Thanks dude. I'm gonna try it this weekend and I'll let you know the outcome![]()
I always use the alias "Bunny" when playing online games. lol I always play using a dumb name because I don't want to take myself too seriously. When people hear a guy over the mic with a deep voice and his name is Bunny... it's just funny.![]()
Oh and here's our clan website that's almost 100% inactive. Pags' forum profile: http://alliedarmy.com/modules.php?name=Profile&mode=viewprofile&u=44

So sounds like the 9th or 10th of July we will see the BIOS? I hope to see some ACTUAL temps then on the G71, to see where it maxes out.
-
I'm on my way to purchase my G71 to hopefully have it all set up by the time the new BIOS comes out. Any suggetions for removing unnecessary programs and optimizing performance aside from this underclocking issue?
-
Cool, looks like, so long as ASUS follows through, the machine will be rock solid.
Just curios though... just get used to the double typing, maybe it'll increase your WPM...
I haven't done any overclocking just yet, and to be frank... is there really a need to at the moment? I mean without overclocking it can pretty much run any uber high-end game out there without blinking an eye. -
So Kip you don't have any overheating issues at all?

How the heck is the Quad G71VX getting better reviews than the Core 2 Duo G71VX?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9382553&type=product&id=1218095770874
Does the 260M GTX 81+ degree bug/ 2 hour bug not occur in the Quad G71VX?
Some one explain or did these people who reviewed it could be Asus employees or haven't reached the problem yet (ie these 2 people posted the review before the problem occurs or they only play solitaire on the machine...)? -
I got mine from BB 2 days ago. Tired of waiting on fix so I made a temp one. Have to leave work so only tested for a little while. Over one hour up to 84 and 85 without stopping. I got a copy of the bios for the clevo 260m 1 gig and matched the voltage tables. Look up how to flash. I am using a usb drive and nvflash for dos. Google how to make a boot key. I can tweak some more settings but need to head home. Will do more tests in a couple of hours. Also, I have 2 tickets open with ASUS on this. Good gaming guys until they fix it. Use at own risk although I think its not that risky.
Well it has finally crashed on me. Gonna try some different tweaks. Didnt have much time. Try if u want, but not a perm fix. Maybe an improvement. I will let you know. If anyone else has more knowledge with editing these bioses, let me know and I will post the ones I have.Attached Files:

CNET reviewed the G71GX-RX05 today... sort of
http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/asus-g71gx-rx05/4505-3121_7-33695862.html -
Thanks for the review link.
"Otherwise, though, the G71GX-RX05 is a solid, if not perfect, low-end gaming portable."
Low-end? -
Well, I think. Or they just consider everything below the newest Alienware "low-end". -
And
" While graphics and processor performance from the Asus G71GX-RX05 showed promise in our initial testing, we are not reporting results for this system yet. A known BIOS issue causes the Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M to stop performing normally when it reaches an operating temperature of about 81 degrees Celsius. Asus is working on a fix that will be available on or about July 9. At that time we will test the new BIOS and revise this review with results and ratings."
If you check all the new Asus (G71DX and G51VX) laptop CNET reviews, ALL of them have this comment...
They ran into the same issue we all know very well about! No full review until later...
Oh and Dan Ackerman from CNET has mentioned (via a email I got from him) that he has already spoken to Asus about this problem and WILL NOT do a full review until it is fixed. This is most likely the reason Asus jumped on the problem right away... -

So what dose everyone think of the Doors for USB and such? Sounds like a dumb idea to me is it really annoying?
-
But not so piratical when you actually have things plugged into it.
Plus, I have like no finger nails, so it's really difficult for me to open them up, haha.
Not a dealbreaker by any means though. -
^ Wait, they open out? I figured you pushed it with your usb and it flipped up into the laptop. It does look incredibly better though with nothing in it. I dont think it will be too bad as long as you have a usb hub (which anyone should have anyways).

I know Kipker posted a pretty good cooler but I was hoping for another suggestion. I currently have the belkin single fan cooler with the curved design to allow for better air flow and it seems to be keeping my laptop very cool. Ony problem is that it's small and made for 15 inch laptops so about half of the laptop is leaning off the sides and it's not very stable. I wish belkin made a bigger model. Suggestions?
-
^ well, its not a cooler but this is what I used with the gateway which stayed cool with crysis.

