if your not going to OC stay with 720
-
personally i don't like to dismantle complex laptops that require removing almost everything to get to the CPU or GPU. but for saving $400+ i would the laptop. so buying the i7-920xm from third party the way i'd go.
-
ES version, though.
-
Any news even?
-
Use www.sendspace.com, rapidshare sucks. I can't even d/l the file, it claims all teh d/l slots are filled (at 7:44 am EST..sure). -
I have been doing the runs on top of my cooler with the bottom door removed. I also prop it higher on my Cryo than normal so the air actually blows into it since the Cryo fans are in the back.
No I don't game OC'ed. My games don't require it. I already use vsync to stop all the screen tearing from it going so fast, going faster won't help.
The noise level isn't close to that of the M17x. The M17x sounds like a jet airplane.
Your TDP and TDC numbers are your power limits (watts and amps). The lower the limit the less head room the turbo boost has to work with. If it's too low turbo mode will stop working.
I've been OC'ing via the bios but you can use that evga eleet program I linked in the original post.
RJtech is a trusted reseller for parts. It just won't be cheap. I normally stay away from es processors.
If there is anything unlocked in the bios for the 620 it would be an integrated graphics option to help save battery life.
BTW, I oc'ed my cards via the vbios. It's not locked.
Play with evga eleet. Once you get a better understanding then go into the bios. -

Is this guy serious or is this a joke? Does he even know what the HD5870 is?
-
-
nice, Mandrake!
-
Aiming for 17k 3dmark 06, and 10k vantage Mr Drake?
-
Sounds about right.
How do you all like the format of the first page? -
Very impressive drake. You are getting every last ounce of possibility out of this thing.
First page works fine. Function over form.
Excuse my retardedness, but I downloaded that file and double-clicked it. It launched LFD2 and I hit escape through the intro movies. I then ended up at some weird black and white video of zombies walking around, but nothing else happend!? Could you explain what to do with this file?
Also, several people have asked me to record Frap videos of Battlefield Bad Company 2 in high def and host them somewhere other than Youtube (because of compressions/degradation). Can anyone give me a real quick cliff-notes version of how to do this for people so they know the performance? (recording a frap video and where I could host it in HD?)
Thanks guys! -
Upload the video to a file hosting site and let us download it and watch it! Streaming sites always suck unless you have your own server and can upload it and use the DivX web player.
Good HD bitrate is 2-7 MB/S (depending on if it's anime, live action etc.), bit high for any streaming site. -
Ken from gentech uses a camcorder. Recording it will bring your FPS down.
-
I suppose I could record it with my digital camera's video function... Seems ghetto to me, but I guess it will get the point across.
-
That CPU score is insane. I can't seem to get mine above 16k using the same processor.
-
When I saw his video review playing batman you couldn't even tell.
We've been discussing that in the M17x benchmark thread. Going down to a single 4870 doesn't help. -
Do I need to download a program to get my gpu, cpu, and hdd temps? If so can one of u guys recommend a good one that is relitively easy to use?
-
It would still not be the original output. Can you please just post fraps videos on megaupload.com or rapidshare or something like that. Please. Just have to keep in mind that the real fps will be 2-4 frames more than in the frapped video.
Use demo if you dont have fraps. Or you could "procure" it elsewhere to avoid the watermarks... Wink wink
http://www.fraps.com/download.php
Then use some video converter like virtualdub
http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/ -
I use hwinfo32 for cpu and gpu. There is an app, don't remember what it's called, on the utilities DVD that will measure fan speed and hdd temps.
-
Hwinfo32 or Ati Clock tool
Esso, I think I must be doing something wrong because when I start recording a video in Fraps, my fps drops by almost half. I got from 40-50 fps down to 20-25.
I did take a video on my digicam video, but it looks like crap...
http://www.sendspace.com/file/ag26o5 -
Its simple. Just Run BC2 with fraps but dont record yet. Note the fraps yellow numbers in the corner and remember the average. Then just configure fraps to record in those frames. If you have fraps set to record at 25fps it will cap your game. Let it loose baby!
EDIT
Just watch this. ^^

here's my vantage score.

