Odd but your results were not normal, I wish you luck with whatever system you get.

Yah but most resellers sell it around 2,500, so students discount is no use at all. There were some sellers in amazon who placed it for 1900, too bad i didnt get to buy it right away. :( i had a g750 so eventhough alienware's base model r2 gtx980m is only 1650 (cheaper if haggle), im still searchin for a good deal on this machine.

Seems like that is in addition to the other models rather than a replacement.

Guys I have the same LCD pannel as the G751JY the LG 1080p IPS pannel... Can you guys please share the ICC profiles Asus provides? I have found one of them but I want to try the other 2... @Kevin@GenTechPC can you guys try pulling the files of a G751JT/JY you have laying around... I think the profiles are installed somewhere in the C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color... Can someone or anyone please upload them?

That would be great... Especially if you can make one.. I've found one made by notebookcheck which I am using along with some NVIDIA tweaks but I rather have a pure profile... Let me know once you can make something :)

    Thanks,

Just be aware that every panel is differerent so the calibration he provides wont neccesarily match with yours.

TomJGX, for Asus, the panel ICC profiles are included with the Asus Splendid application download, for each model. Just go to the Asus Support page for the model you are interested in, and download the most recent version for your model. Then unzip it and the file will be in a subdirectory.

I'd say that is a better bet as it will be a more general profile designed to fit a wider range of panels.

question to the owners of laptop with nvidia 900 series videocard: Is mDP port connected to discreet videocard or to intel HD graphics? You can see it on Nvidia control panel - > Set Physx configuration

So I downloaded MGS 5 the other day (runs great btw) and was downloading GTA 5 today... and I've noticed wifi speeds were kind of all over the place. I checked task manager and the network graph showed they were indeed kind of all over the place, very very spiky. I updated the Intel AC 7260 drivers from 17.x.x.x (Feb 2015) to the newest 18.0.0.9 drivers and wifi in general seems alot better. There's also no spiky behavior on the network graph anymore. Definitely recommend anyone who uses wifi check to see how theirs is performing.

This machine is known to have wonky wifi, along with bad left-side USB ports, some screen bleeding, and (apparently resolved) speaker issues.

Yep it's working as well as the Killer wifi card in my previous MSI laptop now. I'm hitting the limit of my connection and it's stable.

Edit: Small correction its driver 18.20.0.9 I updated to, not 18.0.0.9

Any idea why the new G751JT-WH7-WX that I just got from Newegg would come with two partitions on the drive? It's got an OS partition of 371gb and the rest, minus about 2gb for the recovery stuff, is a separate partition.

You mean Partition 1 = OS and Partition 2 = Recovery?
    That would be perfectly normal.

No, it was Partition 1 = OS and Partition 2 = Data. The recoveries were hidden partitions with no drive letters. "Data" had a drive letter - D: and was about 450gb. "OS" was 370gb.

Ah okey. Yeah I've seen companies and users who prefer it that way. If you don't like it, open disk management, delete the D: partition and then extend the C: partition. This will only work if the recovery one is not in between.

Ok hello G751 lounge. New owner of a G751DB73 here and I have a lot of questions.

Coming from a Asus G46VW which I really loved, I knew what to expect out of Asus quality. Sadly, this laptop hasn't been quite up to par with that laptop but I'm going to attribute that to just bad luck
    perhaps.

Right now I have a multitude of issues. I'm going to be reading this whole thread to see if it comes up, but I'm gonna ask a a few quick questions first:

    1. One dead pixel on my screen. Tried UDPixel program, but looks like I'm stuck with the dead pixel. What's weird about this pixel is that it's bright green on first boot.
Then it seems to change color, but is still dead when looking up real close to it. Overall, it's hard to spot when playing games.

    2. Fan grind on right side right as it comes to a stop. Usually happens when restarting or when gpu goes to fanless mode of course. I assume that it is the gpu fan.
I've never tried to service a fan before and was wondering if anyone has experience lubing the fan. Might be a good excuse to put some new thermal paste, but temps seem
to run so cool perhaps it's not necessary. I do not believe it's a realtek issue. The speakers on this actually sound great imo...I am 99% positive it's the fan, because it does it as the right fan
    turns off.

