Turbo mode can raise all 4 cores 1 speed bin (133 MHz) if all cores are under load

Anyone try using setfsb at 160 with evga eleet with brink OC turned on and twin turbo mode enabled? This should push you to 2.9ghz
-
There's a 13 multiplier with Turbo Boost:
13 can be used when 3 or 4 cores are active
18 can be used when 2 cores are active
21 can be used when 1 core is active -
Intel Turbo Boost gives you 13x when all four cores are active at full load.
When Asus Twin Turbo TT is switched on, only get x12 when all four cores are active at full load.
I've noticed when i use SetFSB to OC CPU, i do get 13x. -
What is "evga eleet with brink OC" ? assuming its an OC utility? Do you still get x13 multiplier when you OC using this utility? -
stock fsb is at 139, 146 is not much of a jump. I went up to 162, didn't try anything higher but I didn't get any bsod's occt shut down because of temps when I went that high. -
So is SPDtool a complete bust for us? Is there another tool compatible with our newer hardware that can flash the SPD? I'm running a stable overclock with setFSB to get a 150mhz bus, pushing the 4 cores to 1.8ghz. But the memory then runs at 300mhz so 1200mhz actual frequency.
If I could downclock the memory I think I could squeeze more juice out of the 720qm, but I'm not going to cry if I can't. It's already beyond pointless. I just overclock because I can and it's fun.
Edit:
If I take my ram out and put it in my P-7811fx one module at a time could I re-flash it in there? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
If you want the best overclock, only use one stick of ram. More sticks add more stress to the memory controller lowering its fault point. The memory should be dam near 100% stable at those clocks as long as you don't have the timings dropped down but to add piece of mind, maybe you should get a set of good 1333 rated so-dimms.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Showing just that window without any cpu-z or gpu-z is not very useful. The score is in line with a 720qm but you should do the full screenshot like everyone else is
-
With this budget limitation, you can see why I'm tentative about flashing the SPD because I can't afford to buy replacement RAM if I fry the modules. That's why I would try doing them one at a time in my old laptop if someone with SPD flashing experience on here thinks that is a good idea. That way if I fry one, well at least I still have 4gb of RAM until I can afford more. -

I have never flashed a memory stick or heard of it....this would almost certainly end in a problem for you......are there any options in the BIOS for adjusting the memory speed? Lower it at boot so that once in windows and the bclk is raised it will be back where it should be
but like I said.....I highly doubt the ram is your limiting factor....you can try a program like memmset to raise the latencies some giving you more wiggle room -
The G73JH doesn't provide memory tweaking options in the BIOS so I can't lower it there. MemSet isn't compatible with this chipset (HM55). CPU Tweaker doesn't work too well either, so I've decided against loosening the timings.
I know for a fact that the memory is my limiting factor because when I raise the bclk past 160 I get a blue screen. The ram is rated for 1066mhz and was never meant to run much higher. I'm actually surprised that I can get it running stable at 1200mhz. That's a decent overclock for laptop ram if you ask me. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Alot of people with the M17x (my laptop) were able to run the ram rated at 1066 100% stable at 1333. Check the SPD readings in CPU-z, is there nothing higher than 533? I will bet there is. The ram can run at the higher settings. 160 BCLK is pretty high for your cpu - getting close to as high as it will go. Unless you add CPU voltage you will not be able to get past a certain threshold.
-
If I could loosen the CAS timing (which is locked in CPU tweaker) I could reach 609mhz, but I'm already reaching 600mhz on stock timings so the combined low latency with high frequency gives me a good memory bandwidth.
Is there a way to fix CPU tweaker so I can change all the timings? If there is I can't find it. If I could bump up to 9-9-9-26 I'm sure I could boost the frequency even more, but CPU tweaker has been too buggy for me to get it to work. -

you cannot change the cas latency without restarting the system
it can never be changed from the OS, only at boot -
Hello guys...
i need some help. i plan to buy Asus G73. and i will use it to play only 1 game. that is a MMORPG from Square Enix, Final Fantasy XIV.
the problem is, i'm having difficulties to choose, should i buy the standard version of G73 (using i7-720Q) or should i upgrade it (using i7-920XM).
i have search on the internet everywhere for about a week. there are plenty people who post their score using standard G73 i7-720 on FFXIV Benchmark. It reachs 2000-ish on High Quality (1080p) and 3500-ish on Low Quality (720p).
Can any of you (Mandrake perhaps... ^^) who own G73 with custom i7, be kind enough to help me, benchmark your customized G73 using FFXIV Benchmark on both Low and High Quality?
The download link for the benchmark is: www.finalfantasyxiv.com/media/benchmark/na/
This will help me A LOT on deciding which one to buy...because it is definitely not cheap.
FYI, FFXIV depends highly on both CPU and GPU...that's why i'm curious, how much better can i7-920 score compared to the standard i7-720.
Many-many thanks! -

Final Fantasy XIV requires Cat 10.7 or later to run, and the G73 isn't known for 100% stability on ATI reference drivers past 10.1. 10.7a may work, but the jury is still out on that.
-

-
10.7a still gives GSODs. It does not work.
-
But others have reported that it increases their stability. I don't think anyone's calling it a complete fix anymore, but no need to say it does not work when it at least helps some (who could hardly play games for 5 minutes before).

