    Hi all,

I have the JH version with 720qm + 5870m. Cat 11.10 v3 preview installed, the cpu base clock at 151MHz and the gpu at 800/1000.

I played the campaign with these settings (30-45 fps):

The multiplayer I lowered the resolution to 1600x900 to get 45+ fps, generally in the 50-70 range:

    Cheers!

But the game freeze and bump to desktop with bf3 still running. Have to do a crtl-alt-delete to shut it off.

FHD 1080p, AA 4 or 8x, but I don't have HBAO just SSAO. Going to check my settings again later. But when I make everything on Ultra I lag even without HBAO or AA.

I know, I get the same thing. It's not oc-related, its the game itself I believe.
    I play Bf3 on 800x1200, while I could easely play BFBC2 on 800x1300.
A lot of people get this error, and Dice is working on it ;)

Damm, I was playing on 770/1100 and it was pretty stable.
800/1100 usually freeze and bump me to desktop. So I wasn't the one. Furmark is stable for 30 mins burn-in test for 800/1100.

Overclocking to much will lock your laptop, and you wouldn't be able to ctrl+alt+delete. The crash to desktop is connected to the game, not the oc.

Just did a few trial runs, most stable result is 770/1070. Anything higher will bump to desktop, bf3 running but cannot re-enter game.

My gawd, how did you guys get so much fps and running BF3 on higher setting than me.

I am only running BF3 on medium at 720p with average 40fps. No MSAA or anything fancy. It looks butt ugly, IMO.

    Everything on High, except;
    AA Deferred: OFF
    Anistropic Filter: 1x
    Ambient Occlusion: Off

Runs very well and smooth. No lags or whatsoever.
Full screen 1290x1080 with Vsync turned OFF.

Try updating your drivers and system, close every other task running before playing the game.

i am thinking about picking up bf3 for the holiday. frame rates and stability are very important to me. i wonder someone can run a simple frame rate test on bf3 with 5870m stock clock, ccc 11.10, vsync on, 2x aa, high setting and 1280*720 resolution. thanks in advance.

Thanks, i'll give your setting a try.

I am using 11.9, so its should be a good time to upgrade to 11.10.

You can also try lowering the Shadow detail to MEDIUM so you can turn other options to ULTRA. After setting the shadow to medium I increased my fps 45 - 55+. If I set SSAO fps went 35+. In short, Shadow eats fps.

I bought the limited edition of amazon on a pre-order. I do not have the beta version.

I have BIOS 209 and don't really want to flash it to a later version.
Had flashed vBIOS though and upgraded to latest drivers, 11.10 as people state.

But everytime i try load BF3 it crashes, 'BF3 has stopped working'.

Tearing my hair out here... tried all the crummy fixes, going through steam, maximising window etc.

All that is left is the BIOS but i am not confident in doing it and really don't want to. Has anyone got it working on BIOS 209?

Any help would be really appreciated. I want to play this game...

I run textures at high, everything else is low or off. Just makes spotting people easier.

Though there seems to be something unique about these FPS veterans who can spot someone so fast, for me always takes a few seconds.

Did you update your OS? I had my games crashing to death and BSOD, finding that even I updated vBios and other drivers I left my OS untouched without SP1.

    Hi David try This:

    -----------The easy way-------------
Install the game again but when doing so delete the little TM on the end of the offered place where to install ( Battlefield 3™ ) so it looks like this D:/games/Battlefield 3 not D:/games/Battlefield 3™ <<<< This was mine, yours is probably different!

    -----------The hard way-------------
    1) Go to the folder where the installer put BF3 EXE (D:/Games/Battlefield 3/ Battlefield 3™)

    2) Rename the Battlefield 3™ folder to Battlefield 3 - (removing ™)

3)Start regedit , browse to the following key in the left hand pane :

    HKEY LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE/WoW6432Node/EA Games/Battlefield 3
Now go to the right hand pane and Change the GDFBinary and InstallDir paths to D:/Games/Battlefield 3/ Battlefield 3 - again removing ™

*Use backslash instead of forward slash.

This fixed the "Battlefield 3 has stopped working" problem for me.

    Hope it helps you too.

    iemie

    @Razpak
I had issues with my g73jh.
depending on the version of the catalyst driver I had:
11.9 - game froze after a few minutes of play. same with other software.
    11.10 - game wouldn't start.

I downgraded my display driver to 8.683.0.0 and everything worked fine again. except bf3. need version 11.9 or higher.

