Asus is screwing with us... Which they would recall all the G73's and change to nvidia cards instead. I do love ati but to have cuda features would be really lovely.

That will never happen, it would cost too much for Asus.
Few years ago when MS recalled x-box 360s because of the failty GPU, it costed them $1 billion. If there are only 1/5 of G73s outthere than x-box360s, it would still cost $200 million for Asus. While there is even a slight chance to fix it with software, they will not recall it.

Speaking of xbox my 360 just gave in on me, the red ring of death. Now i have the whole 360 ripped apart.. Hopefully changing the paste will fix it for me.

Red ring of death? I think MS will still change if free, even if it's out of warranty.

Nah no point its a modified set that has already been voided. I've had it for many years now. Well back to topic, i don't think a bios fix will solve our gsod's problem. I would think only a vbios would fix it up for us. And how hard can it be for asus to come up with a vbios.

nVidia would make me much happier in regards to running Linux on it. ATI SUCKS for their Linux support and have for quite awhile. nVidia however has always been right up there for supporting it and WORKING with the various flavors as far as I have seen/experienced. I just hope they get this resolved so that everyone in here can go back to enjoying this nice laptop, for the money it's pretty slick. I wish it had some other stuff, eSata port and/or FW port, my display able to do 1920x1080 (add another $150 to cost and I could have gotten that but BB doesn't sell one with that and I avoided the Vaio cuzz it had same resolution (but has BD-Rom, bigger HDD and slightly faster/newer quad CPU...but uses the GT330M video card = DX 10.1 support only and a smaller screen 16.4" for ~$150 more)

So, let me get this straight, it's possible a new BIOS update will fix the GSOD issue? I'm confused. =S

I think it won't. As HellCry said only vbios can do it. New VGA driver release from Asus also should help.

As Ken said earlier Asus confirmed, that they will send message to their HQ about updating drivers on official site. So, let's hope and wait. At least things are moving from dead point now. I am sure there will be new vbios release.

haha, didn't ken say that asus told ati to work on some new drivers? Of course I don't like this solution because like hellcry said, it's only a temporary fix not permanent.....and I'm going to doubt that ati would release an asus version every time. Then we're stuck in hell loophole again.....

assuming that Asus is indeed including a vbios with the 211 update. I say this because so far, all the info they have divulged suggests that it only alters fan speed and nothing else, so I hope people don't get their hopes up. They are likely working separately on releasing the 10.5 drivers later on...apparently.

I am pretty sure it does not check the version unlike many claim, but the signature (magic number/header) and the checksum which is in the header as well, and if it does not detect t it means that it probably has a bad checksum/header

Just checked German Asus G73 forum page and found that couple of people reporting that they updated to 211 bios. They said that with ATI 10.7a they have 0 issues.

He sad that with this new BIOS the VGA temps did not change and he also sad that Bad Company 2 runs without GSOD on 10.6 and 10.7.
From another source Asus Germany sad that it has a new vBIOS, with unlocked Overdrive and changed clocks.

I used the XVI32, but use the file youre going to paste back together only for informative purposes, since i dont think it would be wise to rely on that editor completely and just flash a file thats been split and than pasted back together. Not to mention i always doubt how well these upload sites work since i once got a corrupted file off megaupload.

So its only the bios file, you didnt get any seperate vBios file with it?
I really dont care about any changed fan settings right now if thats all it is, especially if they make the fans spin up at a higher temperature... Want a solution to the darn GSOD issues Asus! Stop jerking us around!

And thanks for the regular updates DRevan, i know you put some effort into this, im just pissed Asus is releasing such a pointless thing when they should have released a solution for the GSOD issues long ago already and now this...
