hmm I can't seem to get the toshiba hd I got from my hp dv6000 to fit into that. How would I go about doing it?
-
But in fact, a lot of manufacturers suck in regards to this or, they allow Nvidia drivers to be downloaded but apparently Asus needs to have their own modified ones because I couldn't install the latest Nvidia drivers.
-
does this driver overclock the 260gtx? (or bring it to 100%?) also, does it have every function and work as well with hdmi as nvidias?
-
does the ASUS G71 BB Version have a physics accelerator?
-
-
psyx software is performed by ur cpu and gpu in the absence of a dedicated physics processor i believe.
also, in a positive note. I ran thru the benchmark for crysis on my g71gx and was pleasantly surprised.
1440x900 native res
everything on high except textures and water on very high
no aa
turbogear overclocked by 10%
averaged 29fps in the gpu test
averaged 28fps in the cpu test -
I think I'll try furmark to see unless there is something else that gets the GPU above 82. (First time I hit 82.. thought I was fine with BIOS update so never bothered to test yet).
EDIT: Ran furmark and got to 88C... no idea why I lagged to 1 FPS first time around... hope it doesn't happen again. -

As for the "Physics Accelerator" the GPU has CUDA upon which PhysX can be accelerated. Being proprietary PhysX acceleration on gpu is only supported by nvidia gpu's (of which only the ones with Cuda, 8 series and above).
PhysX itself is just an SDK and can be run on the cpu by a game. The CUDA setup allows for General Purpose calculations to take place on the GPU, PhysX can be accelerated by running it on the gpu using the cuda framework.
Not all games that use PhysX support gpu acceleration and note that games in the future that decide to us OpenCL can accelerate physics calculations using ATi or Nvidia GPU's that support general purpose calculations on GPU of which i think all of nvidia's current and most if not all new ati cards do.
In the current situation a game that uses PhysX and can support GPU Acceleration must have the PhysX framework installed and enabled in order todo so. -
Should I be worried that the left button on my touchpad sometimes locks on things? As if I were doing a dragging motion? So far it hasn't caused much issues but I can see how this can get annoying. Should I take it back? I'm only hesitant because I already installed so much stuff on it but if you guys think it's defective I guess it won't be too big of a deal.
I mean, does anybody else's G71 do it as well? -
^ probably is an option. you should be able to change different options on the touch pad like soft click (left click by taping pad). if not, i'd reinstall the touchpad driver first.
-
Oh no I meant without actually clicking anything first. For example, I would just be moving the mouse/cursor around without touching any of the buttons, and all of the sudden I'd be highlighting things without clicking the left button first. Doesn't that sound more like a hardware problem than a software problem?
Anybody else having this issue? -
-
-
Oh alright. That makes sense I guess. Like I mentioned before even though this isn't the most expensive laptop, it's still a big investment for me so I'm just trying to be careful. Especially since the exchange/return guarantee is just only 14 days now, instead of 30. But thanks Flaring Afro.

Vanilla = naked = no mods = freshly installed = fresh out of box.

Same here I was told to reinstall the drivers

It only happened to me once and it was the first time I cracked 80. About 7-8 times after cracking 80C I was fine. Maybe it just needs to be deflowered, in a sense.

Plus it literally walks you through the whole modding process with an installation program (don't worry, it's been checked).
http://www.incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=382690#p382690
CUDAATS website even shows you the differences between [Vanilla/Stock] Very High and CUDAATS, and the winner in the graphics department/upgrade is CUDAATS. CUDAATS looks better and plays better than Very High, NO ONE should play without it.

