Yes but since the G750 does not have Optimus it's sort of a moot point.

How do you figure? If I had to choose between a similar specd Asus and a MSI I would pick the Asus any day for the sheer build quality over the MSI. I have had a G72 since they first launched and its still running strong with no problems. This is the first time I have seen Asus go with such a BEAST of a GPU and I already ready to try that baby out.

Is the asus the only 1 claiming they will have thunderbolt?

Think clevo p375sm, alienware m17x r5 and m18x r3 have thunderbolt too. Don't think new msi have thunderbolt.

Edit: My guess before the official release of the alienware machines having thunderbolt was wrong, they don't, so just the clevo p370sm/p375sm and asus g750 have thunderbolt

So? As I said it will still run louder and with less battery life. Read my last sentence again

You do realise, that the links that you posted show, that the ASUS has better battery life:
ASUS: Idle 6:10, surfing with wlan 4:10, and under load 2:30
MSI: Idle: 5:57, surfing with wlan 4:52 (I guess this is where Optimus comes in), under load: 1:23

And is also quieter while under load:
    ASUS: Idle: 33.6 / 33.6 / 33.6 dB(A), under load: 36.8 / 41.4 dB(A)
    MSI: Idle: 29.6 / 31.1 / 31.9 dB(A), under load: 41.3 / 46.8 dB(A)

You do realise that lower is better in these two categories, right?

MSI is quieter when idle, which is what counts. Under load, the MSI is louder because it has a 780M.

MSI has better battery life where it counts. Under load, the MSI has lower batter life because it has a 780M which draws more power.

Is there any program or at least something that we can HEAR every single dB from our speakers? I really don't know how 31 dB or 33 dB. Is it too much difference? I just can't judge it. For example, my oldy clevo m571 seems to work with 70db or more. It is just like an airplane but nothing else.

    http://wgs4.com/files/Vaughn/cooler_decibel_chart.jpg

A chart with the decibel scale. 2 decibels is nothing, you can barely hear the difference. Yeah Wonton, okay, a difference between 780m and 770m can't be more than 50% of time. Sorry, but your arguments are silly.

Sorry if this was stated (haven't read every comment) the ASUS G750 does have a Thunderbolt along with the USB 3.0 ports correct?

I don't believe this has any 2.0 ports (which is good) correct? I don't understand why some manufactures still use those on High End notebooks in mid 2013. Don't get me wrong if they want to put them (1 OR 2) on mid or lower range notebooks to keep the cost down fine.

I think the number of USB 3.0 ports was in some way limited by the chipset of the motherboards, so it wasn't the laptop manufacturers fault. And now Haswell has support for more USB 3.0 ports, so all of them can be 3.0, like in tha G750. I could e wrong though.

    About Decibels (dB)

Every +3dB SPL is double the power. Every +10dB SPL is twice as loud, to our human ears.

In regards to cooling fans and cooling system, what matters more is not the average noise, rather than the presence/absence of noise spikes at certain frequencies. For those hardcore audio enthusiast (if you have bought a headphone that cost as much as this Asus G750, then you probably are one), there's a plot called cumulative spectral decay, a.k.a waterfall plot. In headphones, it's used to determine the ringing (ie resonance) of the driver.

In fans, it's used to determine resonance. The conclusion is, don't just take the dB as it is, you have to hear it. I would choose the cooling fans/system that have a higher average noise with less resonance (high pitch whine) over fans that have lower average noise but have more whine.

As a side note, I like how Asus have been paying attention and putting better onboard audio on their mobo. I hope that Asus does the same with their G750. Also, I would love to get the Stax 009 headphone from Japan right now. It's so heavily backordered because Yen dropped so low vs USD. But I won't have money to buy the MSI GT-70 or Asus G750 or Alienware's new m17x and the headphone at the same time :(

I actually think that these prices are as they should be. The previous ones were overpriced. I hope the prices will remain at this level!

Edit: I missed your link and I haven't opened it until now, and I have to agree, this does seem too low. Does anyone know this site?

One must wonder what kind of chassis change is planned for 780M.... I might go with 770M if its something radical.

It is really how computer are advertised in general . Every single computer ad title is (cpu, ram, hdd, period.)
Maybe it is the tradition since those were the bottlenecks 20-30 years ago so they just keep it to help sell computer at inflated price nowadays. Who knows?

Your comparing a test model preview to a production model review? (Apples to oranges comparison.)

Ok, so remove the aluminum from both notebooks and tell me which is designed better. (MSI needs the aluminum to distract from an inferior design.) Yes, but non-matching light colors.
Dynaudio and Steelsieres stamped on it. (Unnecessary and overdone.) :(

Nice, but this need to be in a 18.4 inch notebook + dual 780m to be useful and worth the price increase. (3D screen is especially useful for the 120hz.) :p

If you can wait until July, there will be more SKUs. (Asus doesn't just release 3 of them.) As for hardware upgrade, I believe there is a change in the JH model based on that its a little thicker and that the manual is still not listed. (Asus is hiding something.) Time will tell. ;)

MSI is just advertising features Asus already has; Asus' already great cooling (even better with the JH model), raid ssd + hdd (all you really need), thunderbolt (to daisy chain multiple displays).
But Asus is on top here with more features: Leap Motion and 3D 120hz display. (imo)

    Quotes not working. :(

Curious on this too, I love the "G46" style which I'm familiar with, but what is the extra needed for the 780m? Plus, as everyone else, I'm concerned about price!

Both the G750JX and JH weighs 10.6 pounds though. But then again their specifications page still isn't very trustworthy. 89 watt AC adapter for the JH apparently.....

Weighs 2 pounds more than the MSI GT70-2od. Is that additional weight for looks or does the Asus have a magnesium alloy skeleton or thicker ABS plastic than the MSI? I'm sure some of it is the dual fans but it looks like the MSI cools the 780m well

Also, anybody who gets this laptop, have you been able to overload the 180w ac adapter?

Hmm so with the Asus you are saying that it can get more than 180w from the power supply before it trips or before the laptop circuitry cuts power. Possibly well over 200w if you buy a bigger AC adapter if the 180w trips.
With the MSI, it is hard set at 180w and unless it's a 3 wire (a data line), using a larger capacity AC adapter won't help.

But who knows. So few people have these laptops and fewer yet have kill-a-watt meters.

There are reports already of pulling >190W+ with a moderate OC on the P150SM (with the same config as the G750) -- that's without any OC to speak of on the CPU. Likely the G750 will run into the same OC issues.
