and another question: does overclocking to a resonable amount (i.e. where card still works at normal temps ~80) is bad for any reason? or is it the same?

example lets say stock 700mhz at 70C and 800mhz at 80C - will this be bad for laptop and card itseld at all?

Yes, anything that adds extra heat will shorten the life span.

catacylsm, did you overclock either your Q9000 or 4850 to get the 6801 score?

6555 definitely stands pretty well against newer laptop - its just seemingly 4850 doesn't do any higher core frequency.

@Mandrake, quit teasing us with default setting man, its getting annoying... :D

Inverse topic kind of question here -

I was wondering if there are methods for underclocking / volting that would prolong the battery life. Just wondering in case you were mobile and had no access to power if there were significant ways to extend the usage time for simple web / word processing tasks?

    Same tools, mack.

Ati clock tool allows you to underclock AND undervolt the gpu by a little bit as well. I haven't tried it yet, but there is an undervolt dropdown that drops the voltage by a small amount.

Mandrake, any special tips you can give us about a fresh install of the OS? Did you use the system restore DVD's you burned initially, or did you use some extra copies of W7 you had lying around?

I used the Win 7 DVD that came with the system. When it asks for the second DVD don't add it. Bounce your system at that point and Windows will continue without installing all the bloat. Once that's done use the driver/utilities DVD to install what you want.

Got the 4850 pushed a bit, but someone got like 7500p score with his 4850 and i think a q9200 overclocked.

The ASUS seems to be locked so dam tight haha, nice use of heatpipes, although it seems to compacted together in there? Could be wrong.

    Dont break the seal! :p.

You would have to compare it with a 4870 or gtx 280 from the AlienWare. My guess is that the slot notch will be on the opposite side.

    Think that's it a Reverse MXM 3.0 Type B.

I wanted to try one in a G72 since it's also reverse However
The G72 Uses reverse MXM 2.1 SO no go.

The notch is in the middle. How can you tell? I'll compare it to a 4870 but kids bath first.

It's like DDr ram. The notch is not perfectly centered. I bet on a reverse mxm, there is more space on one side of the notch than on standard mxm.

Yes, that is how reverse MXM works.

Still can't tell from the pic as it's been a while since I took apart and looked at a regular MXM module.

hyperx memory usually has tighter timings and it could help in benchmark but not real life application. It's a great memory for someone like Mandrake that push system to their limit!!

if we done this ourselves and changed the cpu, is it just the cpu warranty that is voided or the entire machine?
