LOL,
Well it was about the only thing I could add to the conversation. I think you've covered just about everything else...most awesomely I might add!![]()

Thanks man .. Im doing my best
.
Someone needs to create that owners lounge though if there up to it that is..
It can become a full on responsibility and i figured someone who is gung ho about the machine would go at it full force ..
Not sure im up to at the moment lol.. -
After doing some floating around a few other forums someone mentioned that Best Buy has exclusive rights to the laptops with the WiDi option for 6 months. I'm not sure it's true but that bites. -
, I won't have the time to do it well. Hopefully someone with a lot longer rep bar than me will jump on the G73JW bandwagon soon and put one up.
-
/Runs for the hills screaming NOT ME !!! -
Take that BestBuy and Intel!!
Supposed to be better than widi. They are in talks to WHDI chipsets for laptops. Probably next year. -
Hi Guys,
I am pretty new to this forum, have been reading you guys for 1-2 months, but I just registered today. I have decided to buy the G73JW, but I cannot decide where to buy it. Which online stores do you guys normally purchase things from? I know GenTech and XoticPC, but do you guys know which one is better? Or is there a better place to go?
I have also been using Macs, and this is going to be my first Windows computer, although I have used Windows at school and on friends' pcs. What should I do when I get it? A clean install?
Almost forgot, I also want to thank you guys, for all the information I have gotten from you. -
Gentech is awesome as thats where i got my JW from and i have heard good things about Xotic as well but never ordered from them ...
As for what to do when you get it ? You would probably be just fine uninstalling all the useless junk the machine ships with and thats about all really...
The machine does not ship with an OS disk so unless you have your own copy of Windows 7 then youll be stuck with the factory OS which is fine BTW...
Make some restore discs as well when you first get it just incase you mess up etc... Takes 5 dvds lol but it might come in handy...
-
cool, thanks!
I will have my own Win 7 disc. But I am afraid if I do a clean install I lose some special feature that comes with the factory OS.
Probably order it tomorrow. I'll go to Gentech then, since I have been reading all of you guys purchasing your pc from Gentech.
So excited, my first powerful laptop. -
Everything that comes on the machine is on the drivers disc they give you with the machine so you should be ok
..
Asus used to give you the OS disk and the driver disc but now just the latter... If you have your own OS disc then youll be fine and the driver disc is totally automated so you just check off what you want installed and it does it all automagically.. -
-
Yeah, I just went through a clean install myself. It's exactly as Quadzilla says, totally automated and you can choose what you want and don't want.
This thread is a great source to figure out what you want and don't want:

Glad to hear you are going with GenTech, I couldn't be happier with the support I've received from them. Five minutes after I posted earlier that I was having WiFi problems, Ken from Gentech sent me a message on how to resolve it within five minutes. -
Now honestly i may have never used it but it would have been nice to have just in case...
-
since it didnt come with it, can it be added? is there an open port for it or a missing spot on the laptop that a small module can be added. meaning the factory module.
-
I opened mine today to repaste but didnt see anything saying "Place WiDi Here" So im not sure lol...
Honestly its probably some sort of mini express card or some such...
It probably chewed into the bottom line of the profit on the machine and had to be nixed at the last second...
You know how the big companies are ... $2.00 extra ? Oh no thats gotta go i need a new car lol... -
so you didnt see an extra connector covered in tape or just sitting there? on either side of the motherboard. no empty space missing a screw or two?
or even a part replace..which would do two things instead of one..(example: blutooth and wifi on the same cards) -
Nope nothing of the sort or out of the ordinary...
Bluetooth was where it was on the JH and the wireless card is in a similar spot only turned in a different direction ... There were some changes to the motheboard but i cant say i remember seeing anything ..
I didnt pick over it with a fine tooth comb though because frankly i was not looking for it ..
Its probably something that was going on to the motherboard itself and they dumped it because of issues or like i said just cost... They change stuff all the time as cost saving measures so i was not shocked when i heard that it got removed... Heck they use to ship with OS dvds but removed that for cost purposes and thats just a bloody disc lol...
Oh and before i forget GPU Z reports the voltage of the card as 0.81..

