Bigspin, please update us if you are emailed with an ETA!

Dazzy: Thanks for the confirmation. I'm considering doing the same. I am however toying with the idea of waiting to order through Overclockers.co.uk simply for some additional finance options.

Sure, I'll do that....BTW Kikatek.com also listed the both models and according to them ETA: 05/12/2014

My past experience with Amazon is they usually get their stock fast. I'm expecting delivery between 7-15th November.

I'm on my second G751 and have had keyboard troubles with both. One from Newegg was a DH71 unit and one from Amazon is a DH72X unit. What I've found is that the = and the End key do not register regularly. = seems to be 50/50 and the End is a little better at 75%. Anybody else have this issue? I am trying one more from Amazon before I bail and go with a GT72 I have on preorder.

didnt know you was having problems, did they do a full refund and you just ordered the other one? nice to see some user reviews and reports now. Ive chose this G751 over the Aorux X7 Pro because of the price and the cooling. The 970m SLI beats the 980m but much but not that much for a extra £500 price tag.

Yeah, I returned the first to Newegg with no problem. Decided after much debate to try again from Amazon because they're a little faster when dealing with returns. They've already setup the replacement order. Will be here Monday. I sure hope its defect-free. I do like the unit a lot. The screen is amazing and the cooling is fantastic (it'd better be for the size of the beast).

I ruled out the Aorus X7 myself primarily because of the terrible battery life and no desire to deal with SLI issues.

One really odd note on the DH72X unit with the 4860HQ. It has a sticker on it advertising the CPU's Iris Pro graphics (Intel 5200) but its completely unusable as Optimus does not exist and there isn't any way to manually switch the GPUs either.

Ok keep us updated, would be good to see some youtube vids if you can with benchmarks and some gameplay footage, maybe bf4,shadow of modor, evil within. The machine itself looks sweet, from the benchmarks ive seen today the bf4 performance is 65-85 fps on full settings which is sick, the 970m and 980m are truly fast chips. :D

I can do some benches, but don't have any of those.

I did run some CPU benches to compare the 4710HQ to the 4860HQ, will post later on.

You need to manually enable it and restart the system to use iGPU. You cannot use both.

Sorry to hear that. I had considered buying from Xotic PC and having it shipped to the UK but your experiences now completely eliminate that option for me. Not worth the logistics headache internationally should anything go wrong.

Amazon uk. Those prices aren't too shabby. I'll wait a bit until they are released to other online retailers to buy. P.S The intel 4860 is definitely not worth it i'd go with the cheaper 4710.

TBH I'm waiting for someone to release a 16GB Ram version since 24 for me is overkill. Looking to save as much money as possible. :( I feel so poor.

Also, do prices actually go down during Christmas? Last years Christmas the price on the G750 stayed the same unless I was looking at all the wrong retailers. Currently the G750JZ looks priced higher still than the new 751. Will prices on amazon uk go higher once stock arrives November 7th or whenever?

Similar situation to me. I can buy it in full but would rather not, with Christmas and NYE so close.

Fortunately, Overclockers.co.uk works with Hitachi Finance. If you pay a £29 admin-fee, you can activate a 1 year deferred payment plan. Just in case people here aren't familiar with this, this is when you pay contributions of whatever value you want, however frequent you want, so long as the total amount of the laptop is paid off within a 1 year period. Any amount left over from that point onwards will be moved to a monthly payment plan with a 29% interest rate tacked on, which is of course very high. So, there's a huge incentive to ensure the laptop is paid off properly within the deferred period.

This is really the only reason I'm waiting for Overclockers to list the product on their website. With Christmas/NYE coming up, I'd rather pay 600 and then knock out the remaining 1,000 over 12 months, avoiding interest in the process.

Alternatively you could sign up to a credit card with a promotional 0% APR over some defined time period, and just get it on Amazon, thereby creating your own 'deferred payment' schedule. The longer Overclockers takes to list the product, the more I'm tempted to go with this option to be honest.

Can someone with the unit comment on the performance of the wireless ac card? Connection speed? Connection quality transfer speed? Both on n and ac?

    That would be most appreciated.

I read that the Killer cards in the GT72 did not have good range.

Hey buddy. I have the CH71 and am experiencing the same sound issues you mentioned here. My "right" speaker under the screen is not working or non existent. If you go into realtek audio wizard, which is accessible by plugging in a pair of headphones (then unplugging them) or just finding the application, try fading from left to right. For me, left gives me sub on the bottom and left speaker. Sliding it to the right gives me all sub and nothing up top. I wondered if this was normal or if I have a defective unit at first, and now your post has me thinking it might either be normal or some sort of bad quality control. Please try this out and let me know your results, I would love to know what happens. Anyone else want to try it or chime in please do.

