    Yes I also prefer the IPS panel, so for that reason I favor n550 over the GL. Thank you again for the advice and the resources!

    Did you check the NP8651? Same price with a 970m.

    I have seen several people mention looking into this machine as an alternative, but I would prefer to stick with Asus if I can, so I havent looked at this model in any depth.

    Also the NP8651 models I looked at were more expensive...regardless I think I'm going to stick with an Asus

    I do appreciate the suggestion though

    The option isn't available in the stock BIOS.
    Talk to Svet at MSI forum to get the BIOS modded for you.

    As far as i know, that is not needed, you can disable turbo boost in any laptop just by puting "maximum processor state" to 99% instead 100% on power options on control panel

    I think what marcos669 said is the only way, the one you've found is intended for ASUS motherboard products, see attached image.

    Just as a side note: those temps are no problem for the CPU, it won't get damaged. The worst thing that could happen would be throttling.

    And deactivating the turbo is a bad idea for WoT - this game needs every single MHz it can get to get good fps. It is very CPU limited, not so much by the GPU.

    So you said that 80-92c(stedy) is not too high for processor? I got 77-88c vith metod i input 99% like "kevin" said!

    Is this try that WoT using more CPU power than GPU power i did't know that :cool: when im playing on my PC i see that more ram memory game using than the processor dont know why(i got on PC Nvidia GTX 650TI 1GB DDR5) hmmm.....
    Thank you mate for any help :eek:

    Can you explain to me what does mean word "throttling" in your post cant translate this word?

    Throttle is to limit or slow down.

    A cpu will throttle or slow down due to power consumption and or temperatures.

    If you can bring the temp down more, then it's less likely to throttle which will allow the gaming experience smoother and enjoyable.
    Throttling can cause the fps to stagger and it is a noticeable and annoying experience.

    Don't think so, 860M isn't much of premium performance GPU not to mention it's mobile GPU.
    Perhaps even the desktop version of GTX 980 may struggle.

    Are you shore i found on net that minimum is gtx 460 it dont mention how much vram but newer the less if 460 is minimum i asume that 860 with 4gb DDR5 will bee enought at least high settings but that my opinion :) ! Thats why i ask here to hear some feedback from experienced players or i just need to waiting official release to see reqaments for the game ;) !

    Minimum:
    -Graphics: DirectX 11 graphics card with 1 GB Video RAM - Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5770
    NVIDIA GTX 460 = 2669 points
    AMD HD 5770 = 1683 points
    NVIDIA GTX 860M = 1821 points

    860M is slightly better than the minimum AMD HD 5770.

    A 860m smokes both 460 gtx and 5770, the equivalent to a desktop 460 gtx (1GB) would be 850m ddr3. And desktop 5770 is like 30% worse than those two

    Hey marcos669, thanks for pointing this out, I used Passmark for comparison initially.
    1. Passmark
    460 = 2669
    5770 = 1683
    860M = 1811

    2. Then I switched to Futuremark , then the result came out better for 860M.
    460 = 3570
    5770 = 2640
    860M = 5120

    Both of comparison system use average method to calculate the score, or perhaps the formula is different but it is rare to see that they both have different result.

    860M can handle GTA 5, but the graphics are too intense for the GPU on high settings, we will see once it comes out. Hopefully it will.

    I'm betting it will handle the game OK in 1080p, between mid and high settings for 30fps. Vsync off, of course.

    Never on ultra, though (just my guess).

    As you mentioned VRAM a number of times: the type of VRAM (GDDR5 or DDR3) is far more important than the pure amount. Though the latest fans like Shadows of Mordor need much VRAM on high settings. On the other hand, even the GTX860M won't be fast enough for high settings anyway. Remember, we are talking about a desktop GF750 Ti, basically.

    For your temps: have you tried undervolting the you with XTU? My temps decreased roughly by 5 degrees with that. Pls it's doesn't harm the hardware at all.

