I suspect Asus will have Optimus running at some point. It makes absolutely no sense not to.
I'm leaning towards a r3 for an updated/updatable GPU. I don't buy laptops that often.

Somebody just ordered a G73SW-3DE in Sweden. My swedish is not so good, but Google translate returned the article being in stock 50-99 items. Komplett.se - ASUS G73SW 17.3" Full HD 120 Hz 3D.
-
So what is the introductory price tag?
Also, are there both 2D only and 3D versions? -
I tested Black Ops last night and here is the Youtube video:
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NzYCcV0fawU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NzYCcV0fawU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='560' height="340"></embed></object>
The result is identical to G73JW with 740QM.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
That just means that Black Ops isn't CPU limited. Try Dragon Age.

2D version (G73SW-A1) is already in stock at few retailers, for 1849 USD. I have seen the 3D version up for presale at one retailer, but the item has been since deactivated, for an unknown reason. The advertised price for G73SW-3DE was 1999, on sale for 1939 free US shipping.
I have also read that "The 3D version of Asus G73SW gaming laptop
, named Asus G73SW-3D will also be launched in a few days". I don't know, though, how reliable this is.

What's the resolution on the G73SW 3D version?
-
I would imagine it will be a 1080p 3D Screen, just like the G73JW-3DE
Any less would be unacceptable. -
i hope that the 3d Version will have the same "non glossy" Display like the JW one.
-
I'll enahance sensor monitoring for this model and add monitoring of 2 additional fans (CPU and GPU probably) in the next HWiNFO32 build.
-
Both G73SW-3DE and G73JW-3DE has the same LG502C5 screen. -
Any "inside" information or expectations on when GTX 560M will arrive Ken? Or when Asus will feature new GPU in G-series other than 460M?
-
Thank you but here in Germany there ist a jw3d Version with glossy Panel.
-
I don't see GTX560M on Asus roadmap but I just tested GT540M on N53SV, it does support Optiums with new i7 but not sure why Asus won't enable Optimus G73SW.
I am sure it must have different screen than North America version.Attached Files:

@gentechpc
Yes my g73jw 91173 has the lg Display non Glossy but there is anotherone One here with the Number 91109 and this is with glossy. The Number of the 3D Version from the g73sw here in Germany is 91101 and i Hope that this will have the non glossy because think about to send my jw back because i have 30 days Return on Amazon.de and buy than the 3D sw. But i'm Not sure -

The G73SW-3DE is expected to have the same resolution and display as the current G73JW-3DE. -
dude, an upgrade for the processor on this notebook is only an extra $160
wow. How cheap considering the power difference.
Its too bad though, price it a bit much for me to add 8gigs of ram and 1tb and blueray reader and upgrade to at least 470m
well, I'll wait a year or 2, then maybe the i9's will be out, then I'll sell my g73 xD -
Hey Guys,
what do you prefer me? should i send my g73jw-3DE back to amazon and buy a g73sw-3de? i am very happy with my jw but because i can send it back between 30 days after buying it from amazon. or will there be not so much performance for games with the sandy bridge? -
Sandy bridge will not make any difference in most games.
That being said there are some CPU heavy games (like dragon age) -
But at the same time the new chipset gives you a better roadmap to upgrade going forward if you want to.
-
I hope so. My G73SW 3D should arrive this Tuesday.
-
Where did you buy it?
-
How do i check this number? I search and did not find it.
Thank you! -
Its only here in Germany with the numbers. Example
In us it is asus g73jw-A1 3de and here One of those
Asus g73jw-91173 -
Any info about the g73sw model should be redirect to the owners lounge thread , as we are already a handful of people who own it.
-
-
Wow...this they sure put this in systems fast!
I'd assume the CPU is a minimum of about 27% faster...except possibly better than that since it's 32nm so can probably keep itself clocked higher more...maybe. -
Looks like they upgraded the blu-ray to 4X in the SW-91101; it is only 2X BLU- RAY in the JW-3DE.
-
The German G73SW-91101 has just a BD reader, the US G73JW-3DE has a writer.
-
Hello everyone! Just wanted to chime in here and say thank you for all of the very helpful information and comparisons being posted about the new vs old G73s. After thinking about it I am going to pick up a G73SW.
I do have a question about them though if anyone has an answer. I've been reading about the G73JH laptops and it seems like they had several models sent out to the major resellers (X*1 models) and I was wondering if the same thing can be expected from the G73SW. The reason I ask is because I don't need some of the options that area available on the high end G73SW-A1 model. For example I don't need a blue ray player since I don't even own a blue ray nor do I have any interest in them. Nor do I need 2 hard drives. I'd rather pay a little less since this is already a stretch to convince my wife to afford a G73JH.
Thanks! -
Yes, this always happens, but never at first. It took about 8 months before best buy got watered down models, and about 5 months after launch before amazon got them.
Generally, it's the -A models first, for awhile. Then you get -X models. -
Thanks! Hopefully I can nab one of the remaining G73JH models. From this thread people are showing it doesn't make much difference in gaming performance. Battery life doesn't matter to me. I just need something that has great FPS in hotel rooms plugged into a power source.
Any opinion on if prices for the JH models will drop soon? -
If you are looking for cheaper choice I would recommend refurbished g73jh(bestbuy version). I just bought refurbished g73jh rbbx05 for 1000$ and shipped it to here in Mongolia for 100$. Luckily mine came with ddr3 1333mhz and LG screen and it didn't show any sign of use. Since most games are today dx10 5870m will perform better and since g73jh is released first among g73s, its problems are solved. All you have to do is flash vbios, bios. I don't mind 3 months warranty since you can check most this in warranty period. Sometimes newegg.com sells this model for below 900$.
-
G73SW-A1 now available and in-stock through Amazon US (Amazon is the actual seller not a third-party).

With the 2 year warranty to boot. -
I like to see this thread to come alive again for the next few weeks with the news of the new FIXED sandy bridge sw's with a new generation of GPU!
-
I have an issue that through the pdf manual it does not state. Can you in the SW version disable the onboard video? I had a sandy bridge samsung for a week and could not get it done. There was no option in the bios to set it. It's a real pain because I am a dj and my program will only give me one option for video card adapter and it's always intel hd graphics adapter. So will the asus have that option in the chipset page of the bios?
-
The G73SW 3D should be in Europe on 18 Feb.
-
Just curious what was the US price before it was pulled?
-
Think it was like 17, 1800 maybe? I might be thinking of JW though
-
It might have been $1750-1850?
Regarding the GPU, I presume the integrated video is just disabled...at least I hope it is. -
It is. It's not the right mobo that supports switchable graphics thats why.
-
Where'd you get the case on that? I looked at Intel's info on the HM65 and it looks like it should support it. I kinda assumed that it wasn't enabled because the platform is still a bit immature and some games have problems with Optimus.... a fact that would go down pretty poorly for most people buying a heavy hitting gaming laptop.
Regardless, I'm still seeing ~4h battery life while web browsing with the G73SW. Pretty okay with that. -
HM67 is the one that supports SB cpus, right? That's the mobo inside the m17x r3. If G73SW has the same mobo, then you're good.
-
Besides compatibility issues, performance would be worse too. I'm glad to hear it isn't used.
Just wish that 100 million transistors Intel blows on their video would be put to a better use. Could be a bit of a competitive advantage for AMD, if Bulldozer's performance is good enough.
EDIT: Oh, and glad to see Asus pulled the system. They've really been on the ball with the Sandy Bridge launch! (And...err...relaunch)
BIG NEWS!! New Asus Sandy Bridge laptop G73SW IS COMING SOON!!