Ordered a G751JY-T7004H from a general electronic store in Norway. They didn't have it listed on their webpage, but they found it in their system when I asked for it in the store. New price was 15999,-, but this store just had a 20% discount when shopping with a certain Mastercard. Norwegian prices: Prisjakt - kunnskap før kjøp

A couple of stores operates with unconfirmed date of november 8th. Not sure when I can expect to pick it up.

Got the G751jy a few days ago. Here are some things I've noticed for anyone considering this laptop:

    1. Sound from speakers is of decent quality, however the entire body of the laptop makes this annoying vibrating/buzzing noise when audio is loud enough (50+). It's really, really annoying and I'm sticking to headphones until someone figures out a fix.

    2. Latop makes a humming noise when placed on a wooden table. It's not very noticeable but kind of odd.

    3. Display has this auto contrast thing that you can't turn off. Only happens on battery. I know someone in the thread said they fixed this problem, but me and many others have not found a solution.

    3. Keyboard and touchpad are really nice. Touchpad multitouch gestures like scrolling and zooming work flawlessly.

    4. Performance has been solid for gaming and browsing. Windows boots in like 2 seconds it's ridiculous.

    5. I seem to get good signal from my wireless, but I have had some trouble acquiring a connection initially. Seems to work right now though.

That humming on the table. Is that just the HDD drive spinning? I replaced mine with an SSD, so I don't notice it.

I had the exact same issue with my G75 it too 2 RMA's to get it fixed. I highly advise going on the ROG forums and get with one of the Customer Loyalty reps there. They can help out getting them through the service center successfully. you'll recognize them cl-albert. Most likely yours is a loose or not connect speaker ribbon.

Got really frustrated and took mine apart today. The four screws at the back of the unit underneath give access to pulling off the back "hinge" part from the top, giving way to the speakers (connected by a Tiny wire) and battery (yes, up top!). What I found after doing this is that during assembly, while inserting one of the screws and tightening it, they pinched and severed the right speaker wire entirely. it literally has a screw sized hole just punched right into it. I had to remove the heat shrink, strip both ends of the tiny wire (that thing is too tiny for any wire strippers and needed the burn & pull technique to strip), twisted, soldered, electrical taped, and reassembled and now it works perfectly fine. Called customer support to see if they could just send me the replacement "hinge battery cover thing with speakers in it" and they firmly stated that they "do not send parts to customers" and asked if I wanted to send it in for repair. I am not willing to be out of a product I payed good money for for weeks just because they were too incompetent to do it right the first time. Plus it works! I have to say that this sort of quality control is very concerning. Besides this one fault, my trackpad is not flush with the handrest on one side but is on the other, and I have an audible squeaking sound when I press on the left side of the keyboard but not on the right. I am unsure if I will every buy their products again, even with how much I love this laptop. I would suggest others, especially the dude who experienced this problem, check theirs for the same issue. Good lookin out sir, but I have it fixed and covered. Sorry to hear about your experience. :(

The "Bass Eye" subwoofer is awesome, but every laptop it comes installed in constrains it to some extent. If you need to run the left/right speakers higher than the subwoofer can run without buzzing/distorting, then turn down the subwoofer to around 50% and then try again, adjust the subwoofer % driven higher/lower to make sure at your favorite highest L/R volume the subwoofer isn't buzzing or distorting.

    Internal Subwoofer and Front Levels.JPG

This is likely vibration noise conducted through the chassis to the table from the spinning HDD. Replace it with a SSD to completely get rid of the sound. For now find cork or folded up cloth under the laptop feet to dampen the sound. Make sure you don't use anything that extends over the bottom vents - they need to have full clearance to draw enough air to keep the laptop cool.

This was / is a problem on the G750 and G-series before, some have solved it by deleting the associated registry entries in their registry and pasting in the settings from someone without the problem.

I posted .reg files on the ROG forums and someone with a G751 already solved his auto-contrast problem with it. Here is the link, please post there/here how it worked for you.

Auto contrast is driving me nuts!!
Auto contrast is driving me nuts!! - Page 15

Be sure and run hwinfo64 in Sensors Only mode while benchmarking / testing to see your temps and if you are thermal throttling - it won't be a problem for most, but if it is a problem with your laptop you want to find out quickly so you can return it within the return period of the seller - otherwise you will be stuck sending it in to Asus for a RMA.

    hwinfo64 download
    HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download

    View attachment 117287

Scroll through the list of readings to find the 4 lines of thermal throttling tracking - it will catch your CPU turning on thermal throttling while hwinfo64 is running.