    Fortunately it is GDDR5 :D

    I'm still have high hope for my laptop(it is good slice of hardware) i think it will be able to cope with GTA 5 with good results :cool:

    Hey its okay now the temp after 3-4 hour of playing in closed room are steddy betvin 78-86c so no problemo thanks to all help i got ;)

    I have one question about power settings in win 8.1 ,
    namely the fact is when I'm playing on the battery, for example, WoT the fps drops about half , for example, when im playing on D.C the fps is 48-55 but when im playing on battery the fps is 18-25 !?!
    Why is this happening and how do I install it to be no difference whether I'm using D.C or Baterry :cool: ! just to add that i put in power option same no diferent betwen batery or D.C can anyone help dont know why this happen i would like to play on battery same as on D.C adapter ?
    And one little qestion,
    How to disable Nvidia Capture service ? It is alwayse on and really annoys me?

    860M GDDR5 is still almost obsolete... With the 970M available in the $1250 Sager Np8651, these offerings from Asus are junk! They really need to up their game!

    Those drops in fps on battery are caused by the much lower frequencies the CPU uses while not plugged in. Sorry, but there isn't a way around that.

    well, in contradiction to that, I read very much about Clevo barebones, too. and most of the owner were pretty happy about the build quality. sure, we are not talking about Macbook-level, but very solid still.

    plus the new P65x-barebone looks quit sleek and nice, IMHO.

    Posted this in the N551 thread but thought to post it here aswell.

    I have a question about the ASUS N551JM-CN078H.

    Are there different versions around as far as TN / IPS screens are concerned? I want to buy this laptop (see link below) and am afraid it might not have IPS display. I read somewhere that the G551's come with both TN and IPS versions so that's why i'm careful.

    All it says is that it's LED-Backlight, and the specifications listed on these websites are not always fully correct so it could be the one with an IPS display.

    https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/produc...710hq-16gb-win-81-notebook-2758987?tagIds=614

    I can't just buy it and see for myself because the return policies are different in Switzerland.

    Also, are all of them equipped with Maxwell GPUs? Or are there Kepler versions floating around as well? (This particular version has 4 GB GPU)

    I can't comment on the screen. Your best choice is asking the vendor directly.

    But for GPU-Chip, I know for sure that all versions of the Asus N551 as well as G551 do come with Maxwell. The 850M does only exist with that chip. It's solely the 860M, that can come in Kepler as well as Maxwell.

    if you live in US, you can buy it from ncix. They have it for sale last week for 1059$ Usd, but I think its ended.

    need a model number. I researched a lot, and I can sure that g551jm is IPS screen.

    Try setting the wifi to WPA2 AES, and width to 20MHz.
    The other thing is to update the router firmware, and update the WiFi driver on the system.

    Thank you guys for the answers.

    You gave me the idea to update the firmware of my router, was dumb enough to forget that, but that only improved my connection a bit

    on speedtest.net my speed varies, it can fall down to not even 1mbps and after disabling and enabling network again it jumps to 5-8 mbps. Bringing the laptop closer to the router gives me 50-80. I am aware that the further you are from the router the slower the speed but slow speeds just for going a bit further away like a few meters? if thats normal then would upgrading the WLAN card from 7260N to AC change that?

    My router is a horizon samsung router in switzerland with 2.4 and 5 ghz part no. 4039526 let me know if you need more info

    .. which i extended with the newish apple airport express also supporting both frequencies serial no. C86L4535DV2R

    i use channel 36 for 5ghz and 6 for 2.4ghz and WPA2, changed width to 20mhz

    changing the channels around only worsens the speed

    15,6" 1920x1080 IPS
    Intel® Core™ i7-4710HQ
    8GB 1600MHz
    24GB SSD + 1TB HDD
    GeForce GTX 860M 2GB

    So what do we think of this version of G551, price 952 USD? If I add 120:- I get the 17,3" without 24Gb SSD cache.

    Is this something to buy and can it handle games on high settings?

    I would change the VGA. Extra RAM and video ram doesn't matter... The 970M would be much better.
