You also don't get the backpack and mouse.
-
That is true about the backpack and mouse, that is where part of the saving comes from.
LazarusX2 I bought the ASUS G73JW-XT1 from Tigerdirect for $1499.99. The only differences being the hard drive space, which is 500gb, being 1 hard drive instead of two. That being said you then dont have a second hard drive mount installed, if you dont need/want a second hard drive then you are fine.
The model I have came standard with bluray/DVDRW. I would highly recommend going with this model if you want to save yourself some money and dont need/want the "free extras" and hard drive space.
Now, the reason for needing to post in the first place, I live in the UK and got the laptop shipped from the US as it is way cheaper and is not out in the UK. I also have the lagging keyboard issue, which I have fixed from the BIOS but I have another issue. I see people have had problems with the speakers, my problem is not with the speakers but the left part of the laptop/keypad. There is a lot of flex around Caps, Shift, Ctrl, Z. And if these keys pressed too hard, as well as the plastic on the left of the keys there is a weird squeak. Now that doesnt bother me too much, but when calling people on skype, due to the frequency of the ringing sound it creates a rattling sound until I apply a small amount of palm pressure on the left of the laptop.
I do find this strange, but do not think it is worth sending back about. I would like to know if anyone else is having this issue or feels that the left side of the laptop is fairly weak? I understand that this is where the bluray rom is, but it should be sturdier than this?? -

I placed my order yesterday on GenTech PC, hopefully I'll get mine before December starts

So if you get say the XT-1 version with only one hard drive what big downside of getting something like a USB 3.0 external hard drive like this one? Amazon.com: Buffalo Technology DriveStation 1 TB SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive with TurboUSB HD-HX1.0TU3: Electronics
Data transfer rates should be comparable with SATA right? Portability would be the biggest issue? -

After that is all said and done, wouldn't getting the A1 version with the internal 2nd hard drive be about the same cost, and much more convenient?
That thing is not only huge, but it weighs 4 pounds. An internal HDD weighs about a quarter of a pound. -
I bought the A1, no regrets. I love the mouse and the backpack which is actually made by Targus btw, fits great.

Hello:
I need some help before purchasing an Asus G73JW, I currently have an old desktop that is slowly dying and I want to replace it with a new laptop.
My question is in regards the monitor which is a Dell 30" 3007WFP @ 2560x1600; can the G73GW use the monitor via an HDMI to Dual Link DVI converter? I would like to use it at 2560x1600.
The only answers I've found are related to the Asus G73JH, and the answer is no as the video card will not display more than 1280x800 from what I've found out.
My purchase is pending on this as I really would like to keep the 30" monitor.
Thank you! -
However, it says that the 360m supports 2048x1536 in the same link, so the newer 460m in the G73JW should support that resolution at least. I'm not sure if you can compare it to the 480m that can support up to 2560x1600.
By the way, the G73JH should at least support 1920x1080 which is the screen rsolution. -

When you have the i7 Quad Core processor that has its own TurboBoost you shouldn't use the ASUS Turbo button because Intel's is better...and they can conflict causing lower performance.
-
Edit: fixed my problem. Note: deleting the gpu in the device manager does not accomplish the same thing as uninstalling the drivers, even if you click the box that says to uninstall the drivers. At least my computer is back to being perfect.

I've been playing most games at the highest settings with fps in the 50s or 60s. Check the post here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...asus-g73jw-owners-lounge-104.html#post6907112 . Someone just reported what they're geting in a lot of games. I also have a list of things you can do when you get your new laptop here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...-asus-g73jw-owners-lounge-96.html#post6889800 -
does anyone has an issue of the G73 randomly force shutdown? (similar to cutting off power except the power cables are set up correctly)
I was only using messenger, chrome and ttplayer (music).
wonder if it is related to window 7 or something else
happen only once in a month or so -
Hey guys I was just playing the latest Need for speed hot pursuit on g73jw a1 and I noticed the game did not regonize quad core. only one core was maxed at 100%. Is this normal?

Thought I fixed whatever was wrong with mine yesterday by uninstalling/reinstalling the graphics drivers, but now I'm getting BSOD with a machine check exception. Starting to get frustrated.

Will this Intel 6200 Wifi Card work with the ASUS G73Jw?
-
If you searched the forum, you would find many users use the 6200 here.

Yes, they work fine. We install them for our customers regularly.

Hi! After using my G73 happily for two days, it shut itself down and didn't power up for ten minutes or so. Yes, as you guessed i have the same think in my mind - famous Asus GPU overheat issue! Now it is working well, but i ordered my Zalman 3000 just in case.
-
Do you have the idle temp and furmark temp?
laptop cooler is not the most ideal solution if you are getting high temperatures while idle. -

