I have known about my yearly bonus and how much I was getting for about three months now. It will be paid out with my regular paycheck next Friday, and with it I will buy a laptop to replace my seven year old dinosaur. I decided to look at see what was available in the commercial sector for around $1,500 which is the maximum I wanted to spend. Well low and behold I found this little beauty at my local Microcenter in Richardson, TX on Microcenter's website. I called them to confirm they had them in stock, and they told me they got five today and sold one in the same day! I wonder if it was one of you people?

All I know is I don't care where you buy your G73jh-x2 but stay away from my local Microcenter. They can only hold the laptop for 24 hours but that is not enough time, so there better be one available next Friday when I get paid or I am going to go through the f@cking roof! You get these gaming nerds who camp out at stores like this and buy a new model every six months or whatever the minute they hit the stores and prevent people like myself who really need a new laptop (the hard drive in this seven year old Toshiba Satellite is failing) from being able to buy one. The girl I was talking to actually told me she was the one who sold it and when I asked her to who she said some kid who was buying it with a couple of games. How the hell does a kid get $1,500 to spend on a laptop, man how times have changed since I was a teenager. Anway, go buy yours someplace else!

So while much of this post is tongue in cheek I really am going to be super pissed if they are sold out by next Friday.

Keeping with the tongue in cheek....aren't the kids down there more interested in rodeos and cowboy boots than computers?

    BTW, good luck.

dgs4 - I could loan you the money for yours for a week, and then have you buy mine for me also and mail it to me :D (only if there was a way to make that work  )

Heh thanks. I did unbox it and I cannot believe how amazing this screen is! I might only be coming from an HP DV7 but this is the nicest screen on a lap top I have ever seen. For one app the screen went black and the color of the screen was - BLACK! Love the design as well.

Well xoticpc site states that Asus would be getting a shipment today with official shipments to distributors arriving on the 4th, 11th, 24th and the 30th. I would assume Amazon will be getting them on the same day, but who knows 1) how many they're getting 2) what kind of pre-order backlog they have. Also they don't have the x2, they only have the A2 (dual 500GB hdds and BluRay disk drive).

yeah the screen is easily the best laptop screen i have used. It's not quite the plasma but nice to watch movies etc on it and actually have the parts that are supposed to be black in black instead of dark gray

    There are four models:

    x1:500gb, dvd burner
    x2: 500 gb, blue ray
    A2:1tb, dvd burner
    a1:1 tb, blue ray.

I am calling microcenter today to get an extension on my purchase as the guy I spoke with said they can do that, it is at the managers desecration.

Mailed Amazon, They replied that they had received some stock which was sent out to pre-order customers, back on pre-order again :/
No word on when next shipment comes or how long the pre-order queue is..

Ah yes, previously only the A2 was listed as "ships from and sold by Amazon", but now they also have the A1 under that designation.
BTW after one full day of use, I am sooo impressed with this thing. After years of slumming it with the likes of HP and Toshiba, getting to own a proper laptop is a real treat. It just doesn't look like they cut any of the corners in the places where some of the cheaper manufacturers would all in the name of getting to market with a lower price tag, only, this thing is almost as inexpensive! The thing is so quiet even though you can feel it pushing hot air out the back. I love the rubberized look. Add to that the one year of free accidental damage warranty - are you kidding me? I am just really satisfied right now...

This is why I am so excited and willing to drive the 400 mile round trip for this thing. I already ordered a second 500gb hdd to fill in the blanks. Laptop bag and bluetooth mouse is also on order. Yes I understand the A1 is worth the money but those who want A1s are still waiting and I will have mine on Saturday!

I am starting to regret not going and my round trip would have been 900 miles! I would have made a one day vacation out of it and shared the drive with my brother, gas would have been cheap (<$60) but having to pay sales tax would have sucked. If we would have done that would we have them by now.

I already have a spare AC adapter on the way and 2x640gb drives in hand and formatted, not no laptop to put them in :(

Now 900 miles round trip would be quite long and i do not think i would have gone that far but 400 miles is worth it.

If I had had to wait any longer, I probably would have done that too. Thank god I didn't :p . Have I mentioned how much I love this thing?
