yes, lets bring back the g73 thread!..wooohooo.
-
ooh that makes sense, i will give it a try tomorrow with PPU disabled on both machines. thank you for the info!
-
setfsb only allows me to go to 162, I tried higher but it drops it to 162 everytime.
-
it resets you say?
-
nvm, I have to exit then reload the program to show the correct fsb. It's showing 170 now. not sure how stable it is though.
-
run wprime 155 with 8 threads
-
-
Damn nice score. John I thought you would have bought an Alienware m17x R2. What made purchase a G73 instead? Wouldn't Alienware give you more benchmarking fun?
-
i still may get an alienware, but for cpu benching...this one is doing pretty damn good.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I think Moo set the bar at 10k GPU score when he got a W870cu when they were new with the 5870
That is the target John
-
Hehe, didn't he bench that while it was in his freezer?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
So what if he did? The stuff in my sig was done in a freezer lol
I don't think that makes it any less impressive
And you must not know john well....one of his criteria for a laptop was the ability to mount his SS unit to it lol -
Well it't not a lot but I got a P9058 out of a OC to 1.9ghz on the 720 and a bump to 790/1090 on the GPU through OD.
See if I can figure out how to bump her up past 800 on the GPU a bit later. Temps were all good throughout the test.
Also with Turbo Enabled on the i7 it would bump up to 3.3Ghz on a single core.
Going to have to do a few in game test later after work.
Oh and @scook9
Nice Avatar. AC MC800? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
M8, was a rental. We got a set of 800cc SumitX's now, the new ones
They are amazing -
Little update. After reprogramming my Turbo Button and just overall tweaking a few settings I pulled a P9117 with the same overclock amount. This time though I left ThrottlesStop out of the loop. Still this is only a Vantage benchmark and I do not know exactly how things will perform in games yet. (only TF2 and EVE Online installed atm. Been working too much.)
-
he set the bar for a w870cu & the better version of the 5870m.
i set the bar for a g73jh and the lower end 5870m. along with the i7-720m
now just waiting to see if the 720m does better in the aw.
and i looked at the w870 as well, but with no cpu over clocking...had to cross it off the list.
wish i would have grabbed that mx17x r2/5870's/1080p/820m for 1500.00 bucks.
but they were bs'n, but a few days later asked me if i still wanted...*facepalm* -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well the tdp unlock in the BIOS for the Asus is rather unusual and very nice. I still think you should have gotten the AW though
-
Whats this now? TDP unlock? Where?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I believe it is for extreme cpus only
The non extreme cpus overheat before it would be utilized anyways and have locked multipliers so it is not really a need for them -
Ah true.. Dang. If only we could alter the FSB/Memory link so we could actually push our little 720's faster. I believe it is the ram way more than the CPU that we are topping out.
-
yep. it's the ram plus the 30 to 35 blck wall.
you can only push bclk so far before it has to be set at that bclk in bios for you to push farther.
although im waiting to see this 170 blck. highest i got was 165...once...lol
i was thinking of even grabbing one like yours. seen one for 800 bucks. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That would keep me busy lol. But then we could also figure out the dam memory bandwidth problem maybe.
And the memory is an easy hurdle to overcome. You can buy some ddr3-1600 rated stuff and push it over 1333 easy (even if not xmp enabled in bios, the modules can handle the speed) -
Don't diss my freezer ... I spent quite a bit of time building a enclosure for the laptop to sit on with fans wired under it ...
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I hear you moo, the freezer is where it is at! I even put a box fan in mine lol
-
I had 3 PSU fans rigged to a AC adapter from a old phone. Took a bit to regulate the V I needed
-
I wasn't dissing. All I said was: Didn't he bench that in a freezer?
-
I saw mention of a said "Good 5870m" vs our "Not as good 5870m" Care to explain the said difference of either one?
-
sure.
simple easy to explain answer.
vantage us = max 9,300k gpu score
vantage moo= max 10,000k gpu score.
how is that? -
hummm, that tdp is locked all the way around for the 720m
but
you can use throttle stop on the 620m and raise that sucker up pretty damn high. both watts and amps.
how weired. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
To add to that. He also did 1 GHz on the 5870m core..... -
yep. that he did
-
Do any of you guys have a picture front and back of the exact card that comes out of our G73? I'd like to get a clear picture of where the VRM's are at.
-
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
that is alot of bclk.....lol
-
that's exactly what i said!! WTH!
and just in case anyone didn't understand before...look what a dual core can do up against the big dawgs!

damn near all first place with an i7-620m
which stomped the hell out of the i7-720m and the i7-820m..wow! - meaning the 5870 benchmarks. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
This has been a good week for you on the bot lol
-
yeah it was. and once i got the 430 and 620 working...it made it all that much better...
i think im about ready for an alienware i7 model now...lol
make a bunch of people mad...lol -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I should be safe haha
-
Yeah, you would be safe. Say, I looked in to pin nodding this and that would be one hell of a damn trick to accomplish. The ics chip is far smaller and harder to get to the pins. I may look it over again later though.....maybe.
-
Dang. The NEW laptop I got sadly does not have the Kingston ram but instead some Hyundai Electronics ram. I can push it to the top end of 1.7Ghz but the minute it hits 1.8+ She blue screens or locks up cold. Nuts since the refurb I had at first did get to 1.9ghz. So getting anything past the P9000 score I posted with that last one will be tough with this thing till I can get some new ram if ever.
-
Hi, all
Does anyone know what is the average FPS + TEMPS you would get when playing a game like Crysis or metro 2033 when this notebook GPU is over clocked
I have seen the video on youtube of the G73JW playing Crysis and the FPS seemed lower than the G73JH also not as smooth. (bit disappointed)
CAN THE G73JW MATCH THE G73JH WHEN OVER CLOCKED
THANKS -
Lol duppex has 4 posts total and they are all the same posts across 4 different threads... Impatient much ?...
-
hey quad, do you have fan control?
-
Hi, Quadzilla
would't you be if you had saved for 9 month to get a JH then the JW came out (very Impatient indeed)
Is there any gaming videos of the G73JW O/C
kool -
This isn't a viable solution for you, but more like a FYI.... if you pull a stick of memory out of it, it will overclock higher. The memory controller on the CPU can't handle the overclock because of the four memory dimms. (I"m assuming you're running four dimms)
The more dimms you pull out the higher it should be able to go. At least that has been my experience thus far.
-
Fan control ? Nope not that i am aware of ..
-
If you saved 9 months then im sure you can wait a few hours or even a day for someone to give you the answer you are looking for
...
Congrats on you saving up to get what you want and i hope you find what your looking for..
I have not done any extensive testing with Crysis or Metro2033 to give my opinion and why i didnt comment on them.. -
That could very well be a possibility, but as my first one did go 1.9ghz with the Kingston ram, I believe it to be more a ram limitation than a CPU limitation unless this CPU is overall a weaker specimen. (that means I replaced that used laptop that had great performance for a new laptop that has a lesser CPU, GPU, and RAM... Crap) Oh well. I might live with it for a year or two and then upgrade to a 940 and 8G of some better ram.
-
i would say it's just the ram..it wont over clock as high as your other ram.
that's 1600 mhz plus. which is a decent over clock for 1333 memory.
i would try some different ram..but the main problem with that is....you have to take that forth stick out, which entails taking the whole laptop apart to get to it.
that is like the main thing i would want to have. i could care less about the noise since i don't do library time. my rooms are always noisy.that would shave off about 15 degrees.
