According to Vicious review, HD 5870 cannot reach 60 FPS + in RE5 with all on max.

Ok...
And YES,it go away with vsync... -
Mandrake, I`ll uninstall the 10.3 driver and intall the GPU driver provided by asus (the one on the recovery disk)...
The tearing just doesn`t stop,but,when I turn on Vsync,the perfomance low. -
BTW,wich version is 10.3?
I know Evenseen already posed it,but I just couldn`t find...
I`m not sure if I`m using 10.3 -
your talking about moving around and the screen tears from right to left correct?
-
If you go into CCC or device manager it will tell you the driver version.
-
I was using 10.3
Intsalled the driver provided by Asus and the tearing continue...
Please tell me I don`t have to use Vsync ON forever.
I`m going back to 10.3 because I lost 7FPS on DragonAge. -
This tearing is really bothering me...the notebook is perfect,but...
I`ll test on CoD MW2 -
I turn vsync on in my games and turn it off for benchmarking. Vsync is there to address this problem of slower refresh rates.
Same thing happen in my last few gaming systems. -
Sou you use you use Vsync ON?
Try RE5 Benchmark without vsync and see if it happens to you too...maybe its not an isoltaed problem.
BTW,using the older driver, the tearing was a little smaller, but it still exists -
BTW, I've run the RE5 benchmark on a system with dual 4870s and I don't remember seeing screen tearing. I'll just make sire it's the same with the G73. Any chance you can post a video of the issue? -
Sure I can,but how?
BTW OMG!
I was testing in another resolution to make sure it`s not a resolution problem.
I was playing for 30 seconds on 1600x1050 when the screen went black with white stripes! I almost had a heart atack j/k
I made a hard reboot and all went back to normal...Now I don`t now if the issue was because of my O/C (800/1100) or because I was playing in a non-native resolution and it hit the GPU. The temps were normal.
BTW, the tearing happens in 1600x1050 too... -
it should be..when you turn right or left...the top half of the screen moves before the bottom half..because the frames aren't synced...and you never saw this on the m17xr2?
-
-
you can always do a system restore back to when it was working....worth a try.
-
I don`t think so...
All runs great with no issues, except for the tearing (wich is solved using Vsync)
Just when I changed the resoulotion, the video crashed but it came back to normal after reboot. I saw the same problem on the other thread.I think its not too important, like a random BSOD once 15 days/a month. -
-
''Just need something that can record video''
What Software?
Sorry for multiposting....
BTW, shouldn`t I install a ''monitor(screen) drive'' -

im with mr drake on this one...if at all possible..can we watch?
this happens with the desktop 5870's and 5970's and can go horizontal as well....
pain in the azz because you cant see what code it throws up to try to understand what's wrong.
what i did to correct this was raise the lowest set of clocks to something like 400/600 and now i don't get it....
you never had the lines right drake? -
Well I had these lines for the first time....
I know its not normal, but I don`t think I should worry too much because its all running great (except the tearing, wich is solved withc vsync)
Well, I`ll try to record with my Nokia N97,but I don`t think it will be possbile to see... -
-
then that's a good thing....with us...it has to do with that ulps and how the clocks drop with not enough voltage.
more so with the 5970's than the 5870's.. -
Is there any LCD monitor driver available for download?
Maybe I have to configurate the refresh rate. -
you can try to run it at 1280x1024 @75
if it will let you...just for testing purposes.
side note:
just ran vantage on a nvidia gpu and the cpu test is still exactly the same as 1.01 -
-
At a local shop I can buy a homemade laptop with a i7 920 (desktop cpu) in it or a clevo 860CU with a 920xm mobile in it (would be exacly the same has the asus by the way)... wish one should i take ? I think this 920 is a great overclocker
My asus is backorder again for 3 week that's why i'm looking for something else -
The W860CU will limit OC'ing due to power constraints an available options to OC.
The homemade laptop I'm sure is a barebone of some type of brand. Probably another Clevo if it has a desktop CPU. -
just stand around and start moving the mouse real fast..if the whole pictures moves...your golden..if it starts doing the zig zag effect (top part of screen not moving dead even with bottom half of screen.)...it's tearing.
side note:
does it look like any of these...
if your looking like this...could be bad vram or to high of an over clock or too much voltage or jacked up driver or driver support for the game...
hummm, and they seem to have some tool to fix it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQXppnkj2qY -
W860CU is a bad overclocker ?
for the homemade, I found it's a clevo D900f
it's a nice overclocker ?
-

That is only with the extreme where you can change the multi though John...sadly the D900f suffers from the same limited BIOS as all other clevo's
Between the 2 though, the D900f should perform better at stock speeds and will definitely have better cooling -
he just asked which one was the over clocker...that link explains all he is looking for. also which cpus do and don't over clock.
and looking at the inside...the new 5870s wont fit either. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ya I noticed that ONLY the W860 and the W870 got the 5870 upgrade from Clevo.
Will be kind of sad if there are not any multi card 5870m systems -
If you're specifically looking for something to OC with and benchmark with the G73 would be the one. -
very sad day if so....
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Yes, for mobile i7 cpu oc'ing, the G73 is easily the king
But if your love is benchmarks, for the 3d ones you will be limited by the single video card - dual 4870s in the alienware M17x still beats a single 5870 in non dx11 titles -
what!
i would hurry up and flash back!
and yes, that 133 mhz jump is a serious killer...lol -
Thank you for the reply Johkss. Yes, that`s it!
Its real fast, but I can see it.Vsync solves the problem, but, lows the perfomance. -
BTW, I get rank B. -
-
Also it seem like the G73 is the only notebook that will let you OC non-extreme procs. It's a 7% bclk increase or nothing but it at least will OC. -
vsync should only limit you to 60 clean fps. and 60 fps is plenty good for most games...given you we're already above well above 60 to begin with...
some of these games...you need to take out all your tweaking and performance settings and set them to quality or high quality..ati seems to be greatly affected by this at times. ati seems to want more quality to act right than performance settings...nvidia was more of the performance over quality. as we seen in our testing since 2008 to now. this may also help with your situation...give it a try...
side note...aint that 285 and under cover 280? -
speaking of quality if you made any change in CCC I would set it back to default.
-
I just had those white stripes again while playing MW2...
Guess I won`t overclock anymore,or try other numbers, maybe 800 / 1100 is unstable for me.
I`ll play now and see if I get white stripes without OC,but, the two times I got,my GPU was overclocked.Lets check it out.
BTW,the tearing happens on MW2 too (Vsync solves the problem on MW2 too) -

*facepalm*
i sure hope fermi is up to par!! evga has tech support like no other and i would rather have an evga card....all though....this ati is running like a champ now. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ya, I wish EVGA started offering ATI cards like XFX did. I would be all over that. But I think fermi is going to be a huge fail, in both performance and price
