It helps with some games. Modern games that use OpenAL are the most likely to benefit from having EAX support. These are usually games that use the Unreal Engine 3.
Otherwise, a lot of older games used EAX and OpenAL too. Jedi Academy for example sounds great with EAX4.
A lot of modern games do the same kind of thing as EAX fully in software now. It's not that demanding for modern PCs. That's also why Creative can make this Audigy MB software as it is entirely software driven. There's no hardware for it in the G73.

This fix worked for me for a few days, last night the laptop locked up after around 5 minutes of use continually, no problems with bass booster or EAX or anything before then. Had to uninstall and now is working fine.
BIOS 211
Latest Realtek & Creative audio, all components installed. -
(Now I wonder why Asus offers us just the Audigy MB and Dell offers the X-Fi MB to non-gamer laptop as Dell Studio 15) -
Uninstall Realtek Drivers. reboot.
Uninstall Creative. reboot.
Ccleaner (and tuneup utilities if you have it). Run Driver sweeper. reboot in safe mode.
Run Driver sweeper again and Cclenaer to remove any trace of Creative and realtek. reboot.
Now your system is free of creative and realtek.
Install realtek 2.52 and creative from your disk using the asus install utility (or just the asus driver autorun)
Last time in other system with Creative software, after the unistall of the software I found over 520 traces of data in the in the windows registry which make reference to creative. It's install as a spiderweb in your computer. -
Does the attached screen shot look the same as others?Attached Files:

Ok so I found a Creative X-Fi trial and figured what the hell... I uninstalled/cleaned the Creative Audigy software off my computer and installed the X-Fi.
Bass Boost can be enabled, EAX is there, CMSS-3D is there. I still cant figure out why it doesn't work with the Audigy software.
I haven't had a chance to raise the volume to test the difference (I'm at work now).
Unfortunately it's only a 30 day trial and costs $30 to purchase.Attached Files:

What's the link for the trial?

Here's a non-annoying link. -

OMG!! dude so much thanx I had the same issue with the bass option instantly crashing the app but I don't get how come this trial-ware works and the app that is intended for the laptop does not???
-
Because the original application wasn't certified for Windows 7
We have the original version of the original MB software. Ist olde! -
-
is there some new software then which is not a trial? Asus's software is a little old.
-
There is any way to make it worth for free. I mean, I'm not promoting piracy, but is awful by asus to gave us and older version of creative MB software and currently all Dell laptops came with X-Fi MB version, which is newer and win7 certified. IN addition to that, Daniel-K make and compatible version of this software, it's not coming right from creative. It's offers as trial WITHOUT official support.
-
Does any one know if this helps with the random static issue?
More background on the static issue here.. ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- G73JH-A1 Sound Issues (the dreaded static problem)
I'm trying to detmine if there is a software fix for this or if I am going to have to RMA it and hope they replace it with one that works. -

