those are just numbers![]()
now try to play a game with those clocks![]()
what is the purpose for your overlock? fun?
-
ive been playing black ops and need for speed hot pursuit for a while with these clocks, going to try crysis warhead too. and yes for fun lol
-
congratulations -
well black ops and need for speed dont really tax the system, im sure crysis will BSOD lol or i will try 3dmark11, sure that will bsod too lol
i just beat it again now gpu clocked at 820mhz...i must have a super chip
Result
15171 in 3dmark06! -
wow calm down due.. seriously ocing too much.. remmeber its not a 5770!

the 3dmark06 score wont show up, im going to try and push my 5870 to 900 core also...with a 900 core u should be way higher than 13k, did you do the GSOD fix and install the latest 10.12 drivers?
-
Nice job; I can't even get throttlestop to work on mine :'(
-
thanks for pointing that out, edited it to include the full link
Never got the GSOD problem, so i guess i never did the fix -my mobo bois is 211, unedited, and my drivers are 10.12. I think what's holding me back is the CPU scores, not even breaking 1.5fps on those. Tips?
Edit: I applied the fixed bios w/my own modifications (used RBE + ATI winflash, applied 1.2V and 850 / 1100 "defaults"), and got marginal improvement - 14027 marks on the 900 / 1250 clocks.
http://3dmark.com/3dm06/15213440 -
its your cpu holding you back...i overclocked my 940qm to 2015mhz and with boost on i get 3.4ghz, i ran it again with gpu clocks lower than yours 820/4200 and got 15,200
Result
apparently 3dmark06 loves the cpu, we need to benchmark more with vantage and 3dmark11 for our gpu's -
are you on the lastest drivers? you should be pushing over 14.5k with those OCs as I was able to get 14.4k+ at 810/1375 and 1.8ghz.
-
thanks!
I don't quite have the $$ to get a new CPU chasing benchmarks (maybe after CES), and since my CPU won't bottleneck me for gaming, I'm happy where I stand...
Also I set my card to 1000 / 1300, ran furmark for 10 mins, and temps levelled out around 92C after 3 mins. They dropped if i tilted the case back.
So, I figure, I'll open it up, repaste, lap the heatsink, add some thermal pads to the VRAM, and then push the core voltage some more. Gotta gear up for crysis 2 =D
Im on cata 10.12, device manager tells me driver version, 8.801.0.0
What seems funny (Which may be what's going on) is that I apply + set the clock in rivatuner, GPU-Z reports them, as does furmark, but i noticed when i pushed even further, that suddenly furmark reported 699 / 1000... And GPU-Z's "sensors" tabs never reports any change.
help? -
and i use amd gpu clock tool to OC never used rivatuner -
techPowerUp GPU-Z Validation zvhas
AMD GPU clock tool didn't work for me before, but that was before overdrive-modified vbios, I'll try it now.
I used RBE 1.26, to edit the vbios, and ATI winflash 20111 to actually flash the vbios. In RBE, go to clock settings, you can increase the core voltages from there, as well as set defaults (which is why all my GPU-Z screens show 850 / 1100 defaults) Be aware, I went over 100C within 30 seconds on an aggressive furmark run =/ (was trying 1400 memclock)
Why I'm going to lap the HSF and paste it with IC diamond. -
I've never used rivatuners to clock, but I do remember installing it on my first g73 and it crashed my windows and corrupted my drivers, so I had to do a factory restore.
Maybe try with HWinfo to see if your clock changes actually stick once you run a 3D application? -
If you did flashed your vbios over 1.15 volts your clocks are actually reverted to original 700/1000 no matter what your gpuz shows. Thus so low scores. Use gpu clock tool and you wil see that clocks are 700/1000 and that you cant modify them anymore from within program itself.
-
If I change it back to 1.15V, does it work, or should i do a full re-flash of the bios?
I have never had any luck with GPU clock tool. Either no valid devices found, or kernel mode driver, everything.
I've booted into test mode, overridden driver signing... it simply does not agree with me... -
make sure you download the amd gpu clock tool with support for the desktop 5870 series, thats the one that works
-
/sigh
Just when I thought I'd had the golden chip, or something.
That's more like it. 14660 at 825/1125. Realistic. Now, when do we actually get to vmod? Would I have to hardmod that? -
might have to reflash the vbios with new voltages, its risky stuff lol
-
-
then it looks like we are stuck with what asus gave us, plus its not like any game cant be run on high with are hardware anyways lol, crysis 2 will run good cause it was designed on old crappy console hardware thats way less powerful than our systems
-
I must be doing something wrong... I can OC my clock speed to 900mhz+ (didnt reach the max. yet) but my mem clock cant reach more then 1125mhz.
Over 1125mhz on mem, the screen display white.
Ran 3Dmark06 with 800/1125 with 76C max.
EDIT: 900/1125 79C max. Max oc clock on afterburner is 910 -
I think core OC is what's going to give you the most performance boost if you're looking at vantage scores. Can't say I've really observed in game FPS to comment more on that though.
-
yeah, i just got 14861 3D '06
Result
on 830 / 1150.
I'm getting the impression they're overlapping ceilings, maybe TDP issues, because if i drop one, i can raise the other, but not have them both aggressively clocked. Gonna fool around and see if i can get 15k marks =D
As for games, yeah, already powerful enough to enjoy them on high settings, if not ultra. (so far, crysis has been the only one i couldn't go all-out ultra on, BC2 got close) -
you can try a higher rated power supply.

-
A 180w unit is only $38 + s/h.

With ThrottleStop you can easily push that CPU upto around 100W....not leaving much for the rest of the system

tried OCing the memory on GPU now to 1075 and scored a little higher,

Anyone got G73 with GTX 460M to compare scores with the numerous ATI scores around here?

I do not have any links at the time to post, but my G73jh is sporting a 920xm (25/25/27/27) with ThrottleStop setting the W/A at 79/50, 5870m (800c/1100m) @ stock voltage, 8gb RAM @ 1066mhz and a 1600x900 screen.
I went to run 3dMark06 and managed to get a whopping 16,600 for the score, and a 3dMark2011 score was maybe 2200-2400.
As for pushing this machine harder, I will be getting the 180w power brick. But a few questions I have about this wonderful machine:
1) Why does it just cut out (power down on its own with no warning) if the Wattage/Amps are a lil too high, its not overheating, but could it be drawing too much power at 80w/50a?
2) Getting the stronger brick, would the 920xm/5870m push higher due to more leeway?
3) How is it that your video cards are pushing 1000 on the core and more than 1100 on the VRam? If I go any higher, on either, I get the *SoD down the road.
4) Would running the modified vBios allow for more stable higher clocks or could it lower them, and what's this I heard about voltage edits to the card, I know that's risky.
I am not trying to kill my machine, as it runs cool still as WoW pushes the processor to 180*f at times, but is more like 170*f, and the video card running at my overclock wont push past 172*f in a furmark. I just want to see what this can do. -