I flashed my Vbios, restarted. uninstalled my display driver. Used driver sweeper in safe mode to get rid of all old amd display drivers. restarted. downloaded and installed newest drivers (11.11 I think).

everything works perfectly fine so far. let's hope the best.
there is a guide from asus out there on how to flash your vbios if needed. (also bios version 211 or higher is recommended).

    I hope this helps!
    Cheers

I play on all low settings at 720p and get 60-100 FPS, on 1080p I get around 30-50.

that sux, i have my g73 hooked to 23" monitor and playing in 720p looks awful.
i hope they fix that game so it can be playable normal, this is bull.
there is no f way that g73 is underpowered for bf3 @low settings on 1080p.

The game just needs to be patched, I am having issues even on my SW.

However, when it does run, I get solid framerates when I play at 900p with high texture/medium everything else, and it looks nearly identical to all high settings, in my opinion.

Hello. I have an ASUS G73JH-A1, and i can't get BF3 running, when i execute the game it just exits qith an error. Can anyone tell me please which driver are you using? And another question i have. I noticed that if unninstall the original driver which came with my laptop and try to install the one provided by ATI at the website i just doesn't work, so i guess i have to install the original one first, and then update it with the packages i got from the site (11-11_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe). Then i have download version 11.11 from the ATI website , when i try to install it i get an error. Can anyone tell me please how to update my ATI driver. Thanks

    This is my error description:

I did not have to flash the vbios (i have a G73jh-A1 one of the first ones with its original vbios: 012.017.000.004). I did download this driver http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/catalyst_11.11_hotfixes/amd_catalyst_11.11b_windows_vista_7.exe and that was all. I also upgraded my laptop bios, but i don't know if that matters. I think the problem is that at the ATI site all you get is the "Catalyst Control Center" update, not the driver and maybe that's what you are downloading. Download this link i provide here, remove your ATI driver and install this new one. I hope this can solve your problem. Here i post my video settings and my top temp on the GPU. The game runs perfect.

Hey all, I am having a problem with this game and my G73

Every time I start the game, either single player or multiplayer, after a few minutes the screen will freeze and I will see my mouse cursor. This can take anywhere from 2 - 15 minutes regardless of server.

I have the Catalyst 11.11 drivers. Temps are well within range and yet it still freezes.

It really sucks paying $60 for a game and not being able to play it...
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wondering if there is an NBR clan or server going? How is BF3 on the JH online? i found it quite acceptable when i played the single player.

The game runs and looks beautiful for me, but I still get crashes that require a hard reboot. The crash may take anywhere from 0-60 minutes to happen. It's not temperature or overclock related, because I've run the game at stock and OC with no difference. Temps are at 80C for video and 80-83C for cpu when overclocked. I have the latest drivers for everything, latest firmware for my Crucial M4 SSD, latest firmware on GPU. I've only played the game about 12 hours since Black Friday as a result of this.

I see the occasional hard lock up from it but it is only once in a blue moon have you updated it since it last happened? Maybe it was game related.

Also if you are running your XM high it could easily be that you could try lowering your multipliers and see if that makes a difference. Its a great game once you get into it online.

Yeah, I tried after the update last weekend. No difference. Like I mentioned previously, cpu/gpu overclocking has no affect on the lock ups. I'll be playing the game and suddenly everything locks up, the sound constantly repeats whatever the latest sound was (really annoying), and I have no control over anything on the laptop. It requires holding down the power button for several seconds to power down. It appears to be an isolated occurrence with my laptop, not a widespread problem. That makes it much harder to solve :(

The game is nice, but the frequent lock ups are enough of a deterrant to keep me from playing.

I am mostly top but only because of my medic skills. I normally come out of a game even on kills and deaths and gain my score from heals and zaps!

    No pain no gain :D

If you're experiencing crashes and getting the VSOD (vertical screen of death) in Battlefield 3 and you have an Asus G73JH laptop, please refer to this link where a member from Asus tech support shows how to update your vbios and install the latest AMD ATI video drivers to resolve this issue.

My BF3 keeps freezing the PC 5-20 minutes after the start. I did tried a lot of solutions on the internet, and i think it has to do with Realtek audio - when i disable all audio, BF3 works fine, just without sound....

Are there any solutions that could help in this case?

(P.S. i downloaded the newest drivers, changed audio settings - noting helped...)

    thanks
