Wow if the fps is by playing the games from 1tb hard drive then i guess 120 fps is pretty good.

3nDo3mO, it doesn't matter where the program loads from, it will run at full speed either way once it is loaded and run from RAM.

What makes SSD's better than HD's is the in game load times.

When the program needs to load more resources from the storage medium - whether it is DVD/BD HDD or SSD - the lag introduced by the media is the problem - it causes snags / glitches in the game play.

An SSD doesn't have head parking delay, or wake up delay, or lag time induced by slow transfer rates.

A game will start up faster from an SSD too, which is cool, but the real win is the smooth in game play.

Do all models come with IPS screen? even 970M models?
Might just go cheap and buy a base model , the 970M looks plenty powerful enough to game on high settings at 1080p with most games at 60FPS....or pretty close to 60FPS.

To new owners of the G751 ... is the keyboard really that bad to get used to? I mean the dark red colors making it difficult to hunt down FN keys and what not?

This machine is one of three I'm considering and the keyboard is one of my hangups as the red color just looks so dark. I type 100+ wpm no problem but was wondering about the FN keys and all.

Another hang up I have is the limited storage options (say compared to the MSI Stealth Pro which has 3 mSATA ports and a 2.5") .. being that single m.2 drive and one 2.5". Don't know if this would bother me in the long run or not.

Does anybody know if the SATA interface of the motherboard is actually SATA III or SATA II? I know some vendors (think MSI) will include a SATA III hard drive while their internal interface is still only SATA II (which I think is ridiculous). Is this the case with the G751 or is it's 2.5" drive motherboard interface truly SATA III?

    thanks.
    Joel

I can only give my 2 cents on the keyboard. I am not a bad typist, so the lighting isn't that big of a deal. However, for the non-QWERTY standard keys (fn, Asus buttons) I do have to hunt and peck. Those are a bit harder. With time I'll figure them out and just know where they are (like the mute button I've already used several times at the office.) But, with all of that said, the keys are not really easy to see. The dark red on matte black does not stand out, I can read them fine when the room is well lit, but if its dark and you have the keyboard lights off, the keys are very hard to impossible for me to read. With the keyboard lights on its fine.

    Hey,

I find the keyboard hard to see with the lights off. But then again, I generally have the lights on or am not looking for the quirky keys. I can type about 60 wpm, and don't have any issues. Key travel is great for a laptop as well.

Not sure about the Sata speeds, although it was mentioned here before. I just slapped a 500gb Samsung Evo 840 in there and I got good speeds, not as fast as the primary drivr, but who really cares, still quick.

If atorage is really important to you you'll need a large secondary drive. I find having about 700gb free of SSD space plenty for now.

    Good luck.

Hey Gunz did you transfer the OS from primary HDD to SSD? or just used SSD to increase the total memory available/replace HDD with SSD? If you used 840 evo as primary drive (transferred OS to SSD) can tell you me the specific method you used since most people are complaining that cloning wouldn't get you the recovery partition on SSD.

    Here is what I did.

    SSD 1: 256GB – 2 x 128gb partitions
HDD: Removed and replaced with 500GB Samsung 840 Evo

I left the primary SSD as it is. The operating system and programs come on partition 1 or the primary SSD. Partition 2 of the SSD is blank. I left the operating system on partition 1, and left the partitions as they were…I prefer it this way myself.

As for the HDD, it came with no data, and I just removed it and replaced it with the 500Gb SSD as storage. I just throw movies, downloads, and other junk here, and eventually, games when I have too many. It comes with a caddy that fit the SSD, so a monkey could install this, no extra parts needed.

I didn’t use the new SSD for the OS since the primary one is faster since it’s a m.2. (I think, correct me if I’m wrong please) Transfer speeds between the two SSD’s was 235MBps.

But if storage is a huge issue for you, the other laptop you mentioned may be a better fit. And someone else will have to let you know about the cloning.

Just got my shipment confirmation from newegg i should get the laptop by tomorrow.

