ASUS to provide BIOS updates addressing Intel Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS) vulnerabilities, also known as ZombieLoad, RIDL, and Fallout

" ASUS is aware that a new sub-class of speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities in Intel CPUs, called Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS), also known as ZombieLoad, RIDL, and Fallout, may allow information disclosure."

Yup, Intel's created quite the mess for themselves, and everyone else. :(

The biggest mess is the forced updates from Windows. Disgusting! Should be up to the owners determine what they want installed on their own computers.

Yeah I was quite surprised when I saw it downloading a BIOS update. I think it’s a step too far considering that if something goes wrong, the computers a brick.

99 times out of 100 it goes fine but it’s high risk compared to updating just the OS.

I agree, I am disappointed that Asus is still doing automated BIOS updates without warning.

Someone posted about blocking device driver updates via Windows 10 Windows Update, I'll try to find it - I think it was a 3rd party tool, not sure if it will stop BIOS / firmware updates too...here it is:

Tbh it’s the first one I’ve seen Asus push through Windows Update, so I’m not sure why this one was. But I’ve seen some posts about AW pushing them through Windows Update as well recently so maybe this is the future :(

I think in the future I’ll be blocking them if I see any.

This is the Future. For you http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-owners-lounge.826831/page-1192#post-10917130

From my older posts... "But I'm not sure the option to stop automatic BIOS upgrade in the BIOS will work 100% if Dell have added in code in their firmware to let them do it anyway (If they really want push the upgrades on the peoples machines). See... More as emergency button. Only Dell engineers have the answers for this".

That can be the only explanation because I had Windows Update before I shut the computer down. :)
