@Kingzero
I totally agree with you that if you want to play serious BF3, you need to get 50fps + at the very least because there's a huge gap between 30fps+ and 50~60fps+, it's like you are playing CS with 60fps while the other people are getting 100fps constantly...such a disadvantage.
Anyway, with my cfg I am playing very fluently at 1440x900 (native resolution of my external monitor), texture ultra, everything medium, settings OFF (AA,postAA,blur...) and I am getting 60/70fps constantly, some low peaks about 45/50fps and high peaks 90fps and the game looks very nice also so I am kind of surprised you can't play it rght on your lappy.
Only matters: CPU gets to 86 degrees and GPU 82.

I'm actually worried about my temps. My 5870 hits 95C in BF3 and BC2 hangs randomly.
Do I need repaste my laptop? -
Got my hands on the game this morning. Got to play a bit of the first level. Auto setings were High. It ran realy smooth. Strange is when i turn it to ultra and MSAA to the lowest motion blur off. The game seems to run OK but at random it freezes for a sec.
As some one here said that some setings do not take effect before restart it will be realy choppy after i get to play again later. Just turned it to ultra in the middle of the game.
My temps were OK
near 73c the fans speed up but for a few sec. On the cooling pad temps are near 68-70c -
I also agree. I haven't played the single player and probably never will. That kind of stuff bores me to tears.
However, to play the multi at a level that I find acceptable (in terms of FPS) I have lowered my settings quite a bit. I'm running at 720p with everything set to medium (and the more advanced settings are OFF (AA, AF, etc)).
Am I really upset about the fact that I can't play at the max resolution/settings? Not really, I understand that this is a brand new game/engine and it's going to really shine on some super high end hardware.
I am actually really enjoying the fact that at the settings I've chosen, it runs really well and still looks very good in my opinion.
I look forward to playing more/getting better because at the moment, I am a complete dog at this game lol.

Obvious sign of a bad repaste done by Asus. 95°C is not that critical, however, I would consider repasting, since those temps will, on the long term, degrade your hardware faster than lower temps. Repaste if you feel upto it, if not, send it in to a local certified tech shop and let them do it for you
.
-
I use a sidebar gadget to monitor my GPU temps however since I'm only using one monitor, the gadgets aren't visible while I'm gaming.
Does anyone have any software that they use that has an overlay in game of the current GPU temps? I remember using something in the past for the Geforce GTX 295 which got super hot.
Thanks! -
Many thanks. I will check into this.
Anyone up for sharing their Origin usernames so we can friend each other up? -
I will once I have the game !
-
THANK YOU! I don't understand how people fail to understand this. Anything under 50 FPS puts you at a SEVERE response time disadvantage in any FPS. To a lot of people, it's not fun to get your head stomped in every time you play because every target you engage is faster than you. CS is a perfect example where 60 FPS cannot compete with 100FPS. Although modern engines run differently, it is still imperative to run at least 60 FPS in order to have any chance of winning a head-to-head gunfight.
-
Thanks for the advise. I'll look into repasting or RMA it. How long will the RMA process take? If not I'll grab a mate and repaste together.
It wasn't like this when I first got it as it's only 88 at most with Furmark. Could be dust clogging up but I have cleaned it with air compressor. It went down a bit but still a bit high where it's 90 at most.
Do note my ambiance temp is about 28C as it's spring in Australia. It's getting warmer and I have no air con.
Add me on Origin/Steam/Battlelog: Cheesenium. I play on Aussie and South East Asian servers. -

Picked it up today at Best Buy, ordering the 7.1 USB External Soundcard for G73 also. Can't wait for MW3 also! -
Never had such issues and I did play BC2 since it was released at constant 60 fps. The only issue I had was with hit detection which was a widespread issue and not related to whether you had 60 fps or not.
So you can remain confused, cause there are plenty like me, who believe what you believe is bs. -
Also, does anyone have the sound problem where the sound fade in and out for no reason? Its like suddenly the tank engine sound gone mute for 30 seconds, then it come back after that.
Where do i get the newer Realtek drivers? -

This game is currenly having the sound problem, when you shoot the gun , you probably can't hear anything. Same thing happen to tank engine and jet engine.
Haven't seen on Helicopter yet.