Ok so while I was installing ati clock tool my system completely froze... I let it sit for 10 minutes before hitting the power button, and when I turned it back on and loaded windows it started installing again and froze again
Did I just totally screw up my compuer? What should I do now??
should I restart in “safe mode”
someone please help -
Nice score. 850 on the core is a bit on the daring side.
-
Safe mode and uninstall if it's there.

851/1100? You are playing dangerously close to the edge of pool! Did you experience any screen issues during the time between each test?
And, you did see that my G73's screen died right after I tried 860/1100 right? -
1100 isn't an issue. I went beyond that with my 4870s. 850 in the core is a bit high.
-
thanks. Yeah I know, my clocks are set to stock clocks now.
Your screen died? I didn't experience any screen issues. -

Yup, I posted pics of what it looked like. Not sure if my OC'ing somehow excellerated the problem, or what the exact problem is now. All I know is that I successfully ran Futuremark at 860/1100 to get a score of 9109. Immediately after uploading score to this thread, I tried to run 860/1100 in 3DMark06. It froze during the first 2 seconds of the opening video scene. I did a hard reboot, and when she came back on the screen had flipped. Half the screen was white/grey with digital lines, and the other half was psychedellic colors. It's on it's way back to Fremont, CA for a replacement.
-
I think that did the trick, I got on there and deleted ati clock tool then did a proper windows shut down... gonna let it sit for the next 30-45 minutes before I turn back on. I hope everything's ok
thanks for the help -
No matter what I set it to, it cuts my frames in half. I watched that video. I set my video record settings to 42 fps, which is what it was showing in-game. I tried lock frame, half-screen, everything. It cuts my frames in half, w-t-f?
Sure you got the latest version? -
Very strange.
Sorry to hear that Even. Guess i will just have to do without the video. Oh well, thanks for trying atleast. Rep for that alone.
-
probably not, Im so bad at this stuff... and my computer is still locking up like right after I sign in. I can tell its trying to install something because the ghz is like 2 - 2.2 while it would normally be at 1.6
I just dont know what to do? -
Don't give up. I'm trying another capture software.
-
trying a system restore *fingers crossed*
-
that didnt work
is it possible to do a clean install from safe mode?
seems like my best bet at this point -
Just boot off the Win 7 DVD Asus gave you. Is that what you did already?
-
not yet... what does boot mean? do I just put the Win 7 DVD into the disk drive?
-
Restart your machine with the disk in the drive, press ESC when the ASUS screen shows up and select boot from DVD drive.
-
ASUS Preload Wizard gives me 3 options
Recover Windows to first partition only
Recover Windows to entire HD
Recover Windows to entire HD with two paritions.
IDK what this means or what I should choose? -
Mandrake did you change the thermal paste also? Do you think it makes a difference?
-
Entire HD with two partition will get you back to when it was brand new. Entire HD will give you one partition (doesnt erase the recovery partition). First partition option leaves the second partition untouched if you had data (music, movies, pics, etc) saved on there.
-
Ok option 1 should do the trick, thanks.
and sorry for spamming the thread with dumb questions -
Yes, whenever I make a change I replace the thermal paste. I don't think it made much of a difference but I didn't start taking temps until after the 920 was in.
-
You burned out the video ram. GG. Considering how hot the 5870 runs in these G73's, I wouldn't try OC'ing at all.
-
I don't think the 5870 runs all that hot in these joker.
I can get furmark to cook it quite a bit, but in real world use it runs just fine and within pretty safe ranges. -
http://www.sendspace.com/file/ie5zyi
Here's the timedemo.
Put it in your steam>steamapps>common>left for dead 2>left for dead 2.
Then run the game, type "timedemo time4" in the console
At the end you will see the average fps.
