Just saw some pics from the new Asus G74SX and the thing i noticed is that the "grills" at the back look different.
Hope it doesent affect the cooling. D:

Still wish they choose a high end AMD card or something but lets see how the GTX 560m performs.
(Please dont me a crappy rebrand btw.)

meh... I don't like the new back fan exausters... but I am interested in that new GPU, even if I dount it is stronger than the Gtx 485m???
    Or am I wrong?
Also I don't get why they did not just upgraded the g73 since it's still a Nvidia based unit, still single GPU sistem, still 17.3 screen...
So far it seems to have a way better keyboard and new cooling system...

Mmmmmmmm.... (is it time to sell my g73 already? xD)

According to this review. CES 2011 to Witness the Arrival of NVIDIA's GTX 560M - Softpedia

So, More likely it would be around 5-10% better than the 5870's today.

Fudzilla is heavily Nvidia biased and full of trollz in the comments so be careful about what you read. :(
Still its either the Alienware m17x-r3 or this new contender from Asus that im looking to buy i guess.
Hope i dont have to wait too long.

I'm also in that same problem. But from what I've read, The 6970's would be far better than the GTX 560m.

you see... only 5% performance gain? :S
    That's not enought!
If those info are right then I really don't understand this choice of making another gaming laptop...
I would understand if it was using ADM's GPU... so we would have a g73 with Nvidia and a g74 with adm...

But hey, maybe they are trying to get rid of the G73-3D, at this point it's the only plausible explanation... oh well... seems I'll keep my g73 a little longer :3

    nice find tilla,

the screen looks very nice, not sure if its a real matte screen but its definitly better than the current mirror screens which other brands offer.
The exhaust vents also look pretty mighty, hopefully they will do their job ^^

The only thing (and actually the most importent thing that matters) which is uncertain is the gpu power. With celvo/sager/kobalt offering a gtx485m in their 15" models, i'd expect asus to give a more powerfull gpu in a big 17" monster.

Hmm...well I am not too fond of the new G74....I think the G73 looks alot better....but I do admit the rear exaust looks cool...like it will push some serious air....and the memory looks to be easy to get too since all 4 slots are just under the bottom cover... :)....I am still happy with my G73 and will be for quite a while.... :)

I don't think a 6970m or even 485m will come to the G74 or to this series in general... it's simply not in the price range of the G7x products. I really doubt that Asus will change their successful (at least afaik) gaming notebook concept to a more expensive enthusiast line.

by the card on the video I could read that it's still a 17.3 inch screen model, other info were blurry, but I read a various amount od FHD screens (prolly matte and glossy versions)

20% higher gamut, excellent viewing angles from what I see in the video, and 300 nit brightness.

I think it fits the price range perfectly, since the asus g73 sold for 18-1900€ here in Belgium. For that amount of money I expect the best gpu in the market.

The G73 is about 1500$ in the states as far as I remember... unfortunately the stuff in Europe is more expensive, yes.

But you have to keep in mind that a 485m costs already about 1000$!! The 460m (as in the JW) will "only" set you back about 300 bucks... (Of course it will be a bit less for the OEMs but you get the idea.)

CAll me crazy, but the design changes aren't winning me over. I don't like the new back, nor do i like the new overall look. There is less beveling on the body, and it doesn't look as nice as the 73. I also really don't like the new hinge area.

I know its better hardware, but i actually feel better about my G73.. if only i could get the touchpad to work..

Hmm not feeling the new designe. The outside and inside look abit out of place.

Wonder what kind of battery its got?. The vents have been moved to the center.

Good new is or might be that looking at the second video you do not see a panel for the GPU so a Asus GPU might be in there :) upgrade for G73 maybe possible in the future :)

I dont know about you guys but to me the G74 looks butt-ugly :D. Vents look nice but most of the parts look out of place.
Also looks like no turbo button on this model. Only has ON/OFF and the the lighting button. Could have but a battery setting button on it atleast :(

Looks like a child of a mac, G73 and lamborgini (the vents look like exhaust pipes on the car)

If you see the first page of this thread, Some said that gary key released an information about a refresh model that has amd 69xx series. Maybe it's just for the g73 units? This g74 is equipped with GTX 560m. I hope the refresh of the g73 would equip a 6970m with it.

I wonder if I can swap my current keybo for one of them (got a g73 atm). Probably not, looks like it's part of the topcase, and is wider than the standard G series keyboard everyone has right now.

Looking at the G74, I'd say I'm very proud with my G73JH. Comparing the looks, I'd still go with the G73. Asus still didn't include new interfaces on the G74. There's a lot of space for new interface on the left side but Asus didn't include a new one like expresscard etc.

The red lining on the front side looks awful. Due to that, it doesn't look like a stealth bomber anymore. It looks like a race car when looking from the front. Also, due to the new positions of the fans, the battery is difficult to remove now compared to the G73. In the G73, the battery can be removed by lifting the back part a little and just slide it backwards while holding the sliding lock.

The AC plug is the same as the G73. They should have made it the L-shaped one so that it doesn't interfere with the mouse position if you're right-handed. Though the fans looks powerful, it would be good if the slits/holes below the LCD screen are bigger than the ones on the G73. That would mean more air intake for the exhaust fan.