Intel announces WiDi HD wireless display technology -- Engadget
- Intel Core i3, i5 or i7-620M or any CPU that has Intel HD Graphics.
- Intel Wireless Card
- Intel Chipset
- Intel My WiFi Software
- Windows 7.
However, even the laptop meets all the hardware requirement it still up to notebook manufacturers if they want to enable the feature in the mainboard or BIOS.
WiDi can only display 720P with Intel HD Graphics found on i3 and i5 CPUs, that is why some $600~$800 laptops came with WiDi enable.
Asus WiCast will be much better:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Eee - ASUS WiCast EW2000
It can stream 1080P with any graphics card. -
Hola, ordered this laptop yesterday and am looking forward to it when it comes next week. Will the clean install thread that pertains to the JH series still work with the JW series? First thing I am doing is a clean install after the recovery disc when it gets here.
Cheers. -

Quadzilla,

Definitely considering getting my G73 through them.

I was wondering how the new 260.63 beta driver was working. I know Quad was using it, I,m not sure about Ken@gentech. Alot of people are having problems on the Nvidia user forums(as always...Lol
). Any problems with increased temps or games crashing and whatnot. Thanks

How about Sandy Bridge CPUs? I have been reading about them, and it seems like those CPUs are beast. They should be coming out soon, anyone is thinking of waiting for the brand new CPUs?
-
this yr or next ?
Also wondering which is a better Buy
Sager NP 8850 or Asus G73 JW ?
want to get a laptop with no STUTTER please -
ASUS WiCAST -
Yes!! As of 11:07 EST, it appears that UPS has delivered my G73 to my apartment complex!
The sucky part is that I have to go away for the weekend this evening, and won't really get to play with it now until Monday evening. Argh!!
At least I can pick up some cellophane this weekend for the keyboard mod.
-
next few months or Next year ?
Thanks -
Sager 8850 is a lot more expensive, but it has 480M, which is the best mobile GPU at this time. But there is no review of Sager products anywhere I looked for. For Asus G73JW, it has 460M GPU, it's a lot cheaper. There are reviews for Asus G73JW (don't look for G73JH) on youtube and other websites as well.
It all depends on your preference, if you want the best GPU yet and don't care about money, maybe Sager is good for you. I don't think the performance difference between 460M and 480M is worth the difference in price. -

Just ordered a G73JW-A1 from GenTech this morning to replace my W2W-A1to be handed over to my better half to become a desktop free household.
I've been quite happy with it even more so after moving to Windows 7. It's been a good machine. I'm not a hard core gamer, more of a legacy game guy (I suck at games) and a Tomb Raider addict. I'm sure this will work just fine for me. Gaming is not to be the primary function which I'm certain is the case for many who have ordered this machine.
I do have to say that I prefer NVIDIA over ATI but respect the nuances of each.
It was disappointing to hear about WIDI but "C'est la vie". -
too bad sager warranty kinda sux, it is only 1 year and not international
-
-
I just received my JW from GenTech PC. Can I get a w00t w00t? What a beautiful piece of machinery.
-
Congrats Avjunky .. It is a beautiful machine for sure .
-
This beast is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with! -
-
Thanks guys. I'm so happy with my lappy. I own a Dell, HP, Sony, Lenovo and now an Asus and this is by far my favorite laptop already. It wreaks of quality.
-
Do you guys are satisfied of the nvidia video card so far ?
-
I just pulled the trigger a few hours ago on Amazon (overnight shipping for $3.99 with Prime), will be here Monday or Tuesday. I was going to order from Ken @ GenTech (seems like a great guy) but it sounds like they are a couple days backed up and I wouldn't get the cheap shipping Amazon offers. Amazon has always given me amazing service when I need to return things (including laptops).
-
I should re-phrase. I wouldn't get the cheap overnight shipping that Amazon offers. Ken does offer free ground and a bit cheaper price. A great deal if your not as impatient as I am.
-
Where did you guys get the 260.63 drivers from? I downloaded the ones from here:
NVIDIA - Download Drivers
but when I start the setup and it does the system check it says that it cannot continue because the graphics driver could not find compatible hardware. I'm I missing something? -
Here ya go..
NVIDIA DRIVERS 260.63 BETA -
-
bah... I just discovered that you add rep through that icon below. I've been wondering what all the "I'll add rep" talk is all about
-
.
-
The biggest pluses for me with this card is it is stable, runs cool, at least in the G73, and I was able to update to a beta driver without causing the card to "freak out."
Asus G73JW at GenTech for 1645$
