Yeah I know it can suck how long certain places can take but at least the machine is worth the wait![]()

The other one is hidden. Looks for the XoticPC review. -
Do you think i should update the bios even if i have no problem at all?
-
When are we getting the G751 in the UK? Im practically refreshing Overclockers.co.uk every day (as I want to buy on finance).

I searched but i can't find where in the review it shows the hidden m.2 ssd -

In the review he doesn't show you the 2nd SSD, he just points at the place it located and said the SSD is there and you need a complete teardown to access it. -
Wow...that's a bum....not good for sell
Right now i'm focused on msi gt72 -
Yes GT72 is more easy to upgrade, something Asus should learn from. For me, i love the Asus design, GT72 looks more like a toy than a machine.d0r1n likes this. -

More powerful? What the heck you talking about. The same cpu with the same gpu with pretty much the same cooling efficency.fabioniza likes this. -

I've been researching the G751JH for the last month and finally pulled the trigger on the G751JY-DH72X @ Newegg for $2999, yes I know it's overkill but wanted the turnkey 500GB SSD, the higher end CPU is nice but definitely overkill for my "needs" (gaming only.) But I anticipate a huge improvement over my aging G73JH which has been the best lappy I've ever owned, but my back hurts from lugging it

Anyone know what countries/regions?
Usually an MXM upgrade requires a new BIOS. Does MSI provide the BIOS upgrade for your machine?
MSI doesn't mention the BIOS update in the Upgrade "Manual" or Video
http://event.msi.com/gt72mxm/Born-to-Upgrade-how-to.pdf
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZZ5hGDZpI8
http://event.msi.com/gt72mxm/
And, of course the most important item is what does it cost? In the video it is mentioned if you have a GT72 870m/880m you can upgrade to the 970m/980m, so what does it cost?
The upgrade price I have found for Clevo is $1275 for the 980m. Not exactly cost effective - I might as well sell the laptop and get a new one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NVIDIA-GEFO...er_Computer_Graphikkarten&hash=item462a95ef24
One of the main issues with supporting new graphic cards in an old chassis is the power supply, often it isn't strong enough to support the new MXM card. Newer / faster than 980m cards may require more power than the model is designed to provide.
Does MSI allow for upgrading the Power too?
Note: After watching the video closely, it doesn't look like the GT72 CPU is upgradable - it isn't in a socket, it looks flush mounted to the motherboard - and not on a daughter card either.
Note2: It is clearly mentioned this upgrade voids the warranty, if it goes wrong, you are on your own. That seems odd, and not comforting.fabioniza likes this. -
Amazon has sent me an email to let me know that they will be shipping out the G751JT-CH71 around the 13th of November.
It's a while later than I would have liked, but I like having a solid date for it.praetorianx and UltimaXemnas like this. -
I'm starting to think i'll only get this sweet laptop next year
Oh well, better late than never I guess... -

Many times I have ordered things from Amazon when they were out of stock and very often they seem to find/get more, faster than they estimated, in stock. Hopefully you get lucky and they ship far sooner.
I received the Newegg order confirmation email for my order but I won't know how soon the order will be shipped until Monday at best. I did get 2 day shipping, so hopefully it gets out their door early this week and maybe I can even get it by the end of the week. -
IMO the MXM slot in the MSI GT72 is not a reason to choose it over the ASUS now that they both have a soldered CPU, unless you plan to pay the $$$ for the better 48XX-49XX i7. (A new GPU would be bottlenecked by the old CPU...)
The only + for GT72 is weight, more SSD slots, 6-8GB of VRAM, and maybe speakers. (Everything else is in ASUS' ball court.) -

Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the screen on the Asus G751JT with a touchscreen? A notebook with a 970/980M with a touchscreen would be ideal. Are there any other notebooks with this combination?

If you don't know, no need to reply. But thanks anyway. -

Has anyone tried playing FFXIV with the new Asus laptop?
-
No i am from France, i don't know if they ship outside France. But if you wanna know delevery was fast, i preordered, then 3 days after the product was in stock i got it.
And this is one of the biggest french online reseller, but it has not the best reputation (although i didn't have any problem with them). -
Darn, so hard to wait, the JY will be in stock in about 1-2 weeks in Hungary for $2050 (with 4860hq cpu).
The JT with 970m will have a better pricetag (around $1550), but I will go for the 980m -
Give them some time, I actually rather prefer to wait another month, just to see which problems might appear

HI, can someone tell me on the G751 can you have an m2 drive and 2 x 2.5" inch drives installed or can you only have one m2 and one other 2.5" drive installed?

G751 Upgrade Guide - Republic of Gamers
Meantime, I have been installing several racing simulations onto my own g751-JY. I can tell you the IPS screen is gorgeous and that it runs everything I have thrown at it including: Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, Grid, etc. I have clubsport pedals, a Porsche 911 GT2 wheel, logitech g35 headphones and wireless logitech keyboard and mouse running at the same time (filling all four usb ports) and I have been duplicating the video on a larger monitor using an hdmi cable. All I can say is even after racing for several hours ... this laptop never even skipped a beat. It is AMAZING. Wireless networking has also been working extremely well.
I have three gripes tho. First, the SSD and the HD were partitioned into two drives each. Second, even tho it comes with a physical blu ray player, It does not come with software to play blu rays, much less dvds (although it does come with some burning software which I havent delved into at all). And, lastly, while I could easily prevent the laptop from sleeping, I can't figure out how to keep it from shutting down when I close the laptop lid. Nitpicky, I know. But, there is not much to complain about.praetorianx and Demike like this. -

Here, Asus Install is showing what I don't have installed.
I have my own subscription to Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultimate Edition so I can use it whenever / wherever I need to so I don't use the Asus provided software from Cyberlink.
The disk partitioning thing is just Asus's choice, it's not a bad idea, but just a bit outside many consumers idea of how to use storage. Even though it is a good idea generally to maintain data safe from an individual partition failure - for most people it is an inconvenience.
For me I keep backups outside the laptop of the things I don't want to lose, and especially for the C partitions splitting up the small drive into even smaller partitions it is a bit too much. I always backup and combine the partitions to recover the space into the single C partition.
Here is a view, after backing up the recovery partition with Asus Backtracker, combining partitions, deleting OEM / locked partitions with diskpart
Changing the Power Plan advanced option - selecting what to do when the lid is closed:
Asus usually has good reasons for doing what they do, and like every company these days is running faster and leaner than they should to stay profitable.
The relationship you enter into when you buy high end technology is such that everything isn't served out on a silver platter - some assembly - self learning - and exploration is helpful to smooth out the relationship and make it successful.
If you find a problem, or just don't like the way something is done, let Asus know so they can take user input into consideration on their next release. Asus is really good about that. The IPS Panel, no Optimus, upgrading M.2 SATA to M.2 PCIE are all in some part due to user input.
There are lots of user input channels in to Asus. I use the Technical Inquiry, Chat, and Phone calls. Here are some of the links, some international, some North America.

I do like that they dropped optimus, if you are not going to have a switch on this class of machine, just leave it off and get it efficient.
-
If not, then something has changed, and you should contact Asus for a download/license for Blu-ray Playback.
http://vip.asus.com <== create a login, register your laptop, and file a Technical Inquiry to Asus clearly stating the need / problem.
Obviously you should get a license/software to playback Blu-rays, so something got messed up in the build/install for the G751 OS - it happens, work it out with Asus, and please come back and let us know the resolution.BigDRim likes this. -
