Don't let the 384 CUDA shaders fool you; it only has GDDR3 memory and performance-wise is about equal to a GT 555M, which means it's still around 50% slower than a GTX 560M. Even if you do factor in the slower memory, I can't help thinking something is wrong because this has the same number of shaders as the GTX 580M yet is way slower than the 560M.

You can look here for more detailed benchmarks of the GT 640M.

Don't be fooled by the raw number of shaders either. The Kepler shaders are individually much weaker than the Fermi ones. My 3 year old 4670M has 320 shaders, and it means nothing. It only matters in comparison to other cards using the same architecture.

Don't forget that M11X had a 1366*768 Resolution , allowing all games to run even with low specs.

At the time M11X R1 was out, it was a real beast. Even now, the R3 is becoming a bit old but can run all games , even BF3 and such.

A netbook with gaming abilities is not something you cannot consider , but it's target to one kind of gamer : the one that always have a laptop in their bag, and cannot have even a 15' wich is too heavy while do not want to have a 14 / 15 / 17 or even 18 monster to play.

I own both an M11X and a G74 and they have a really different use : my G74 can move for exemple to a friend house for LAN or move from living room to my own room, while the M11X is always in my bag , walkin in the street , shopping , at school , at work ... my G74 would be impossible to move so often and would break my back in minutes ( and force me to have a bagpack instead of my leather messenger bag i can bring everwhere without feeling like a geek )

I have the original G73jh from BestBuy [1600x900 res, 6GB RAM] and there is really no reason to buy another laptop. No point until the next gen consoles because PC gaming is 90% console ports and what is basically a HD 5770 can handle most of that @ my resolution with just a few tweaks here and there. I don't plan to upgrade till 2014.

Broadwell mobile and a 800m/9000m... or Bust!

Is this still set for an April release? I've heard Intel decided to delay Ivy Bridge ever further (-_____-) so now I'm just wondering if these new laptops are still set to release in April, if possible.

Really depends on what games you play, what res and settings, i would say that 5870m was a great card, still today holds its own, but there are cards today like GTX580m that its almost twice as fast, now since you are at 1600x900 i dont think you will need much more, but 1080p a lot of games pwn a mobile gpu, personally im looking for an upgrade, but i do want a real kepler, not a rebrand, so my wait continues.

I think the dalay is only for dual cores, quads will still be release on april 8/12, but nothing is certain as the NDA is still up, and there is nothing official from intel.

Now all I need to know is an est. price for the G55... but that'll probably be coming next week when Nvidia decides to lift the NDA.

Thats ancient news, which was later amended about 2 weeks ago to being just a 3 week delay.. Currently atleast desktop Quad Cores and possibly mobile Quad Cores are scheduled for an April Launch (probably the 29th), with only Dual Core chips being delayed till June.

I fully expect them to delay all of Ivy Bridge until the Sandy Bridge stock dries up some more, April is unlikely, late May is more along the right lines for quad/dual launching together. G55 won't be out till May/June I'd imagine.

acer and gigabyte got some ultrabooks with the nvidia gt640m and thy confirmd its kepler, and a video of the ultrabook playing battlefield 3 at ultra/high settings, seems it was smooth enough , evn noticed the gigabyte ultrabook had seprte fan vents in the back for cpu and gpu, jus like seen in asus rog laptops.

hope the gtx670m is kepler too :)

while its not sure, its a good assumption imo, there is nothing new from amd either, personally i think nvidia will focus first on releasing their desktop GTX680, then their mid line for desktops... maybe after they will release a real high end mobile kepler, my guess is Q3.

If that's the case I'll have to settle on a Sandy Bridge Kepler laptop. June is a bit of a long wait for me, considering I can hardly stand this ty computer I have currently.

You're making the assumption Keplar will be out anytime soon. Just because there was a 640m leaked by Acer doesn't mean we'll have high end mobile chips anytime soon :). Nvidia always has major difficulties with new processes/architectures, so it's speculated they will put out low end/midrange graphics long before they put out the real high end cards.

So yes, you might be able to get a 640m keplar sandy bridge laptop sometime in the near future, but anything better than that you won't.

April 17. Asus G75 release date. Putting money on it. Ivy Bridge was delayed for DUAL CORE desktop versions only. The i7 versions come out on the 29th. Why would Intel have a plethora of mobile CPU's that they cannot sell? Just think about it. Kepler for laptops will come out to be used in laptops in the next week to 2-3 weeks. I believe that Asus will come out wih the G75 and G55 with sandy bridge and Kepler. I then believe that they will come out with an upgrade(as they did for the G74, G74-A1, and Best buy versions; BBK-5, and BBK-7), for Ivy Bridge for when it releases.

Ivy Bridge was delayed for ALL CPU's, unless you have a better source?

Ivy Bridge delay confirmed by Intel executive, manufacturing process to blame (updated) | The Verge

Keplar won't be out for laptops in the next 2-3 weeks, the cards for them to be based off of aren't even out, you're really assuming far too much here, you need to take a step back and think about that, the cards that are shrunk down to become the mobile chips aren't even out yet. The rebrands may be out in 2-3 weeks.

Acer is out with the GT 640M. Samsung Q470 is out with the GT 650M as we speak. Lenovo Y580 is releasing very soon with the GT650M and GTX 660M. Nvidia is announcing the Kepler around March 22nd and with notebooks with these GPUs probably releasing right after

Ivy Bridge is pushed back a couple of weeks for all products wether it is Dual core or Quad core, desktop or mobile. Was the original release date mid April? Then it is late april now. Dual core was originally coming out in May, new release date now in June.

So the G75 will have 670m, rather than 675m? Bus bandwidth makes the difference for me.
