Run it on the desktop and just wait a minute or so and make a screenshot.

Mine were exactly like yours, but disabling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery gave me these:

It looks like having it enabled causes the red spikes every few seconds. Probably it's polling the battery status. When you disable it you can't see your battery status, but since my laptop is used as a desktop I don't mind.

But it's dissapointing that high latency occurs in the first place. It may cause sound cracking and stuttering.

Did as you and it helped. Now I am getting same graph as you. Interesting is there any other solution instead of turning of ACPI?

Hey,Stinger I found the way to solve our issue with dirt 2. Just unzip file in attachment to system folder in Dirt2 folder. That's it. Enjoy the game.

Hey all, I'm going to be picking this laptop up tomorrow from Best Buy and I can't wait.

    About these temps and coolers.

I actually use laptops on my lap. A lot of these coolers do not look like they would be comfortable when resting in my lap. Any thoughts and/or suggestions for me?

I would prefer to get something from Amazon so I can get it overnighted but im not tied to there.

Hey everyone thanx for the info, i just received my laptop from bestbuy and all the info on this forum and the owner lounge for asus g72gx have really helped (thanx tim, seems like a majority of it should be credited to u.)

standard clocking: idol gpu-59-61* cpu's were at 41*
during crysis play gpu-76*, cpu's were at 50-5*

overclocking with turbogear at 15%: idol 60-2*/ cpu's at 42-5*
during crysis play gpu 80*, cpu's were at 55*
sound about right? seems so from other results
    monitored with nvidea system monitor

im sure there are way better overclocking programs but im a newbie and turbogear seemed idiot proof..any recommendations to programs or settings i should use with em?

Im new to the pc gaming so these temps and frame rates are pretty foreign to me. i played with it on my lap using a skinny box to put some space between us. im sure thats pathetic but i love playing on my couch..haha..but do u know of any coolers that comfortable or made for lap play please let me know

iv updated the driver using driver sweeper and the newest driver from nvidia as discussed in the other forum, and was thinkin about trying out the the dox driver, but was gonna try a couple days with the nvidia first....anyone bias towards which one is "better"...sounds like ill get a bit better performance and lower temps with dox? any cons though?

and i cant figure out what these media/hotkey buttons do..the only one that works is the touchpad disabler....can u assign functions to these buttons?

and i disabled all sleep funcitons in all power modes and made it so when i close the lid nothing happens in all power modes..yet when i close lid with no separate monitor attached, it powers down or sleeps anyways and when i reopen lid get a black screen with no response to anything except for forced shutdown from holding power button. iv have updated my BIOS as well.

I also play without my battery in...anyone against that? (has extended my laptop batterys life in my years so far)

I have played dirt2 with no problems so far maybe a few frames dropped, i should still install that attachment right?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions in the temp post but i didnt want to look and post in different threads or what not.

ps i love this thing :D

My G71GX (9 months old) just completely fried. It shut itself off. As I went to see why, I almost burned my fingers on the keyboard. Took it apart, blew out any dust. Back cover had massive heat marks -- almost looked like anodized aluminum.

Let it cool for a few hours, turned it back on ... lasted 5 minutes in dead idle before it began heating up and shut down again. All was ok before starting to finally challege the GPU with Modern Warfare 2 (just strategy games before).

I did all the previous required updates (Bios to 12.01 for thermal issue fix) the first week or two I had the machine, and have had Windows 7 64 on it for at least 6 months.

I just don't believe that a computer could get so hot, and I also couldn't believe how tiny the heat sink and ventilation system is. Got an RA from ASUS but I'm not expecting much ...

Really? Have you ever looked before? It's pretty much the norm for high performance graphics cards.

Hot enough to shut off and burn out the machine??? Hot enough that the entire machine -- even the keyboard -- is too hot to touch??? Hot enough to "anodize" the back cover??? And for this to happen to a machine that never overheated before?

No, that's not "the norm;" not by a longshot. I'm wondering if the fan blew out, or the heat sink or another aspect of the cooling system went kaput. Something obviously had to have failed for this to occur.

P.S. This is not my first machine with a high performance card, and I challenged my old machines pretty hard.

Tim, I've owned a G72GX for about 6 months or so, and I was never able to play Dirt 2 because of the stuttering glitch that was referred to earlier in this post. I created an account on this forum solely to try out the fix that you had suggested, and low and behold, the problem was gone! Now I can get all the way through the race without randomly crashing in to an oil barrel...well I might still crash in to one...but at least I can blame my crappy driving instead of the stuttering! :D

    Thanks again man.