thank you for the post da1writer. when i invest in the full version of crysis i'll definitely be using that mod. also, on those dox drivers. where do you get them and how do you install them? and do you think future nvidia drivers will be supported ever?
-
On another note, does anyone know where the proof of purchase on the box is? Need to scan it or mail it in for the windows7 upgrade but so many freaking barcodes on this thing.
Thanks for the CUDA tip dawriter. I'll definitely test it out. By the way, what is TOD? -
Get the latest DOX drivers here:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=122
Uninstall current video drivers. Reboot to safe mode, use driver sweeper to clean all nvidia content. Reboot, install DOX drivers and reboot again and you're done!
I think Asus in the future will put up new drivers but who knows when. Can't use Nvidia's... Asus needs to have their own customized apparently... -
-
Overall, imagine a game like GTAIV with it's recent patches, the mod actually OPTIMIZES the code so it runs better/faster while giving you a better overall look (ie better graphics.) If you don't like it, the CUDAATS installation program can uninstall it as well...
My advice would be to try the mod out first before you squash it/bring judgement on it. I'm telling you though, of all the people who tried it, they kept the mod - that thread is packed with thanks and people really enjoying the mod. Oh, an it's well known on Youtube, check out some of the vids (it might also be known as CCC Crysis)... -
The OP guy was banned. Is he still updating it?

So wait, is it normal that I only started out with 454GB instead of 500GB as advertised? Is it because of Vista that it took up 46GB away from the 500GB? After the bloatware plus installing 4 games, I'm already down to 390GB, which I find odd.
PS, Thanks for those who helped me with the mouse thing. I didn't know that tap feature existed. After I found out it was like, oh, this is awesome. Forget the multitouch the other ASUS notebooks have. -

1.) No HDD gives you the full amount advertised, the larger the drive the more you lose form its normal formatting.
2.) Most Asus computers have a hidden recovery partition that takes up like 10GB or so, letting you quickly recover your computer to a fresh install status without the recovery disk. -
Oh alright, just making sure. Thanks for the quick response. Awesome avatar btw.

ok so a bit confused... we have to OC this thing for the ram reach to 800 MHZ?
And in regard to proof of purchase for the upgrade.. I understand its just a copy of the receipt and the print out you from the Asus website, you then have to fax them both to the number on the print out from Asus. -
-
CUDAATS isn't even working for me... I hear the game going through the motions but it's a black screen. Do I need UAC off all the time? I even tried UAC but got the same thing.

Any notification from people who pre-ordered this system from gentech or another online site that their laptops have shipped?
-
-sigh-
There better not be another delay from ASUS; I can't afford to wait another two and a half weeks. -
Is the two grand really worth it for the g71 from Gentech? Why not the w90? is that not similar in price?
-
http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np5797-custom-notebook-built-clevo-m570etu-p-2540.html?wconfigure=yes
If you want to spend 2 grand on the Sager 5797, just add the OS first (which includes a Free Windows 7 voucher) and then up the ram to 4GB (from 2GB). It will smoke the Asus G71 on Gentech anyday of the week.
The Asus G71GX-RX05 are for those that want the best bang for your buck laptop. The Asus G71GX-A1 is a rip off (in my opinion) and if your willing to spend that much, just go for a Sager (you could go almost ALL out on a Sager 8662 and almost hit 2gs)... -
^ the alienware at best buy is probably better than the sager though. 2 x 260 > 1 x 280

Wait... this is an asus thread, gotta get back on topic!

Has anyone tried enough notebook coolers to recommend one? I was looking at the ZALMAN ZM-NC2000 and the Thermaltake model with the large fan. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Hmmm...
Someone may have already posted this, but I installed the DOX 185.85, then installed Nvidia Ntune (as a standalone S/W).
This gave me a blue screen when I entered the GPU Overclock mode.
So then I uninstalled Ntune and installed Nvidia System Tools (80mb file).
GPU Overclock works now, and I overclocked the GPU to 550/1375/1800 (<- oops this must be a typo.).
Oc'ed CPU to 15% and got 10900 on 3Dmark06.
Played crysis for 30 minuites then the GPU clock was automatically changed back to stock.
How can I keep the GPU clock up?
Should I make an overclock profile to run automatically when I play games?
Anyone familiar with using Nvidia System Tools?
PS. Just got my G71 on Saturday.
Probably the first user in South Korea. lol -
