You can use double sided tape or velcro, or you can purchase a caddy from Asus, but they are out of stock right now.

I ordered on Friday...they called me to confirm on Saturday and warn that there might be a 5-7 day back-order.

Got email shipping confirmation today (Sunday), shipping Monday and I paid for overnight so I will get it Tuesday unless something goes wrong

Dang... I walked into my local MicroCenters yesterday, they had 2 in stock and I snagged one of them.... $1499

One thing I found when creating the Recovery Disks. It initially says you need 5 DVD for burning.... you actually need 6.

This rig is absolutely sick... () hot fast.....

Did it say 1333 MHz on the box? Where in Windows 7 can you see the speed of the RAM?

At a later date, can you put a 2nd card in and run crossfire? Or are these things maxed out as they are?

Also how easy is a cpu upgrade to the extreme version? (again, later date)

    stock 3dmark06 is a little over 12k, vantage around 9k i think?

Check the benchmark thread for specifics...mandrake is pushing 17k on 06 i think

w00t, was able to snag an X2 at Microcenter this weekend as an impulse purchase. This thing kicks a$$! Seriously, the only thing I don't like about it is I have to wait on getting a harddrive caddy for the second drive slot.

Haven't had any of the reported issues other people are seeing :)

Keyboard works just fine, the touchpad is responsive, and after installing the following 3rd party driver I can use it like the MacBook Pro :)

    http://code.google.com/p/two-finger-scroll/

I haven't checked on the memory speed, but I think it might be 1333MHz. Will be checking tonite :)

Played about 3 hours of Torchlight and about an hour of COD:MW2 with absolutely no ticks or slow downs at maximum res/settings :)

Just ordered one from Microcenter; they said the estimated shipping date is 3/8. What the hell do they have to do that takes a week to ship? Seems odd.

They just called to confirm my order from last night (3/8 also "estimated" shipping date). I ordered 2 of them (one for me and one for brother) and I plan to pick the one that overclocks better ;)

The lady told me they have 3 shipping centers, and that there was a chance it would be backordered, and that it would ship out overnight as soon as it does ship. I am at work, at my desk so I didn’t feel like arguing about it in front of my coworkers. I think since many of us know that they have some in stores that we assume they have them in stock in the warehouse, and that doesn’t appear to be so. I don’t think it’s common practice to ship from a store location, maybe that is why it takes a few days. Maybe they ship “excess” stock back to the main warehouses then they ship them out to us?

I am tempted to call back and ask if I can change to pickup, drive to Colorado tomorrow and pick it up. Cost wise it would be a wash, and I’d basically make a mini vacation out of it for me and my brother.

You are my only hope that maybe it will ship out sooner. You ordered Friday and shipped out today, so I'm hoping that since I ordered Sunday that mine may ship out tomorrow or Wednesday.

    Edit:
Dang it! Backorder! Just got two emails, one for each saying it is on backorder. I need to decide quick if I want to drive to get them, cancel the order and wait for newegg etc to get them in, or wait for Microcenter to ship.

    Edit 2:
Well I'm not doing in store pickup because of the $231 in tax I would have to pay. It's either cancel or wait it out. Guess I will see what the supervisor that is supposed to call me back says tomorrow and make a decision then.

I would be willing to bet you will see a "backorder" email shortly as you ordered a day after me. Although the guy told me that ordering 2 at once may have pushed me back further as it's easier to fill single orders.

Kinda confused, You ordered it online and they didn't charge sales tax? I'm assuming your going over the border to get it? And that there isn't a microcenter in your area?

I was in the same boat. I live in Central New York, I tried to order it from Microcenter last week, only to find out there is a microcenter in NYC(which isn't remotely close to anywhere near me) so I get plagued with the $200 extra in sales tax. And the closest store to me is 300+ miles away.

Correct, I will not be charged tax if my order goes through. I live in Nebraska and the closest store was Kansas City(sold out) and then Denver(they had 2 but then I realized I forgot about the sales tax).

I am no tax expert and this probably isn't exactly true but close enough for me :) States that have a retail store can (and have to) collect sales tax for the state that it is in, if there is no retail outlet or are just not setup for it they do not charge the tax. You are supposed to "self assess" the tax and pay it in each year, but many people do not do that since there is no easy way to regulate and enforce it. That is why over the years you can save tons of money buying online by paying both lower prices and by not paying sales tax.

I have searched google and cannot find a way to increase the logon screen's resolution. On windows 7. Any help much appreciated....

Yea so I am so pissed off right now. I ordered last Wednesday and got an email today saying that it was back ordered. I am so pissed. I am waiting for a confirmation tomorrow as to when the back orders will be shipped. I was told there was plenty in stock when i ordered but of course microcenter and there screwed up system. I some how got skipped if some of you ordered on friday and already have a shipping number. I got screwed.

It seems most retailers are expecting new shipments this week, so I'd just stick with microcenter. They are not backordered nearly as far as xotic, powernotebook etc.

And mine came with 1333 ram as well :)

I did not hear from them even though they primised to call me today. I called this evening and asked again, and they still knew nothing about when they could possibly get any in so I canceled. Oh well, I really wanted the A1 more anyway so I don't have to worry about the lack of a hard drive caddy or what backpack to get. Only downside is it probably will only have 1066 memory and it seems like many of the early order had the 1333.

I'm no tax expert and this post will be proof of that. ;)

While I often avoid stores that charge internet tax, and maybe it depends on the state you live in, locally when we have stuff delivered they charge us the destination tax, which is lower.

Is it possible to have them charge you the lower tax between the shipping location and where you live? Or, is that just the cost of doing business with automated electronic shopping carts?

It's not so much Internet store. As if a store has a location in your state, they have to charge anyone buying from the same state Tax.

I honestly don't think it should be by state, but maybe county or something with a smaller radius. Now I'm not economic hero so, I know there are reasons for this. However at the same time, that's one less sale a business gets because of the already high sales tax in NY.

You guys do know that you still have to pay taxes on items bought on the internet when you do your taxes? No one does because it's too hard to regulate and keep track of.

So is the only difference between the x2 and a2 is the x2 is missing the second hard drive? Are there any other differences in specs? Does this come with the 2 year global and 1 year accidental warranty from asus? Thanks in advance.

x2 has bluray driver, what for me is VERY important, and if you think the x2 is a much better deal than the x1.The x1 was $1429 right? So you take the x2 with blu-ray driver for $70 more, with $70 dollars you can but i bluray driver in your x1 but it is not going to be the right one and you will have to use your hand when you can just buy it with it...

Just returned from my local Micro Center where I picked up my X2. The manager came out and thanked me personally. I was like whoa, um, okay thanks. She wasn't bad lookin either. I would have hit it. It appeared that I got the last one. I am almost scared to unbox it, but I'll summon the courage eventually.

I once drove four hours, round trip, from Virginia to West Virginia for a copy of the NES version of Mario Bros. on the Game Boy Advanced. It was $90+ on eBay at the time. Found it at Gamestop for $12.99 and the only copy within 200 miles of my area. I win. I think...