Hi all,
I just caught up with this thread and am a little disappointed
I haven't been able to START the retail game OR the beta. I'm running the G73JH with win7 pro and the 5870Gfx with Asus drivers.
I get to the browser screen, click on any of the game modes, the little box in the bottom left says initializing, then goes back to "you are up-to-date".
Has anyone here seen this on our beloved laptops? It's really frustrating me! -
Tell you what, play me on CS 1 on 1 at fps_max set to 60, or BF 3 set to medium and see if its BS. You've clearly never played in a league before if you think what we're saying is "BS".
-
Ah, so its the game then. Not me.
One less problem to worry.
-
Yes, I can't load the game either. I believe it is an ATI problem, here is my windows event log.
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 3\bf3.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\atidxx32.dll -
I have never heard of this problem before, but it would explain why I get pwned all the time
Seriously though, didn't know this. Could you find some examples (video's or something) so we can all understand what exactly it is you mean ? -
can someone with 920xm and 1080p version of G73JH post FPS on LOW settings in MP, not SP? with 720qm i'm getting 40-45 in multiplayer.
-
This is the first response I've had to this that has moved me forward. Thanks, unfortunately it hasn't moved me MUCH forward considering we are stuck with the drivers that ASUS release for this thing...
Anyone know a workaround yet? another driver perhaps that wont just crash my system? -
Hey how are you guys able to play the game? I am running a g73jh as well with the ati 5870 gpu. I cannot play both the multiplayer and campaign as it just says "battlefield 3 has stopped working" everytime i try to load the game. I got the limited edition BF3 from amazon if that helps.
-
I was having the same problem. I installed the newest drivers and after restarting my computer it started up fine.
-
So at 900p All Ultra and HBAO on and the only thing turned off is AA and I see a comfortable 40-50fps dropping to 37 occasionally.
All that worry it would not run on the JH for nothing people
My 920XM is getting burned though I think Frostbite likes the CPU. -
can you please give me the link for the newest driver? thanks!
-
Hello,
This might be a very dumb question, but can you play BF3 in single player but on multiplayer maps, like with bots? In game menu I have only Campaign mode.. What am I missing here guys?
Thanks in advance! -
AMD Catalyst? 11.10 Preview Driver Version 2
That's what I'm currently using. I believe they are going to be releasing an official driver as well very soon. -
For guys who cant run BATTLEFIELD 3 at all I have solution maybe. Just remove from name of folder little TM. Just try. It helped me.