I ordered the G751JT-CH71 model. Once I have it i will post pictures from the bay hope fully i comes with the attachment on the empty slot.

Im surprise that newegg is shipping the laptop before the release date posted on their website.

I read that somebody had canceled their order from newegg and got theirs through amazon its too bad cause that person is going to have to wait a longer period of time instead of getting it this week.

Hahaha... That would be me. Curse my impatience.

I have a feeling Amazon will get theirs in stock within the next few days or so though, and will then ship it out to me, so I may just get my laptop within the week. Here's hoping.

(I still don't regret going for Amazon though, they have a much better return policy.)

I'd wait a little longer to ensure smooth sailing if you have issues too. It's nice to get things ASAP but a little patience can pay off.

I like to think that because so many people got theirs before me, the kinks have been worked out.(I haven't seen any that would bug me anyway - other than the shallow power plug thing, and that's not an overly huge issue anyway.

Plus, the better return policy means I don't mind waiting a week longer than others.

I am pretty sure I was the first one to mention that Amazon had this available for your order. I'm referring to the ch71. I strongly thought about Newegg but the problems with them and their customer service are just too great. I may have considered a retailer that charged no tax to California like XOTICPC. But I would never choose anybody over Amazon for the most part. Between the ease of returns and the ease of customer service and the fact that they will do just about anything to make things right Amazon is pretty much king. If you get your computer home through Newegg and the ssimplest thing is wrong or you're just not getting the performance that you expect 25% restocking fee that's unreasonable. And some people will say that if you fight it you can get it lowered or removed you shouldn't have to do that. Companies with the best policies upfront that don't require a fight to get things changed are normally the best. So if I have to wait an extra week or two weeks it is 1000% worth it. And for that point I think there's a good chance that the order date is just a placeholder anyway more than likely we will see it before the 13th which is my estimated delivery date. But for those of you guys who got it now start posted your impressions ASAP.

One question: i'm from Portugal, if I order one from another country will I be able to do something about the keyboard layout? Like make all keys operate and type the same characters as any Portuguese keyboard?

I know actually changing the physical keyboard itself is impossible, I was just wondering if there was a workaround...

I was reading through the tech specs somewhere, is it true the 2nd drive bay (where the 1TB 7200 rpm drive is) is SATA II instead of SATA III?

Because if that's the case, that's going to be slowing down your EVO 840 quite a bit. It's the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on that laptop yet :-/

For those that have the G751JT-CH71 model, is the RAM installed as 2x8Gb? I'd like to upgrade it to 32Gb and was wondering if all I needed was another 2x8Gb. Thanks.

For those I've you that were wondering you only need to buy the Ssd the laptop comes with the bay.

Also if you wanna upgrade the memory the two slot are open the other 2 modules are installed internally.

I'll post better picture later, I'm going to work on installing windows on the Ssd that I got.

I hope that answer some of the question ppl were having!

I don't understand. Portuguese keyboards have some special letters that other keyboards don't? Otherwise you will just need a little adaptation time for some keys' positions.

You can use internation keyboard windows has a settings for that, now as far as the keys goes you can always call asus and order the right keyboard you want im not sure if they will have the part to sell right away. Keep in mind if you change the keyboard that will void the laptop warranty. i dont really recommend changing the keyboard. you can always use a USB keyboard too dont forget that.

another thing you can do is just but stickers online my wife did that on her laptop, she is from russia every time she needs to use the russian keyboard she just change the setting on windows.

i hope that helps you. If you find a better solution let us know but those are the only ones that i know.

i just got done re-installing Windows using asus backtrack

The program partitioned both SSD and HDD into 4 drives. If anyone else run into this all i did to fix this was go on Disk management and delete the Volume from one of the partition and Extended Volume on the original drive. I did that on both drives so i could get just 2 drives.

I've should have print screen the steps, but this is information it is easy to find online.

Make sure when doing the backup using asus backtrack you have your windows still clean with no additional programs installed. This will prevent any errors or corruption, also make sure nothing else is running. For the backup you are going to need an USB with at list 20GBs of free space.

    I hope that helps!
