plastic.

lol i doubt anything will go wrong, i mean the description of this thing says, "use it on your car, cellphone, laptop, etc." The only difficult part would be to measure out those angles of the cover, i want it all covered, not just the flat part on top. Shouldn't be impossible though, i'm an architect after all.

The only problem is that it's 15ft by 25'' or 15'' so you're gana need to have 2 runs of the vinly so you can cover the back completely... but very nice find non the less.

It seems you can also get sample
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VINY...rQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_4891wt_841

But I can't see that you can get a Clear Sample...

I'm sold then... I just bought them... I think 3ft is enough room for error

I got a bunch of things to review along the laptop now....

Actually, cheaper at my local store:

$1538 CAN ($1510 US) at NCIX and I get to pick it up locally so I don't need to pay for any shipping. Anyways... I still have to pay that 12% HST tax whether it is from US (shipper charges HST) or Canada so really no point of ordering from US - and in BC tax applies to shipping as well. If I live in Alberta then I would definitely order from the US since there is no tax.

Btw, if you are actually going to add a piece of ram to the 4th slot, will you run the risk of voiding the warranty? And does g53 comes with the 4th slot actually pre-occupied with a 2GB ram?

What's normal temps for a laptop cpu and gpu? i heard the gpu goes to 90 for the g53 running furmark, but the odd part is that my dell inspiron 1520 with 8600m gt only goes up to 68, i repasted but that shouldn't make that much difference

    1499$ USD - 3% E-Check Discount = 1455$ USD + 50$ USD S/H = 1505$ USD = 1529$ CDN.

Exchange rate is 2% now. Last week it was on par :(

NCIX model has 6GB of RAM. Resellers (not sure if everyone is doing it) such as GenTech is giving a free upgrade to 8GB of RAM:
    6GB DDR3 1333 (2G X 3)
    8GB DDR3 1333 (2G X 4) : $0, Free Upgrade!

Agreed. Especially when some of the students are in IT program - and I just can't afford to bring a laptop full of unnecessary decorations to show in front of possible clients and future employe rs when I am showing them my portfolio.

Yeah netbooks are pretty terrible even for web browsing... at least for me...

I have 20 tabs open 90% (there is that 90% again) of the time... Netbooks can't handle crap with their "1GB ram for FAST multitasking"

I was actually planning on buying a netbook because of the absent hdd bracket fiasco...

but I started looking at netbooks and realized "What am I thinking... I could have a super computer and I'm looking at these" because all the sales men (and 1 woman) came to me and tell me "yeah it's a great price for students" I'm like "I'm not poor I just need something quick!"

So I ended up finding Ken from Gentech Pc and told me "It's ready to ship with 2 hard drives :)"

Actually a friend of mine wanted a mac book pro, but ended up getting a mac mini and a 64gb ipad... I like the idea of diversity and having an "always at home" computer... but I need a full fledged laptop with a keyboard.

Hahahaha I just saw the post!

Yeah I gata be honest, I hate imperial and Fahrenheit! Just too many numbers... Metric and Celsius use much smaller numbers.

Agreed, I sit in a room full of engineers, as much as they like my G50 (it kills their puny HPs and Toshiba's despite its age) they say it might be a little too "flashy" with the lighting and the lights on the back.
So I think this one is pretty ideal for many uses.

But when the generator goes out, mine is the first to go :)

Someone made a mistake with the referral URL so its displaying the Amazon Mobile web interface. Try a link like this instead...

Amazon.com: ASUS G53JW-3DE Republic of Gamers 3D 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop - Black: Computer & Accessories: Reviews, Prices & more

That should take you directly to the detail page appropriate for whatever device you are on. (And without any associated referrals)

    - Eric (Your friendly Amazon development manager whose views do not necessarily represent those of the company. YMMV. Any similarity between people actual or imaginary are simply a coincidence, etc, etc.)

msdnaa -> Microsoft will give out free copies to students in some qualified programs.

On the other hand, some friend of my told me that HP laptops are the best and tried to get me to buy one of those HP Envy. I told him this g53 will literally wipe the floor with any laptop HP throws at it and he is still not convinced.

Not sure if you can ask though. Usually your program tells you that you are eligible for download because it is a collaboration between Microsoft and the said institution. And if the school takes the offer, then every student in that program will have to sign a ToA. Usually, Microsoft only offers this to IT students, but I think you can get the benefit if you apply to at least 1 computer class course - check with your university to see if they have MSDNAA.

Usually, the ToA says something like this:
The software is granted to you for educational use... then if you graduate then it becomes a life-time license (legit CD-key). etc etc.

For me, I got windows xp, vista, 7, and pretty much every single line of Microsoft products they have in store - 1 copy each.

To bad, there is no Adobe software, otherwise I get all the money back from my tuition by getting free Adobe stuff.

So when will the second shipment of g53 be available in the US?

My uni got it... but we were never told about this... so I doubt I'll be eligible. I got the 30$ pre-order upgrade when it was offered by MS.

I can save all the headache (and 60$) by giving my self another headache by re-installing home back to my G50 and use its Pro upgrade on my G53...

The second shipment should be here next week (what I hear from Ken at Gentech)

Soo does anyone have temps comparing the G53JW and the G73JW? Im kinda stuck between the two. If the G53 has similar temps to the G73 i might just pick the G53 over the G73 and save the $200 dollars if temps are similar.

Well yeah, if you go solely by specs, but considering the number of problems other asus laptops have had...I dunno... I'm still trying to decide which laptop to get myself (Been waiting for the 53 for such a long time), but I find myself eyeing up the Envy line because of superior build quality and, seemingly, higher reliability than other ASUS. I'm gonna wait a few more weeks to see how everyone's 53's work out for them before pulling the trigger.

g73jw pretty much runs cooler, the g53 can reach as high as 90C as demonstrated in the review videos while the g73 stays around 78-79C.