Here's a copy of an email I sent to Gary on the subject:
-
Thanks Chastity.
Is this the official version (30 day) or the "Daniel-K" version? -
to jeprira: this version is from Daniel-K, he made from ans asus supreme mobo and made compatible for all win7 installation, because many dell users complying when the made the vista-win7 upgrade the software became useless and they should buy them again to use it. With this trial, they just need to use the serial that came with cd installation. The awful part is they can use the serial no more than three times because they must activated the software online, since the activation is hardware-linked. So, if the reinstall many times, the must pay again.
PS: I have one of this serial since a dell computer's friend crash and he gave all the software to test. One of them was the X-Fi MB cd for dell. I was unable to install in my g73 (hardware not found!?!?!?! since is software) and using the same 1.1 version (just posted here too) the serial was invalid -
This is the one released by Daniel K, which is supposedly a slightly later build than the one posted by Creative.
-
As a little history, this develop start when Dell users trying to upgrade to win7 from vista realize the soft became useless. So Gigabyte post one version of Audigy in its website and user slightly started to modify it (the inf files) to make it full compatible with win7 (creative do not support even the x64 versions) and allow dell user to make theirs software work in win7, since the already had the original keys. Lastly, Daniel-K grab a X-Fi MB version from asus supreme mobo and made it compatible with win7 and released it as trial, so you still need to activated online by a serial hardware-linked. -
Ok, I was incorrect about Daniel_K's package. He did modify it with some newer library files to make it Win7 compatible. I would also like to add that it works very nicely. This also means the normal X-Fi MB package is NOT certified for Windows 7. Only the X-Fi MB2 package is.
I find it very amusing that Asus gives away the X-Fi MB2 package with the ROG motherboards (aka Rampage III for example) but not their flagship ROG laptops, which cost a heck of a lot more.
(Amused, as in irked and annoyed) -
I don't think we should pay at all. Its Asus's job to give us up to date and compatible software so we should be getting this upgrade free.
-
This is still Creative software, which means that it's very likely still buggy. And the features probably vary little because I wouldn't be surprised if this is almost entirely just a rebranding of the Audigy software. For ex, I don't think EAX5 will be supported because their cheap X-Fi fakey cards that have no DSP don't support it either.
For music, the rest of the Creative functionality can be duplicated and done better with Winamp and other audio players. Crystalizer definitely included. I suggest looking up Izotope Ozone for Winamp.I also recommend HeadPlug for headphone listeners as it does a fantastic bit of improving the soundstage in a subtle but wonderful way (Ozone can duplicate what it does tho).
If I wasn't interested in EAX4 for some old games, I would just run the Realtek drivers straight up because they will "just work". -
I'm so tired of geeks (I mean that endearingly <3 ) ragging on Creative just because of Creative's marketing department. The Crystalizer is just a multiband compressor and nothing more. It is unnecessary but if you like it, turn it on. I go back and forth with on my X-Fi cards.
I like the X-Fi hardware for the outputs, but the X-Fi MB package would rule just for the resampling and EAX restoration. Bass boost is a nice touch but isn't critical. The lack of bass on the G73JH is just due to the inability to put a bigger "subwoofer" in a laptop. Frankly, I'm happy they put a 3rd driver at all, rather than being like Sony and giving us two horrible little tweeters and calling them "speakers".
I'd like to see ASUS give us the X-Fi MB package in place of the Audigy package, just for the Windows 7 support. More importantly, I'd even contact support to get it, if that's what it took. I understand why they probably won't just upload the application to their site, since we'd each need a key anyway, the better choice would be to have us call support and them ship us a disk with key in a week's time. -
X-Fi MB2 is the only official one with Win 7 support. There is a MB 1.1 release, but it is unofficial. As for a key, the installer can do it w/o online activation.

Okay when the 30 day trial ends X( then what can someone create a Creative suite update request topic so gary can see how desperate we are to have a fully (Finally) functioning G73 with no issues
and the vbios fix made this Laptop 95% perfect .

What Creative software does the G73JW come with?
-
The JW comes with the Creative X-Fi MB2 package.
We're stuck with the lame old Audigy HD 1.0 Not-Made-For-Windows7 BS and the new one gets the latest version....
WTH?! -
Can the Creative software suite on the JW be used on the JH?
-
-
in the JW support page , there are no creative drivers. Maybe someone can contact quadzilla or someone with a JW to upload their creative software from driver disk...
-
@sean473: you're so adorable when you give tech support. It's like watching a puppy attack a ham bone.
-
    .... thats 4 my humor support....neways going to pm Q since so many r SCAred to...
-
uhm, he posted a link to it already
-
The obvious next question: Anybody try the Creative X-Fi MB2 from the JW on the JH yet?
I tried a copy from a Asus Rampage MB; but that didn't work.
Nevermind found this thread:

Dont be scared to PM me i promise i dont bite (all the time)
...
But yeah i posted the disc and the drivers separately, it was later discovered all useless ... I tried though . -
Even though the Audigy stuff for our JH is old as the hills, it does work fine on my system. No lockups or crashes as I have come to know from Creative stuff. (been using all the EAX crap since the SBLive X-Gamer 5.1, Audigy 2ZS, X-Fi Platinum, etc.)
-
still waiting for JW creative software...
-
Lol its already been uploaded .......

-
Hey guys, are you able to help me out. I have installed the creative software as per this this thread. i have gone to start the control centre and I get a mesasage that says.
