Trust me, you're not CPU limited with this laptop. I've got my Core i5 430m to 3.2 Ghz and the laptop is DEFINITELY GPU limited. Even on games like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood which are heavily CPU limited, the GPU still seems to be the biggest determining factor.

Get an SSD. That will make you much happier than a new CPU. The load times (or lack thereof) and huge speed boost it gives to your computing experience is worth it. The CPU will only disappoint you and waste your money.

The paid version of SetFSB. Overclocking does have some issues though, it affects game timing for me (sometimes).

ok for the paid version of fsb do u think bumping it up say 400mhz is better then buyin new chip, cause 2.26 is kinda slow, you were saying 3.2, i understand that fast, how about 3.0, that's plenty, like few hundred more, id rather overclock a lil and see then $300 for new chip :) wht do you think, also can u tell me the right setting for fsb there a drop down menu and i dont know wht one is right, i dont want to mess it up , thx again for all your help buddy :)

You need the paid version, and then the creator sends you the correct settings for the G60JX. It's relatively easy to overclock, but don't forget that TurboBoost will also be increased: if I overclock from 2.26 Ghz to say 2.5 Ghz, TurboBoost kicks it up to 2.8~ Ghz on certain apps, which is plenty. The max overclock I've gotten with TurboBoost is about 3.25 Ghz, after that it locks up.

Only thing that sucks is that after a certain point of increasing the FSB, it starts affecting games and making them run 'too fast' (the timing is off). I posted a thread about this a couple of days ago in this forum.

awesome info, ya u said the 2.5 then turbo is 2.8, im hoping for the setting that takes the max to 3.0 and im good there that half way to the new processor, i think at that point the difference would be so lil i would stay with the i5-430 i got now, thx for your help i think you saved me $300 buddy thx again :)

Figured I would chime in again here!
Had this laptop for a solid year..not a SINGLE issue with it.
Anyone done any upgrades to theirs? not exactly sure what I could upgrade other than the proc/mem? but it is what it is!

I forgot this system existed, but dang, this is still really nice hardware!

I'd assume that GPU should outperform the current Direct X 11 parts with the same number of cores, PLUS no Floptimus that's used on today's mid range systems

Hey guys have had this laptop for a year no major issues. In the past three months though every time i play steam games or leagues of legends it crashes in the middle of the game. The screen freezes and the laptop makes an annoying sound. This can happen 5 minutes in the game or after a few hours. I have the latest drivers for everything. I have no idea what is wrong. For heating issues only one core foes close to 80, I think its core 2. Has anyone else had any issues like this, please help. I have not updated the bios yet and was thinking of re installing windows again to see if it helps.

I'd get the BIOS updated, run Memtest on it overnight, etc.... but I'd suspect a hardware issue, though hopefully not.

I heard bios 208 had issues. Is this true because this is the newest I found. I can also get an older one like 207. The one I have in is 203 the original that came with the laptop when I got it at bast buy.

    Its pretty good man,
However the resolution might and graphics kill it for. But if your regular gamer(not enthusiast) It will do you fine :)

my G60JX runs with heat everyday. already re-paste the CPU, GPU, and dust off. still overheat on a room with air condition on.

Room Temp: 21C (according to remote control)
    Idle Temp: lowest: 48C
Work Temp (browsing and so on): 70C
full load (skyrim: High Setting: 6 Hours of gaming):105C

    strange:
after I re-paste GPU and CPU. i made some test. without power adapter plugin. the temp is in 63C. i test it with Skyrim, tombraider, no Aircond runing.
Does the power adapter is the main cause of the heating problem?

gonna make some holes below on the back cover, some body have reference?
*if the temp wont go down, i must sell it, and change to desktop again...
