Man soooooooo much better with the fix. Running the bass boost with the Creative software and gaming is even more fun now!
Soooo... just noticed 2.53 drivers are available! -
Well I just put the ASUS CD that came with the laptop in and ran the setup again for the Creative stuff. Did a full install and now I can enable bass boost, and my EAX, and CMSS-3d are there.
Before I just had the speakers and mixer icons, and bass boost just crashed the program.
Gonna download Steam now and see how that goes.

....and gone they are the "freezes"..
scared the out of me!
Got random freezes, have skype installed and the Firefox skype plugin. With the driver 2.52 freezes are gone -
Hi, i got a 48v with 211 Bios & vBios. I have cool temps and everything runs perfect......hmmm not everything....hmmm ahh where is the bass?!? ^^
After a complete new installation of Win 7 Home Premium 64 Bit with new drivers like the Vista_Win7_R254_x64 from Realtek and the Creative drivers from the original DVD, the Creative tool says that no compatible hardware is availible/was found.
What did i wrong? I already reinstalled all audiodrivers and cleaned up with driversweeper, ccleaner & vitregistryfix. But the error wont go away.
If i install the Realtek SRS driver from the Asus site i got another audiodevice but nothing works as it shoulds.
Thx for help
(i am german so if you speak ger. too i can describe the problem much more detailed...just tell me) -
-
@Asus: We need a solution please.
PS: and i get random freezes......is the "fix" not kompatible with the new driver?
Edit: random freezes fixed with a new hdd bios! -
Can someone post me download link for working realtek/srs/creative drivers, all together?
Thank you -
Ok..do u have the driver disk???if not download the realtek drivers off asus website not the SRS one the first one.....After uninstall all the audio drivers be it creative or/and realtek..Restart pc and clean registry with any 3rd app u have CCleaner is good though...Then first instal the realtek drivers....restart then install the creative drivers...restart....You can now install the newer realtek drivers 2.54..(installing the 2.54 u have to run it 2 times..first time it removes the old drivers the second time installs the new drivers)....Now u have ur creative audio centre working.....cheers mate...

I have Asus CD Drivers V. 3.0...But it doesn't run,as like they didn't install anything on it... -

HEY OTHER GUYS HOW DID U FIXED IT?
cant be that we 2 are the only ones with the problem. -
Hope Asus will fix this soon -
There is no problem for other 60% users...if there were u would see us whining everywhere on this forum...The only thing is that u guys might be using the creative software on the asus website which by what i know seems not to find the any supported hardware..If u have the driver disk its js simple...Uninstall all audio drivers and reboot..then install realtek and creative from the disc...U can then update to the newest R2.54.....Here is a link to the driverdisc provided by Chastity... link if u dont have i bet u can download from there..Let me try to upload only the Creative for u if u find the other one toooo big...Cheers...
PS..dont use the realtek SRS one until creative has found ur hardware...
Updloaded the creative from driverdisc... creative -
Thanks for LINKS...

-
after a complete new install of win 7 and all other drivers i uninstalled the used windowsdrivers for the audiodrive. i cleaned up with vit registryfix & ccleaner after a driversweeper scan. than i installed the original dvd realtek driver and restarted. than i used the original dvd creative driver with out the mediacenter. i can do this with out any errors about incompatible drives. than i restarted again and tested the new settings. but when i open the control center i get an error about missing hardware/ is not installed blablabla.... after the error i tryed the newest realtek hd audio driver from there website. but i dosnt changes anything. i startet all as 64 Bit and with Admin rights.
and i am not a pc noob......

After I installed Realtek HD Audio drivers v2.54 (previously removing old drivers + reboot + driver sweeper + reboot) I got the following log error in world of warcraft:
-
JehutyZeroshift Notebook Evangelist
I just did what the very first post on this thread and the lock-ups, freezes or hang-ups ended. Actually, I just did it just now.
I downloaded the High Definition Audio Codec which is the Version 2.54 one for Vista, Windows 7 Driver (32/64 bits) Executable file, and then double clicked the exe file to uninstall the stock Realtek Driver, then rebooted, then double clicked the same exe file, then rebooted. No Driver Sweeper or whatsoever, just did what the very first post said. And the hang-ups that I'm always encountering (on YM login, DownThemAll downloading, etc) finally ended! -
have u done this on a fresh installed os or on the original partitons with all the crapy software?
can somebody make another tutorial ? maybe with video or screenshots.......might be that im just to stupid......-_-^^ -
i dont wanna ask anymore but we need to fix this.
-
Fresh OS install? Install the stock drivers from the driver/utility disk. Then get the newer audio codec from Realtek.com. Do the two-reboot uninstall/install process and you should be good to go. Fixed the only problem I ever had, which was the Steam lockup. -

