    Hi to all!
I am owner of Asus G72GX-RBBX05. Since I purchased it from BB, I am very curious about temperature issues. My laptop on stock clocks have Idle temps CPU 38C GPU 60C with room temp 21-22C. Under full load CPU 57C GPU 86C. When room temp goes to 27-28C GPU could get hotter under load till 89C.
So, If you could post some temps of yours laptops with stock coolling and frequencies it will be great(if you have some temps overclocked it will be great too). I was looking through forums about that issue, but all that I managed to find was post in other forum threads. I found no thread regarding that issue. Please post your temps here. I am wating for Cooler Master Notepal X2(hope this thing will help me get temps much lower),but till that will happen lets share stock temps.
P.S As G71GX have same cooling system, I thought that this thread will be intresting for G71 owners as well. I will post screenshots of HWmonitor tomorrow. You are all welcome here.
    Update

I guess if room temperature would be 22C all temps will be 2-3C lower.

Your numbers are normal for the gaming line-up from ASUS. I would only really worry if your over 95+. ASUS has designed these machines in general to handle the higher temps without issue.

My temps without a cooler for a G71GX are:

    Idle - CPU 38C, GPU 50C
    Load - CPU 57-58C, GPU 85C

    Undervolted CPU
    Idle - CPU 36C, GPU 49C
    Load - CPU 51-52C, GPU 83C

Your powermizer is obviously not working and you get a high GPU idle temp. Try other drivers or download the powermizer switch from http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=273276

And I'm running Vista, since I tried Win7 and saw some temp increase.

you literally have the same idle temps as me. and in actual gameplay, ive seen my gpu get up to about 83, while playing crysis, its a little more relaxed on wow which isnt gpu intensive (its processor intensive.

    i have the g71gx.

As I understand you get these temperatures under overcklocking. Is it so? You are using copper ram sinks? Could you post some photos of that mod?

I made update with overclocked temps. Relying on what you said I guess that playing on stock without cooler is safe. I think it will be safe even at OC-ed frequencies.

I've send letter to Asus techical support. Here is what I asked from them.

    [Product Information]
    *Product Type : Notebook
    *Product Model : G72GX
    *Operating System : Windows 7

    [Problem Description]
    Good day,
I am owner of Asus G72GX-RBBX-05. I am very interested about working temperature interval. At stock clocks I am idling CPU and GPU 40C and 61C respectively. Under full load I am at CPU 59C and GPU 89C.Are thid normal temperatures? Room temperature 26C. Laptop is standing on wooden table in the center of room, so airflow is optimal. Powermizer is working properly, it downclocks my GPU at 2D.Could you please post me normal working temperatures for this laptop and critical temperatures as well.
    Waiting for your soonest answer.

I'll post aswer as soon as I get it.
    waiting for your comments

I use CPUGenie to undervolt my CPU, but I did purchase it. There are some free options but I preferred CPUGenie's interface and it runs in the background automatically at boottime so it saves me some hassle. I had no trouble setting it up and it did an extended stability test for me to ensure that the most stable low voltage was found per multiplier. I will say that you CPU probably has a minimum VID so you will not be able to set the voltage below that with this tool. I don't know if it is possible with any other tools.

@ Tim4, i was talking about your temperatures, you're probably in a safe range. its just a little frustrating to me that going so far as attaching copper blocks to the heating solution is required to get temps similar to other laptops in the field, although this is much cheaper.

the cpu paste that came with the laptop is complete crap, and due to asus' design, the hotter the gpu, the hotter the cpu becomes and vice versa.

    MX-2 helps a lot.

    http://i49.tinypic.com/e9yj2a.jpg

    thats with intel burn test

    amazing results for a laptop.

Yesterday I ran the laptop on its side and put a fan facing the bottom of the laptop with the cover off.

Basically the aluminum block that's cooling the GPU affects the temperature the most. cool that aluminum block and your temp issues are gone.

    I hit 57c GPU with the fan in 3Dmark06 550 core/1450 shader/950 memory

the cpu was @ 3.5ghz and only hit around 62c

Wow, thats impressive improvement in temps!Have you reassembled cooling system yourself? If yes could you post some photos of that process? I was very intrested in how to unmount colling system to change thermocompound. Maybe I am wrong, but should you loose you warranty onese you unmounted cooling system?