    3. Anyone got the plastic sound space bar key? It makes a weird plasticky clickidy sound for some reason..as if there is a sticker on the bottom of it.

    4. Any incentive to going to Windows 10 performance wise. I actually like the layout of 8.1 and am comfortable using it. I did like windows 10 on another machine I had it
on, but 8.1 is actually fine with me.

Now despite these issues I think the G751 is an awesome laptop. I'm blown away by the GTX970m performance thus far. Mad Max all high settings, 75fps lock for the most part. This feels like gaming desktop performance. Love the way the laptop looks. It's very quiet considering the performance, gpu temps stay very low at 35c idle, and in the 50s when gaming...cpu a bit hotter...38c idle, 70c when gaming which is acceptable imo. I just want to iron out the fan grind and space bar key so this thing can serve me well for a few years.

Not yet, but when games are programmed with DX12 support, absolutely. When you do upgrade, heck even now, check out reddit.com/tronscript to help with bloat and telemetry removal.

So I know the whole enable G-Sync through hacked drivers thing was dropped and no further progress made after 347.88 nvidia drivers.. I got it to work and everything on my G751 970m model.

Are these year-old Nvidia drivers really any slower than the newest ones? I'm basically trying to weigh out if G-Sync is worth keeping over running the latest Nvidia drivers.

It really depends on what you're playing. There's almost always performance improvements with each driver version, you just need to figure out if they are for games you play or not, and weight the cost between performance increase, and gsync.

I'm noticing just weird behavior with the "hacked" gsync drivers.. like tons of flashing of the screen during games (seems to be related to gsync not being able to sync with certain UI elements in games) and black screens when games load.. etc.. Makes me sad because in game when g-sync is running the motion quality is gorgeous.. and I love being able to leave v-sync off since g-sync is doing it. :/

Yeah those old Gsync drivers were known to be quite unstable which is another reason why most people didn't keep using them (in addition to just being quite old drivers now).

The problem is that those drivers from Nab were just a hack not fully enabling G-Sync properly, unfortunately...

I'm thinking about repasting cpu and gpu in my G751JT.

Do I need any thermal pads for other components ?

Am I going to be ok with just a 4g syringe of thermal paste ?

Hi , I'm a owner of G751JY (4720HQ) updated with G -Sync and NVMe ssd.
I noted that CPU temperatures are noticeably higher than my previous MSI GT72 2QE Broadwell , but playing "The Division" reaches 89-90ºC .

Maybe a repaste could improve something ?

With my previous G751JY (4710HQ) I changed the paste 3 times and always had the same temps

I think is a really bad CPU temperatures for these notebook.

I don't think that temp is unreasonable. Games that are intensive will go higher than others. I've actually games on 97-99c. I wasn't happy with that. I don't bother checking now unless my laptop is insanely overheating and throttling. Not just a like 5-10fps I mean like 20fps which messes up the experience. I found I spent too much time worrying and messing in the past that when I got it how I wanted. It was time for next gen.
If your games ok and use is ok. Just leave it I say. Warranty will deal with heat etc unless you can repast it if you need to.

The division can really well use 4 CPU cores under Windows 10, that means much higher temps as compared to many other games! As long as it doesn't drastically throttle, ignore it, the fan should be able to keep the temp.

I'm having an issue with my G751JM. Rather silly issue at that as well. I upgraded to Windows 10, and all worked fine. After a few months however, it all went belly up. My performance dropped a little. That I can deal with.

Over the past month, my laptop does not go I to sleep when ever I closely the lid. It just won't. It crashes, a day it boots all over again. Installed Windows 10 again. Same issue. Checked the Intel MEI drivers. Checked GPU drivers. Reinstalled again. I just can't get the sleep thing to work. Does anyone have any suggestions for this issue?