@morikante your G73 didn't happen to turn off just as you plugged in a USB device, did it? Do you see anything in your event log?
-
Hi guys! I was gaming SC2 for about 6-7 hours easy. Maybe ecause of that, i don't know. I had usb external hd connected, but i believe i unplugged it before i started the game. Even so, is it no mal for the laptop to shut itself down suddenly and not power up for ten, fifteen minutes? Now i am also playing SC2 for 2 hours already, when i am in the game it shows between 65-75 degrees. And 65-75 fps in 3v3 for example.
-
but i guess yours is different to mine because i can immediately power it back on.
looking at your temperature, it is completely fine, 75 is great as 80mid to 90 is the danger zone.
I think you may have a faulty ram but I am no expert.
try to gather more info and see if you can reproduce the scenario in the same condition (say try another game for 5 hours)
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Actually mid 80's and low 90's are to be expected when pushing it hard. The "danger" zone is when it reaches about 111 Celsius when it will shut down...anything before that is fine.
Don't stir up worry when there is nothing to worry about. Even if it hits 111 and shuts down, it is just protecting itself because it can actually go higher without damage. If it were otherwise the shutdown point would have been set lower. -
Hey guys, just got my asus g73 jw from amazon. I just removed bloatware so far and installing the nvidia drivers. Should I still do the bios update? No problem so far so I'm wondering
-
anyhow, this shows your temperature is beyond great -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It has an automatic shut down that will trip prior to it causing any permanent damage...that is exactly what it is engineered to do.
-
mine shuts down even when it's not overheating, but i suspect it's the unstable overclocked values thats causing it. I haven't experience any shutdowns with a more stable OC speed.
-
most often as you pointed out, the extreme high temperature would just shut down the laptop but a consistent high temperature would also cause hardware or maybe i just remembered wrongly? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Well, even if that is what you read somewhere...just keep in mind to consider the source.
Then, ask yourself why the engineers would make 111 degrees Celsius the cut off point if averaging 85-90 degrees for a few hours would hurt it.
The design engineers expect the cards to be run for hours at a time while gaming and all other purposes. Therefore the cards are engineered to be able to run for hours at a time at anything under 111 degrees with no harm to the card.
Just think about how hot an automobile's engine runs for hours at a time. Its cooling system is engineered to allow it to get just so hot and no more, and they last for 10's and 100's of thousands of miles. Your video card has similar design considerations.
So, be careful about believing someone's "opinion" when they are not an engineer and have no basis in fact, or common sense, for the conclusion they reach. -
-
ps : I've also replaced the hdd with a ssd sandforce, i don't know if it's possible that can be a connection with the problem.
And sorry for my poor english ;( -
i can game for 10+ hours and not seen any shutdowns. -
In page 55 in this thread i've see that you have make this reply :
i've set my min CPU to 5% during high performance and updated to the 260.89 drivers, been playin for 3 hours, so far so good. Temps aren't all that different.
I will test with this configuration. -

Hey guys,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I've been experiencing this weird speaker popping sound. It happens most often if the speakers have been inactive for a short length of time, and then some audio starts playing. (E.g. click a directory, start a game, etc.)
When I first got the laptop, I had this issue out of the box. I did a fresh install of Windows, and I didn't install the Creative software from the Utility disc (I read in the Windows installation thread here that the Creative software can cause problems, but that may have only applied to the JH).
After installing all the drivers I needed from the disc, I started getting popping again. So I did a fresh install of Windows, and this time I added the Creative software, and then upgraded a) the Creative package from the G73JW product page on the Asus website, and b) the Realtek drivers from the G53JW product page on the Asus site.
Still got popping.
So then I scoured the threads here for a solution, and I found that opening msconfig, and disabling the Realtek HD Audio Manager from the Startup tab completely stopped the speaker popping.
So if I start the computer, and Realtek HD Audio Manager does not run, I get no speaker popping. As soon as Realtek HD Audio Manager runs, speaker popping starts again, and I have to reboot to shut that program down.
So my questions are:
1) What is Realtek HD Audio Manager good for? Does having it disabled impact the quality of my sound?
2) Do I need the Creative software from the utilities disc? I've found it to be completely useless - Creative EAX Desktop Gadget, THX TruStudio Settings, and Creative ALchemy. Can't find any utility in any of those applications. Am I missing something?
3) Is it possible to control the subwoofer separate from the main speakers? If I click Start->Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Sound, I only have two devices listed: Speakers and Realtek Digital Audio Output, both using the Realtek High Definition Audio driver. I can't find any mention of the subwoofer in either the Realtek HD Audio Manager, or the Creative stuff.
4) What are the most up-to-date audio drivers for the G73JW? I used the ones here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
Essentially what I think I'm gonna do at this point is reinstall Windows (just uninstalling the Creative stuff leaves so much behind), and just install the Realtek Audio drivers from the Utility disc, and then promptly upgrade those from the G53 product page, and then disable Realtek HD Audio Manager in msconfig.
But if anyone has a better solution and/or can answer any of my questions, I would really, really appreciate it! -
Also, the Creative software you have is the latest version, and you should not have any issues with it. The JH users have an old version from the XP days, and has some issues under Win 7. -
i need some help, for some reason when i tried installing the drivers for the nvidia chip, it said it did not have the correct hardware....
and i was trying to install the 260.99 update -
There's a 261.14(?) update available now, check ASUS' Republic of Gamers website.

Since my last post the laptop never shut itself down again.I also bought Zalman 3000U.Now the temps are around 40 in idle or on internet and 63-65 when gaming.
I have a question: i was having between 65-75 FPS in 3v3 and 4v4 in high settings with Starcraft 2 only until a couple of days ago. Since last two or three days i have as high as 50 and as low as 1-2FPS-in attack and in 2v2 only although i didnt change settings or resolution or i didn''t OC (i don't anyways). Do you guys know if any new patch came out for Starcraft2 within a week or so and that might be the problem? Because i think the graphics card is OK. Thanks a lot! -
thanks for that info guys, another question i have is what is are the sweet spots for OC the Video card atm?
-
I've noticed I can O/C this card very well, but it tends to stutter when I do.
800/1100 is easly acheivable for me, however; as I said. It stutters really bad. -
-
820/1640/1420???
I can only set the two with the GPUClock tool from guru3d.
I doubt I could obtain 820/1420 let alone 820/1640?