Is that test taxing on the GPU or just the CPU? Maxing at 57c on that gpu is incredible. So much so I don't believe it =p

I'm yet to replace my stock thermal compound. I got some MX-3 (which is slightly better than mx-2 fyi) but still don't know if i should use the dot "spread" method, or credit card method. poor me =(

Wow ren3g7ade You have chenged your signature.GTX 260M 1GB-DDR3 (550/950/1375 ; Idle/Load: 43C /79C w/ Dox 195.62 v1.1) I have a question. Is it really that huge temp drop using this driver? Or your previous 51/85 were measured without notebook cooler? What about performance of these drivers? Waiting for soonest answer/

The CPU temps are very nice, but UT3 doesn't push the GPU too far. For an hour of UT3 I get about 77C without a cooler, just on a cheap, plastic laptop stand. If I play more shader intensive games like Crysis, GTA IV or Dirt 2 then temp would go up to 84C .
What about your WDC ? Is it located in the bay next to the CPU ?

Yes. It's located there. Tems of it so high, because it is 7200 rpm. My UT3 temp measured now are 80C.
Do you play at overclocked GPU? I overclocked it to stock Nvidias frequencies.
    Update:
I've played Dirt2 now for 40 min on high settings 1600*900. Max GPU temp 80C. Intresting...
Crysis Warhead settings high 1280*720 GPU temp 81C max.

IMO, the main reason that the WDC is much warmer is not because it is 7200 RPM, but because of its proximity with the CPU and GPU which emit considerable amount of heat. Also the second bay doesn't provide enough ventilation. I also got a second HDD - 7200 RPM Hitachi but switched bays with the Seagate. Now the temp of the Hitachi is ~36 C and the Seagate gets up to 45C (used to be about 34C in the original bay).

About the GPU - I keep it almost at stock 550/900/1375. Higher clocks give me a driver error and freezes in 3dmark 06.

It is strange how you get the same temps with UT3 and the more demanding games.

Yep, you noticed that..I don't know what Dox did but is 195.62 v1.1 driver for Win7 x64 worked miracles. I played Borderlands this weekend for 3 hours and the temp never went over 79C. Just for fun I tried Dead Space too (which used to cause my card to stutter and downclock) and that played smooth as butter with a max temp of 71C. I'll be trying a few more games to check for consistency and will post temp screenshots if I can.

Very impressive changes!!I tryed to install 195.62 v1.1. They gain me additional performance in games and benchmarks. temperatures stayed the same. :(
But I rolled back to 186.82 because I had some fps drop issues in Dirt 2 with all 19x.xx drivers on my system. Other games ran smooth. Maybe Dirt 2 is not optimized for Nvidia GPUs. Have you played it on yours?

Nope, don't own Dirt 2 unfortunately. Personally I really don't care about a couple of FPS in a game as long as the game plays smoothly at the settings I want and doesn't generate too much heat.

My temps are a little lower than yours and I can only assume that it may have to do with adding the copper for me. Your temps are very good though and if you don't want to do any of the copper blocks you should be all set (with you humongous cooler fan ;) )

Offtopic: Do you have some occasional stuttering in Dirt 2 ? Sometimes when playing Dirt 2, or Gird (they both use the same engine), my picture freezes, the HDD led stays on, and the sound starts looping. In GRID happens exclusively on the large Le Mans 24hr curcuit.

Yes. I didn't play GRID on this laptop.Dirt 2 starts jerking in the middle of track till the end, then it could work smooth 2-3 tracks. I tryed different drivers, but still no result.

I thought I'm alone in the dark with this problem. I also tried everything - drivers, clean install of Vista 64, Win7 64, latest patches for the games and nothing worked. Pretty much had to abandon those 2 games because they were driving me crazy.

I tried the Dirt 2 demo the other day off of Steam, and the same thing happened when I was watching the benchmark level. The whole game would lag and stutter every now and then.

Never happened while I was actually racing though.

Yesterday, found intresting update for windows in update center. "Microsoft update for Nvidia GTX 260M" . I am very curious is that just simple driver update or some system fix to improove performance of VGA? Anybody have this update? I'll try to update today or maybe tomorrow...

Its a BIOS issue, it was the same thing with the G71GX, your gonna have to wait for an upgate.

To be honest looking at it again, the G72GX looks like my G71, so it probably has the same exact problem. Update the BIOS. I can play WOW, Evony and Tiger Woods online all while running my DJ software. This is a powerful computer.

Are you talking about the Dirt2/Grid stuttering issues? Because I have a G71GX (BB), the latest BIOS (17.04 I believe) and have the issue.

Tim, as far as I've read you need a screen with at least 100Hz refresh rate to enjoy stuff with real 3D.

It's says there that you could use your monitor and anaglyph glasses. So I think every monitor will suit it.
