My local best buy still has the g60jx listed for $899. Is there any chance that the price will be lower upon checkout since its an outlet item?

Check with the store manager and explain him that its an outlet item on the bestbuy website, he should give you that price, but you never know until you try.

My local Best Buy didn't list the outlet price either last week when I bought mine. I just asked the sales guy about the outlet price and he checked it on their website and since they list it at that price they will sell it to you at that price. But if you do not say anything they will try to sell you it for 899$

Went to my local Best Buy and they were out of the laptop, so they called up the next closest one and it turned out they had 1 left. Went over there and told them about the outlet pricing on their website and I got the $50 off.

    Great day!

Nice! Now just unbox and uninstall all the bloatware and then run a good defrag for good measure and you'll be golden!

Hope you enjoy your new G60JX, I know I love mine.

I'm just curious, what kind of cooling solution do you all use? I've been through about 3 or 4 different cooling mats/pads/stations and have yet to find one that does a good job or isn't a total piece of crap.

I don't use anything besides a lap table, I did however apply AC5 and my temps dropped by a couple degrees.

I straight up LOL'd on this in the middle of my office!! That has to be the funniest stuff I've read in a minute. He can't be serious and I'm sure he's doing this for laughs!

Even if he was serious, please don't put electronics over an A/C vent or port the air from one to them, A/C blows moisture with that cold air! It can also cause condensation from rapid temperature change and that = bad as well! I'll be "lol" for a while on the box fan though, that's good! :D

Hey guys, what video drivers are you guys using for your gts 360m. I'm currently using 257.21 but I keep having issues every once in a while where the driver will crash and then i'll get a message saying that it was recovered. I was thinking about going back to the ASUS supplied driver but I don't want to go back that far.

Any suggestions on which version is the best?

While i don't have a 360m, most of the MS update drivers have worked well on Asus gpus, i would suggest to check 198.05 (link on my sig) see how it works for you, for me its doing fine, no issues at all, good image quality and great performer, and should support the 360m.

So i have one question regarding this laptop... I'm planing to buy refurbished one but I saw someone when I asked if I can swap i5 430 for i7 for example, he told me that maybe i can't because of this BB that's in the name of laptop (parts I think)

    ASUS G60JX RBBX05

So is it true that i cant change graphic card or processor in future or i can :)?

And does anyone have experience with refurbished ones?

That's true of essentially ALL notebooks. There are some where you can upgrade to another model card that was offered for the same system, but that begs the question why you didn't get the better card to begin with (which would be cheaper).

I"ve got a question...does anyone know how, with the battery saving preset, to NOT have windows auto-hide the taskbar? I know how to disable it through the taskbar properties, but every time i switch back to plugged in and then go back to battery saving mode, it resets.

I feel dumb, but off hand I don't know how to make it do what you're describing. The only place I know of to change that setting is just in the menu off the task bar, and it's just an on/off setting that's not associated with any power profiles or anything.

Some third party software could theoretically be setting it, or maybe there's some obscure switch in the registry or admin tools or something that can do that, but otherwise it doesn't seem like it should do that :-/

On that set of light up buttons on the top-middle of the keyboard, when unplugged, you can use them to change to different modes, such as "high performance", "battery saving", etc. When it changes to battery saving, it's great b/c you can get over 2 hours with the battery without much of a hit to performance. The only problem is that it changes the setting of "auto-hide the taskbar".

I'm surprised this sold out in June and hasn't been replaced. Best Buy doesn't really have a sub-$1300 model now. Of course prior to a year or two ago the idea of a sub $1300 notebook that played games well was ridiculous, but still :-D

My guess is we will see a G53 version for bestbuy after the resellers are supplied with the A1 model, maybe couple of months.

I noticed my refurbished ASUS G60JX last night while playing games like COD2, GTA4, Assasin creed 2, Superbike X with max setting the game can have with AA on and so on.

The laptop while full load (5 hours gaming), no air conditioner room, the laptop reach 92 degrees Celsius maximum (full load) and 42 degrees (windows boot but not sure) for VGA on performance mode is that normal?

the laptop gets warm on left side wrist pad while playing...i wonder where is the hard drive might be?

Sorry for double posting, but to you guys that own a g60jx: which laptop cooler do you use?

I bought a cooler for my g51vx when I had it, and the cooler did not really help with the temperatures.. I just found it to be a strain on my hands since they were always at an awkward angle with the keyboard.

You can see my temps with /without the cooler on my review (link below).

I'm planning on buying this laptop refurbished from Newegg, but does anyone have a clue as to if this computer would overheat if I were to output its display to a 1920x1080 monitor?

How would it be for gaming at this resolution?

    Thanks.

    Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone had the same issue as me. Bought the G60JX off of Newegg, and the first laptop and the one they replaced it with have the same problems. I've searched forums, but haven't found the answer.

Whenever my graphics card gets a minimal amount of load (say, aero doing a few graphical things, or on the splash screen of America's Army 3) the laptop alternates between AC and battery power, and also causes the screen to flicker (from the mode change I imagine). I've updated BIOS to 208, and am using the latest stable Nvidia Reference driver, but that didn't help. Using a Rosewill 20mm fan cooling stand to keep this baby cool, but I don't think it's a heat issue, as the card starts causing this problem the moment even the slightest load is placed on it.

I'm hoping this is an easy fix. I like this laptop, but not if I'm going to have these kind of problems with it. If this continues, I'll have to eat the restocking fee and send it back.

That's exactly what I do, and it doesn't get much hotter than normal. It runs like a champ (starcraft 2, as an example). I'm still looking for a cooling solution that actually makes a difference, but haven't had any luck. As of now, i have it sitting on a deck of cards to elevate it, and it doesn't get nearly as warm.

Borderlands was the other one that I played at that resolution. Still hung up on Starcraft 2, so that's where most of my gaming time has gone on this laptop.

G60JX-RBBX05 is the same thing damn near except for the ram slots and no second harddrive plus bluetooth, and yes putting in an i7 into it would work great people have done it.

From what i remember, i think you can go even into quads with the G60JX (i think there were some in here in their sig with i7 820qm, but cross check it). Now upgrading the cpu might become expensive though, not sure if its worth it.

The i5-430m is a good CPU, you wont really see any huge or maybe even noticable speed increase from putting in a faster CPU. Now if you're still stuck on doing it like I was go into a CPU upgrade on the G60JX knowing you wont see a huge performance increase otherwise you'll just be disapointed. On that note pretty much any i5 duals or almost any i7 dual or quad should work in the G60JX, remember that you'll be adding in 10w more heat if you go to a i7 quad though.

I would recomened doing a SSD before doing a CPU upgrade though. You'll be paying about the same if not less for the SSD and you'll have a marked increase in startup and loading times.

OK i think im going to go with the i7-720qm it should be much faster on desktop and gaming should improve as well, here are my thoughts, i always heard that the lower you go in resolution the more it kinda takes the graphics to the CPU, or better yet is more likely to get limited there, since this lappy is 1366x768 i still don't think this thing is being stopped by the graphics, i think with a CPU that at least 400mhz faster in game you'll see a dif, also when ever ive gone to those site that say how will my computer do on this game such and such the games i get a lil lag on like blackops for instance, tell me my CPU is to slow. So i honestly don't want to build a home PC right now with economy and all and only other route is Xbox for future proofing, should i just get the quad and se like 20 percent boost and be happy or go Xbox? also 1 you guys mentioned solid state i want this to but i wont see fps increase there will i? thanks in advance guys :)

also i was lookin at the i5-580m will this one work and do u think it will do better then the 720qm cause it benches better to