Holy cow 1080p chews it up with 900p and all of my settings on Ultra including HBAO but just AA turned off im getting 39-47fps throughout swordbreaker.
I am wondering how much the 920XM is influencing my FPS. Anyone with the same setup as me and 800/1100 900p can compare with a 720QM please. I notice no change from Turning HBAO to off but turning on AA just destroys my frames. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Switching from HBAO to SSAO/Off should be a huge difference mate, how possibily you could havent noticed it.
Hbao takes around 4fps hit, SSAO around 2.
Anyway i dont have an old gen core, but just my trusty 2630qm and a weaker card than yours.
At 900p/ultra/hbao everything else off (like your settings) ive got 40-43fps of average, being 35 the lowest and 54 the highest.
Caspian reports 38-41 of average, being 32fps the lowest.
I can get the same performance at 1080p with auto settings (Textures to ultra, all the rest Medium, SSAO, post blur medium).
On Seine Bridge multi map im doing around 45-50 of average, being 38 the lowest. Enough to say that going from 45 to 38 feels like going from 30fps to 10fps.
Thats all i can do
-
As I just said I see no difference in hit from HBAO to SSAO and only a 1-2FPS hit to turning it off. I have tested it in many scenes and the difference is next to nothing. AA punishes me by about 10-15fps on x2 or x4 so im keeping that off.
I dont use Blur at all I dunno if that makes a difference. I wouldn't say the 460M is a weaker card either I still deem that it is on par with the 5870M when overclocked and still makes more progress each time an Nvidia driver is updated.
P.s old gen core or not the 920xm still benches 100's of points off the 2630qm 8) -
Just did the first flying mission.
It just became an amazing game
-
Fed Ex'll better hurry.... unless they want me to park some rockets in their vans...
-
You always think when you look at the graphics in games improving that eventually it will appear real life, this is not there yet but there are most certainly aspects of real life graphically on many occasions in the flying mission I was like woahh
that just looked too real. Also the sound effects are spot on man I am so glad I managed to get my sub back before Chastity had to close her Driver page
Of course some textures they have had to put less work into so that the requirements were not silly but still Frostbite 2 is certainly a step up.
The JH handles it perfectly Schockie yours will certainly do the business with your super bandwidth
A few updates and it will run comfortably at 50-60fps.
-
Stop making me jealous. Don't make me come over there and steal your copy
No but seriously, that's awesome news Dallers. Remember the time people were panicking cause they thought they wouldn't be able to play BF3...well those times are over! Welcome to the era of 73'pwnage !
ps: we should make a clan, like a 73Jh clan!
Damn I'm so full of great ideas today
-
Dont trust delivery companies especially when its released on a weekend man!
I wanna complete the SP before starting multiplayer
-
Its been 5 minutes... finished the SP yet ?
Yah, I ordered the game like 3 months ago, they shipped it (from the UK) on the 24th, so I'm hoping when I get home on monday, Santa payed my mailbox a visit ^.^ -
Na this weekend for BF next for MW and then the rest of the year for Skyrim
Man hope it arrives tommorow for you! -
Does the problem only occur in 'Rage' ?
You got the standard upgrades like the bios, vbios, ati-drivers?
There maybe a few things you can try before you send it in to RMA it. -
The big problem is a lack of communication. If only the techies knew what the users would know, there wouldn't be as many problems right now.
I'd say, just RMA it, and put a paper between the laptop saying what the problem exactly is, that way the tech's who will study the problem know what they have to do
.
-
Errr... wait for Chastity to come back, she'll know what to do
-
Well, I set my highest OC's and could only just pull a 40 fps average at all high @1080p, but not in the biggest of maps/battles :/ so I bit the bullet and dropped my resolution to 900p and it now even reaches into the 50's at times (though only about 35-40 for the 64 player epic battles); its increased my average a good 5-10 frames which surprised me.
My K/D is the worst its ever been in any game Ive played aha I think thats in part to me creating my own control scheme and having to relearn the game for that; and then not having a squad.
If anyone is up for teaming up; I think you can all guess what my username is <-----
lol
-
I'll bet that we'll see a 5fps-minimum increase in upcoming ATI drivers
And yah, I'm up for it! (once fedex decides to deliver the game) -
CrappyAlloy doesn't seem to work for "Add a friend"
-
PhnX: On the battlelog website I can search for CrappyAlloy and find myself...but it says to add it has to be done by name? Im assuming username, not real name but idk. You in North America? (not that it should matter right?)
Anyways, just realized that this whole time ive been playing, my audio out from my laptop has been inverted
idk why, I cannot find a setting for it, but I finally noticed it in BF3 then tested other games and confirmed it. Probably why Ive been doing so bad
oh and spawn killing
that happens more often then it should, thats for sure.
-
Inverted?! How'd you manage to do that? LOL, you'd better get that fixed. That only happens when I put my headphones on backwards
-
Over on the EA Support site someone wrote that
"$:\Games\Battlefield 3\bf3.exe" -sp
would start the single player without going through the browser.
It DID open the application window, but then it closed immediately with a standard windows message of Battlefield has stopped working
BUT, this is further than I've gotten ever before, so there is the slightest bit of hope.... anyone got a clue on how to get to the opening credits? -
I think if you switch origin to offline mode, you can launch campaign without brower/battlelog..