    View attachment 117288

You can also turn on logging to a file by clicking on the 2nd button from the left on the bottom of the dialog - it creates a .csv file you can look at after a crash or just to look at the changes every 2 seconds. 3rd button from the left is the settings button - you can enable automatic logging and lots of other cool stuff.

Congrats on the new G751JY :)

Those kind of issues are usually limited to first time buyers. I got the same kind of issue when I purchased AW M17x R3. I preoderd and after it arrived, I found power socket is not working randomly. Dell service person arrived to fix the problem and found they didn't properly soldered the socket to MB

BTW can you explain more about your touch pad issue and KB issue.

hey, I `m not sure if this was asked before... but what is with the GDDR5 on this laptop, only limited to 4GB (980 card) compared to MSI GT72 that has max GDDR5 on all configurations (8GM) ??
Is this going to make a considerable difference in game performance (I read that the mode GDDR5, the better options u can enable in in games)
    thanks

The G751 is available on Amazon for U.S. Buyers already for $2374.50

    http://www.amazon.com/G751JY-DH71-1...1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415047436&sr=8-1&keywords=g751

I'm just wondering if it's worth upgrading for me. That's a lot of money I think for a laptop with a single gpu. I can get a new AR rifle with some nice specs for that kind of cash. And while my preference is for an Asus ROG laptop, I can't help but lean towards the Aorus X7 Pro with 970m sli.

But I know I won't be happy with the X7 Pro because I'm betting it's going to be very loud in comparison to the G46, and I wonder if the thermals to cool those gpus are going to be acceptable.

I might just wait it out. The G46 with the GTX660m is still doing fine in most games at 1080p with various tweaks. Middle Earth game plays fine at 1080p on the G46 still. So I might just get a 1TB SSD to upgrade my G46, and a 256GB SSD msata as well.

I hope Asus brings back a G46 size laptop and put a GTX980m in it. Then I'd be forced to upgrade regardless of the price.

Hey man. I have the same problem. Could you contact me at [email protected] just to explain in more detail how you stripped the wired and soldered them back on.

That's weird my G751JY came with not working screen, probably wrong cable work so they gave me money back... Like really Asus? After reading posts in this topic I am bit afraid to pick up a new unit but I like overall design of the laptop and in Slovakia there's not many possibilities if u want to go with gtx 980M

I can only reply with respect to AC...

Speeds and range are excellent. Mine is reporting 100Mbps plus to ISP on time warner cable speed tests. Now if only it was that fast beyond the ISP.

After reading all this issues I'm thinking about cancelling my preorder. I don't want to be a beta tester.

So this is what I see. Messing with the subwoofer level didn't seem to do anything. Like it didn't actually adjust the levels of the sub. Even when set to zero the buzzing still happens.

I'm starting to think it's the speakers and not the sub. Playing bass heavy music doesnt seem to cause it at all, I think it's more trebley sounds.

I think I'll try and make a video and upload it to youtube and see what you guys have to say.

Ryuji, that brings up a few questions :)

First, the G750 is a 2.1 Stereo with a Subwoofer channel. It looks like either you have selected a 5.1 mode and the speakers are still 2.1, or there really is a 5.1 speaker system in the G751... unlikely as that sounds it is possible.

Can you please go the the General tab, and select the Speaker output - probably set as Default now - and Configure, and post what you see? Maybe Select Stereo and see if that changes the sound - it might be sibilant in the 5.1 Surround simulation that is causing the bad sound.

Here is what the G750JH Stereo Speaker configuration looks like:

You might dig around in the Enhancements tab too for options of use... I enable Loudness, there might be Surround related options in your case.

It's nice to know the G751 has either real speakers surround, or simulated - the G750 only offers non-Surround modes from the Realtek chipset.

bigspin, that is the case with most new laptop lines, the first few months of production are like this. It will likely happen again around the 6-8 month production mark too as lines change and get handed off to another team.

The good news is Asus always comes through with a fix, replacement, or update to solve 99.9% of the problems

You only need to be patient and hang in there. It helps to have the perspective that these are all new technologies in a new platform with new hardware, manufacturing, shipping, and software update issues.

Asus is dependent on their suppliers, Microsoft, Nvidia, ATI, and their own myriad of production shipments. It is amazing Asus does as well as they do - others don't :)

And, Asus has been doing this for many years successfully, while many others dropped by the wayside.

And, Asus is focused on high performance OC gaming. What more could you ask for?

How about a little support and understanding from us? :)

I don't think you would go wrong in the long run getting a G751 now. But, you know you better than I do, so if you know you wouldn't be happy on the cutting edge, then get one of the previous models where all the bugs have been worked out, or wait for 3 months or so for the G751 to get a higher success rate on shipments.

Either way, don't wait, get something now, I have learned from experience that waiting is pretty boring :)
