Hi, I'm new here... I traded my HP EliteBook 8540w for a G73JH-X1 but unfortunately, the guy didn't give me the original AC adapter for the laptop, I couldn't get the original thing to buy here in Ghana, Africa... I ordered it, but it seemed it was going to take a while to get to me so I modded an old charger I had to work with the laptop... The charger I modded was 150W, 19v, 7.9amps..
But the laptop was still not charging. So I used it always without the battery...
Now with the back story laid out...
My problem...
Some days ago, there was a little power spike, it took out my external hard drive case's board (It started displaying unknown device) and My G73JH-X1 also went off... In the beginning I suspected the charger, but after several tries of different chargers, all proved futile... So I started suspecting that the main board was dead...
I tore the laptop open and after a bit of tinkering i realised that the board wasn't entirely dead, this was cos while opened i reconnected everything and stuck the charger in, just then, the fans started spinning and the CAPS-Lock and Num-Lock lights came on but the power button was still not turning the laptop on.
Now I'm left with a "dead" G73JH-X1...
Can anyone help me revive it???
I need help badly.

Have you tried removing the battery and AC power and let it sit for a minute?

G73JW-A1 Question/Favor
Appreciate if someone would try the following and report back their findings. I don't want to prejudice the answer with my own observation just yet.
Place a metal paper clip on the EAX 5.0 sticker and let go. Standard small wire size paper clip.
Thanks... -

it is not the logo that is magnetic it is the subwoofer under it. i think that is what you were getting at -
I mentioned the sticker only to demonstrate the paper clip jumping down to the magnetic field. I wasn't sure if speaker or h/d. Probably not the h/d as the top faces down.
No biggie, merely interesting.

Hi, i am thinking to buy it but i have a doubt, anybody know which is the output resolution from hdmi port? I have a 27" monitor Dell with 2,560 x 1,440 resolution and i dont know if this is compatible! Another question it is possible use a 2 external monitor or one monitor and one tv? Thank you do much in advance

Depends on what the Dell HDMI port will support.

Wouldn't the colored paper melt under the 80C loads we usually get?

Hi folks, please excuse me if this question has been asked ad infinitum, but I have a G73JW with a GTX460M. My screen is obviously not a 3d monitor in this model, but I'm wondering if I purchase a 3d monitor and nvidia's 3d glasses, can I output via HDMI from my laptop to the 3d monitor and use the 3d features of the card? My laptop's screen has developed a couple of dead pixels recently so I'm more inclined to get a new monitor for it anyway, just wondering if I can go the 3d route. Thanks so much in advance!

You can use an external 3D monitor/TV, or upgrade your panel to a 120Hz model. Then get a set of glasses and emitter, and you'd be set.

hi i bought a used g73, i was told that the power adapter port that you plug the power cord into is broken but i pluged a different cord into it and it started charging, currently it has no ram in it so my question is will it turn on without ram, when i try right now it will flicker on but go off,

No computer will POST without any RAM, so the answer to your question is negative.

Good day madam and sirs. This is my first post here!
I've been having a problem with my ASUS g73jw lately specifically with the gpu. Let me say that I have the current asus driver release. My problem is this:
My driver becomes unresponsive if I do most anything involving graphic acceleration, even youtube can cause it to fail. When I play movies in VLC sometime the video is blank with green spots or the video will play but still with those blinking green spots. Forget playing a game. It stutters and blinks with artifacts galore. So every time the driver becomes unresponsive but usually seems to recover, only to fail the next time i mildly tax the gpu.
This seems to happen more when I leave the computer on for long hours, but the temperature reads a chilly 40c-49c. I'm afraid my gpu might be shot in which case I suppose I should take up a RMA.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm happy to provide any information if it would be helpful. -
A couple questions about the Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR implementation (specs) on the JW.
1. Does it support A2DP?
2. If it does support A2DP... does it also support apt-X?
3. If not, can these features be added using a different BT software stack/driver or do these (A2DP and apt-X) need to be implemented in hardware. -
I hope this thread isn't dead given that my last last question got no reply.
I have another question regarding the NVIDIA drivers on my G73JW. I tried using the search function to find an answer, but it's not working.
The last time I updated the NVIDIA driver in this laptop I used version 265.66 WHQL which I downloaded from the drivers thread in this forum (Chastity's thread) This resulted in NVIDIA driver version 8.17.12.6566 as I look at the driver properties. Now Liveupdate is displaying a message asking me to update to NVIDIA driver version 8.17.12.9616. I have not been keeping up with the latest and greatest updates and I don't even remember what the two different series of numbers for the drivers mean. The latest driver that I see in the Chastity thread is a driver 285.62 WHQL, but I don't know what's the resulting "NVIDIA" version after this driver is installed. Is the driver in the Chastity thread Newer/Better than the version that LiveUpdate is suggesting?... Also, long ago, I remember reading that using LiveUpdate to update drivers was not recommended... is this still the case when using LiveUpdate version 2.5.9? -
Hi,
I don't know about your first question
You should disable or uninstall LiveUpdate, and make all updates by your own.
I run actually 296.10 from Nvidia, and 301.42 are just coming.
You should try. -
Thanks... I installed 301.42 (Verde) and appears to be working fine in my G73JW. It shows as 8.17.13.142 under driver properties which is a later version than what LiveUpdate was suggesting.

Is the ASUSDVD software for playing blu-ray disks still available somewhere for download? I tried on the ASUS support site, but I could not find the link for ASUSDVD. Thanks.

Hello guys! I hope this is the correct thread to post this.
I have a G73JW and am now experiencing what I think are overheating problems.
Background: A while ago I noticed the laptop was really hot when playing games, and I bought a cooling pad. It helped A LOT. Yet, 1 week ago, I started to notice something was wrong when I found some kind of lag when watching some youtube videos or playing even team fortress 2 with the lowest graphics options. I notice some kind of temporary stops. As in, a 1-2 sec stops with looping sounds, that then resume as if nothing was wrong.
I updated all drivers. Yet, to no benefit.
I then thought that I should have a lot of processes stealing some memory. Since it had been some time since my last format, I formatted my laptop. Yet, this was to no avail, and I still experience these looping sounds and temporary stops. Not as much during regular browsing, but more during gaming.
What I find now:Regular processor temperatures are around 60-70ºC, GPU around 50-60ºC. When I play any computer game (even team fortress 2 with lowest graphics options), the processor goes almost to 100ºC. This isn't normal is it?
My question: What can I do about this? I'm thinking of buying a can of air, and cleaning the vents from the outside. I am also thinking of opening the bottom lid, and using the air can there. Do you guys think this might help? I confess that dust may be an issue, given that I occasionally let it on my sofa or bed..
I dont want to void the warranty, but I dont want to RMA the laptop.. Only as a last resort. What is your advice guys?
Thanks for all the help -
Take the laptop apart and clean it. Repasting also helps but that would void the warranty. Simply separating the case I don't think has any warranty voiding stickers etc on it and allows you to take the fans out to thoroughly clean them and with them out you can also thoroughly clean the heatsinks without removing them.
