Interesting, others reported that WinFlash didn't flash it succesfully, was everything ok during your flashing?
Also, do you guys have a tip why is it 2x larger then other G73bios?
update: ah, l2read...BSOD? Nice![]()
Also, what does Everest/HWInfo say about the BIOS? Maybe the reason it's not public yet is because they are making a new Winflash for it...
-
-
With an hexeditor like HxD, but i have not flashed it.
-
Well im glad asus is at least trying to test some new bios's.
Honestly my laptop is rock solid with the stock 209 bios and the stock video driver.
Any other ATI driver I use I will get the GSOD.
If they can allow us to update to the latests ATI drivers and still keep that solid feeling of the asus stock video driver. I will be one happy g73 owner lol -
Can you check what can Everest/HWInfo read about the bios?
-
Here is the full report:
G73JH HWinfo
Update:
Got reply from Asus regarding the BIOS 211 change log:
The only change in BIOS 211 is
change threshold of the "Fan Full Run" setting for VGA device from 69 to
76. -
So in short, still far away from a GSOD fix -_-
But the question still stands, why is it 2x larger if they only changed this 1 value? -
So it will take more heat to cause it to full speed? How ... meh.
-
but we still don't know what they changed in version 210
-
That is strange since mine doesn't hit full speed until temp reaches 96 and that is on bios 209.
-
Yeah i dont understand that one at all since alot of the cards run hotter then they should...
Maybe though since some people idle near 70 they didnt want the fans running full blast all the time.... I never found my past G73 to be that loud though even at full blast it was still quiet in comparison to many other machines i have owned ... -
Maybe that was from bios 210
What is also weird is on the german forum where the asus tech was responding he said that they changed the vbios in 211. -
Maybe the BIOS should detect if Furmark is running, and go 100%
-
I just meant that you have been known to be adventurous when it comes to improving the performance of a G73.
-
I'm thinking that Asus will release a new Winflash utlity too for the new BIOS and the reason why Ken got BSOD is because when the Winflash got to the new vBIOS flash part, it failed.
I don't have any more idea for the large size+Winflash failure:/ -
Or better yet make it so the machine will not run Furmark at all ...
G73JH Bios version HellCry...
Changelog: Blocked using Furmark on the G73JH ..
..
-
I'm just not the type to let fear keep me away from making this laptop do my bidding. So what if I break something! Who cares if the damn thing GSODs at will! Dammit, I will torture it fiercely until it confesses! I CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH!
PS: Wow! That came out sounding like a rant from the SubGenius.
-
Its certainly possible it would need a newer version of Winflash to address that portion of the bios .... To bad using Winflash stinks
...
-
Has to be unless the asus tech was lying.
-
hmm, I wonder if BIOS 210 have any changes to EZFlash (prepairing it to detect BIOS 211)...
-
GenTechPC could check to see if bios 211 ez flash detects the file and updates the video.
-
EZFlash does not defect BIOS 211.
-
Sounds like a job for Ken to test since he probably has the equipment to fix a bad flash.
I really dont feel like flashing anything from Windows. Just dont trust winflash.
And just let them try taking my precious Furmark away...
-
You mean BIOS 210's EZFlash
-
Ken, can you try flashing to 210 first and than try if ezflash recognises the 211 one?
Or try splitting the file and see if you can get any vBios out of it if you know how... or ask jochenf to post what he splitted? -
He ment to check again after updating to BIOS 210. You can find a link to it here. Maybe 210's EZFlash has been prepared for BIOS 211.
-
Asus want me to try WinFlash 2.30.2 since 2.30.1 can not complete BIOS flash, I am doing it right now.

Hmmmm, don't like that. That will mean we can not flash the new BIOS via EZFlash.
-
I would think they would not do that. They would release another one with a modified EZFlash. Hmm.... this 210 starting to become more clear?!!
-
I just want an update from Ken on whether it works with WinFlash 2.30.2! I ain't skeeered. I'll WinFlash the crap outa this thing!
-
VBIOS still the same after using WinFlash 2.30.2 and 2.30.3, nothing change.
Also please don't use WinFlash 2.30.2 or 2.30.3 to flash BIOS 211, it'll go into the loop of erasing BIOS flash BIOS non stop, very danger. -
damm
Could you please give a last try with BIOS 210's EZFlash? -
Ok, doing that right now.
-
Nice! Thanks for the testing
If 210's EZFlash is a nono too, then I wonder what Asus uses ... -
Tested, BIOS 210 does not change EZFlash, still won't see BIOS 211.
-
What good is this bios than... i really dont get it. A placebo so they can say they are doing something?
-
Than I'm out of ideas
-
Sounds like more waiting from ASUS lol
-
Yeah I dont get it either, they said that they made a vbios change. And why would they release them if they dont help with anything.
-
This may not even be a proper G73 BIOS. Somebody may have taken an ASUS BIOS for some desktop motherboard and renamed it just to see if they could get us to flash our brains out.
Some people can't look at an ant bed without picking up a stick and poking it. -
Hmm... now everyone of us goes through a "upgrade" dilema. Bios 210 on EZ, or 211 on Winflash or wait.
-
Technically it's not released to end-users yet!
-
True but then why give it to certain people. Either way thanks for trying.
-
This isn't an user-made bios, it's from the Asus service portal.
-
Dont get me wrong, thank you for your hard work.
Its Asus i have a grudge with. -
You should really thank Ken from GenTech, he did most of the work
-
Apparently it's the lower, backend portal that's supplying this.
I would just sit tight and wait. Apparently they have something in mind, and I bet it's devious!