The laptop stays in the air and all the bottom vents had plenty of space. Not sure if its enough for the g71 though since it only has one fan... -
So... Does anyone know which HDMI version the G71GX actually comes with... I forgot to check when I bought mine.
-
I'd recommend the NZXT Cryo. You can get it from a number of vendors e.g. Newegg or Amazon
Black (17")

Silver (17")

The cryo seems like an awesome cooler however people said the edges are very sharp which would make it uncomfortable to place on your lap. I plan on mainly playing while in bed so that's kind of a big deal for me. Thanks for the suggestion though!
-
I also heard that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834998686 is good also.
-
i cannot wait until this issue is fixed. that A1 will be MINE!

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=383414 -
I wonder how easy it will be to make the update on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being easiest), i.e. buy now (bird in hand) or wait (two in the bush). -
Personally I'm going to wait until everyone buys it and mess around with it a little bit. I was one of the first one to buy it before it official release date and was very disappointed by it. So, I'm not jumping the boat this time. By the way does anyone know which HDMI version this has?
-
Two in the bush for sure, if you havent already purchased your better off waiting now . Better off at this point letting others that have the machine let you know for certain the issue has been addressed as it should have been.
-
Ok beside the GPU throttle down (not a small issue) what was so disappointing about the G71?
I mean outside the anticipated fix for that I do not see anything else in the near future changing, so if it was resolution, sound, keyboard, fit or form its not gunna change the experience.
I know that when one thing goes wrong it can sour the entire experience. -
The machine was great overall , the keyboard was a bit janky like Cnet reported in the review/preview and beyond that i thought the screen was actually decent and had much better viewing angles then Cnet spoke about .
-
The thing was great, but I returned it because of the GPU throttle. And by being the first one to get it with Quadzilla I personally didn't know when it will be fixed. And didn't wanted to risk it.
-
What's the best way to overclock the RX05? Just by using TurboGear??
-
Hey guys, planning on buying this laptop after the fix on/around June 9th, but just a minor question - Does this thing have the multitouch like the other ASUS net/notebooks? I noticed there wasn't a scrolling portion on the side of the touchpad so I just assumed, though when I tried to use it, I wasn't able to get it to work (while I was playing around with it at Best Buy).
-
Turbo Gear seems good enough for most people. 15% makes it pretty much a 2.9ghz.
Most laptop seems to carry it around these days. I'm sure it will have it, but I'm not sure. I was to busy getting angry at the laptop more than anything. -
-
I just bought the G71 an hour ago - brought it home and went online to search for accessories - and found this forum and thread.
I called Asus Notebook Tech Support to find out if I would have to return my G71 before I even unboxed it. Good news: Asus US advises they have the BIOS fix in testing today and it looks like it will correct the issue. The TS representative said the fix should be posted on the Asus download site first thing on Saturday morning. -
-
-
Saturday morning?! Really that quick?!?!?!?!?
-
I just hope the BIOS fix is easy to install?? The ASUS US tech support rep said he would walk me through the fix on Saturday.
I've never had to download a BIOS fix before, especially on a brand-new notebook, right out of the box. I am retiring an ancient Dell and I was thrilled to buy the G71 today. Here's hoping we get the fix soon and it works -
Guys how much does a Q9100 cost, that is not a ES. And how much do you think it will cost 2 years from now. Also how hard is it to upgrade the screen, and how much does it cost for something like 1080p or 1200p?
-
-
The screen i was actually looking at for the G71 was this one as its the brightest one around .
http://www.smartmicrousa.com/LP171WU1_TLA5_LCD_SCREEN.aspx
Only thing im not certain of is if there a little brackets that will need to be removed from it or not , there basically tiny little rivets that need to be popped off but other then that it should pop right in and should be one of if not the best screen around for it . -
Well im posting from my new G71 ^_^ LOVE it still cleanin all the bloatware off it! I baught a 2 year warrenty too! Hope the fix works will be watching here for a link to it.
Also how do u make the blue light bars stop fricken flashing!!!? They r really annoying i want them just to be lit up solid. -

Wow, so much for all the hysterical, hyperbole laden knee-jerking that was going on earlier this week. -
.
-
So yeah, multitouch gestures for the G71, anyone? Yay or nay?
(Yenno, for scrolling and zooming.) -
yeah um not so much. No two finger scrolling or zooming, if that was what you were talking about.