Thaiphoon Burner is a tool that works with our chipset to flash SPD data. There is a catch. You have to pay $21 USD. Oh and something else I learned the hard way, some memory is Permanent Software Write Protected. PSWP is irreversible. There is no way around it. None. $21 down the drain...
I might try taking the memory out of my 7811FX and using it in my G73 if it happens to have no PSWP. If that's the case maybe I'll be in luck. I hope my discovery keeps at least one person from spending money on this program that would work if my ram wasn't locked. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Low Resolution returned a score or rating of 4,036. -
i can run the benchmark fine if overclocked (no GSOD) but my comp overheats and dies at score 1000 haha what a brick the g73jh ...
-
-
if the comp just shuts straight off... just boom black and off... that is overheating right?? saw my temps go 108 last thing then gone
i idle at 78 now too... sigh i want to sell this garbage -
fritzer: all you need is a simple gpu repasting, and all your temp issues will be solved
-
My G73 hit 75+ with MemIO idling as well before repasted. However, now it is at only 60 when I typing this post... The huge improvement (or shall we say the poor paste ASUS originally applied) really astonishes me.
PS: I would like to thank Chastity for the post relating repaste experience. It helps a lot. -
Glad to be of service to those victimized by Asus Assembly Bugbears!
-
micman, to check if your RAM sticks are write-protected run Thaiphoon Burner, choose EEPROM -> PSW Protection. If some check boxes for corresponding EEPROMs are disabled then your sticks are PSWPed.
-
btw you get to 160 **cough** 170 in setfsb like this

Hello. Is anyone tried to set memory clocks on 1300mhz and tested it with some benchmarking tool like 3dmark06? What were results if yes?
-
This is what I`ve got today with 820/1300 clocks

does Asus G73JH-RBBX05 is upgradeable to i7 820qm? does it have integrated bluetooth connection? if it doesnt? whice series of G73 has the bluetooth integrated?
-
-
i don't understand sean, because to many series of this G73would you please gimme the series of regular G73 that you suggested to me?
-
These also come with a gaming mouse and pretty sweet backpack/carrying case (imho)
But honestly, with the G73JW coming in September, I'd wait to see what the word is on that model before buying any G73 -
what score did you get with final fantasy 14 benchmark, at full hd resolution?
-
-
import from US reseller... total cost will be $1900 with shipping... way cheaper than buying from indonesia..
-
Hi,
I've just installed an I7-940xm in my G73.But, i cant find anything in the BIOS regarding overclocking. Does the BIOS not recognize the 940XM or do I have to enabled it somehow?
-
So, on stock, I managed a decent score. (at least, from what I'm told)
I'm on the G73Jh-1ATY/A1 (I had a 1ATY that had an i5, but they upgraded me when it was going to take far too long to get me a replacement motherboard). I only have 4GB Ram and 500GB HDD (MomentusXT) -
-
Hey guys...how is it possible to push your 5870 to 860MHz and 1100MHz? I am only able to clock my ATI stable at 760MHz and 1100MHz with the AMD Clock Tool. Did I missed something? Greetz
-
Hey guys, first time here. I recieved my new G73JH-A1 yesterday (i7 720qm, 8gb DDR3 1333, 2x 500gb 7200rpm, BD-ROM, 5870m) everything is factory and i'm averaging P8220 in 3dmark Vantage.
my desktop which i thought was a toy compared to the G73JH gets a better score
C2D @ 3.03ghz, 4GB DDR2 800, GeForce GTX260 w/896mb DDR3 (stock clock speeds) and it's getting P11,012
in the real world the Asus plays Bad Company 2 on high settings with 4x AA at 1080p far better than my desktop does and it plays crysis a lot better than my desktop does. maybe i'm not giving my GTX260 enough credit? i know games choke out because of the C2D but i guess i was expecting a higher benchmark score out of the box with the Asus. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Vantage favors a strong GPU, which your desktop has. Your laptop does however have the better cpu of the 2 machines (for most things)
You also have to make sure you run vantage on the desktop with PPU disabled. That could easily be causing it by overinflating the cpu score -
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
No, you should always disable it. Futuremark thought it would be a good CPU test then nvidia bought Ageia and made it so every geforce gpu could run physics. That pretty much made the test null if the PPU is enabled lol