Hi guys..I've got the G60JX and having the exact same problem..when I run creative Audigy driver it's says no compatible hardware found..so I was wondering if the G73 solution applies to my G60??
note that the sound is working OK barely using the realtek driver codecs..but I'm just buggy cuz it's there on the official site for the G60 so Y not!! -
JehutyZeroshift Notebook Evangelist
If you have created recovery disks (via Asus AI Recovery Burner) when you first got your laptop just like my brother did to both of our G73s, I'd recommend you to use those recovery disks (be sure to back up your important files coz they'd be lost if you don't) then try the solution again (from DRevan's post). -
today i tryed it again and now it workes....i dont know why because i did exactly these steps hunderet times before.
the panel works now but im really frustrated! no crystalizer?!? no "ONLY" bassbox modifikations?! if i set the basslevel up the speakers changes to!!in my old notebook i got an external creative notebook X-FI and THAT was a soundcard, with harman/kardon speakers that was awsome sound and now?????..... g73 is lame
sorry for flameing
Edited some days later:
is that me or is the sound really so bad?!
i mean "heyyyy eXtra bassbox insinde" but its only weak!!!!! -
btw 2.55 is out

Guys, a little help here please, 'cos I'm overwhlemed with all the info about the audio driver options/creative bundles for my G73JH
1) we have the original/stock option: realtek drivers + creative Audigy, right?
2)then we have the option of updating realtek drivers to 2.55 (dont know if we can use the Creative bundle with this option)
3)then we have the 2.48 hack drivers to use the Creative X-FI MB1 [this is the one I'm using]
4) on the G73JW they use some type of Creative THX drivers. Can that be used otn G73jH too?
As you see there seem to be many options or am I just confused. Please correct me if necessary and tell me. Is the 3rd one (hacked drvers + CB XFI MB1) the wises option? Are there any more options that Im unaware of?
And just for the record what the heck is EAX 4.0, THX and all that Blahblah?
thanks! -
I'm with Serlex. I'm reading through this thread, so I'm not a lazy reader. But if someone who's already up to date can suggest what a current acceptable setup is and confirm that it is stable, that would be MUCH appreciated. Especially with the release of the 2.55 Realtek drivers and the new BIOS solutions for the touchpad/keyboard/GSOD fixes, I'm a little overwhelmed.
Also, I've seen several Creative programs/suites being mentioned, ranging from Audigy to X-fi to Crystalizer. I have a discrete X-fi card from my desktop so I understand what it does for me there, but what does all this software do for the G73 notebook? Even simple summaries on what EAX, THX, etc does for the G73 would help me at this point.
Again, many thanks in advance to whoever can help me and Serlex out. -
My reason for trying out the X-Fi MB 1.1 package was to get some stability compared to our original Audigy Advanced HD MB software on Win 7. However, you will need to hack it, or buy a license for the software to use it after 30 days.
I managed to find a Win7 update for the Audigy MB software, so that problem was solved for me. The X-Fi MB package adds an updated interface + Crystalizer support, which doesn't interest me. The X-Fi MB2 package adds Crystalizer + THX + EAX5 support + native Win 7 support. This makes it a worthy update.
The significance of teh Creative software is that it gives you EAX support via Alchemy for games that can take advantage of this. (mostly older games) It also includes CMSS-3D for surround, which works very well in conjunction with headphones, if setup properly. -
I had a couple more groups of questions though, if I may.
1. Where can I find this Win7 update for the Audigy MB software that you mentioned, is there a trick to installing it for stability (like how in this forum, it's explained to install stock Realtek and Audigy, then have the latest Realtek uninstall and install 2.55), and does it run well? What does it add over the stock Creative Audigy MB software that came on the stock ASUS driver disc?
2. The X-Fi MB2 package intrigues me. Where can I learn more about it? Also, similar to question #1, how do I install it on the G73 so it plays nice with the 2.55 Realtek drivers?
3. What hardware does the G73 have that allows the Creative software to run? Is it just a Realtek on-board audio chip and the Creative software takes advantage of it, or does the Creative software just run audio processing on the CPU, or...?
Thanks again, and sorry for all the questions. You've been a real help so far. -

If you looked at my signature links, you would find the link for the Win7 Update.Click there and you will find the file and directions.

Creative has not released a compile of MB2 as a trial package, so we cannot buy it for ourselves. The ones that are out are tied with a key for specific hardware. Should a trial be made, then it would install and work fine with 2.55.
3. What hardware does the G73 have that allows the Creative software to run? Is it just a Realtek on-board audio chip and the Creative software takes advantage of it, or does the Creative software just run audio processing on the CPU, or...?
It's all software driven, and the CPU does the work. It does not tax the CPU much at all really, especially with multicores. It's designed to coexist with the Realtek audio chip. -
Sweet, that's all I needed for now to feel up to speed with what I need to do next. I'm installing drivers right now after a fresh OS install, and was waiting to find out more before I decided what audio software combo I wanted to go with.
Many thanks to you Chastity, and I hope others will find those answers helpful as well. +rep -
Okay, did a little bit more reading and got even more caught up on the story of Creative, ASUS, and this community. For those that are just now joining this conversation (or skipped to this page), everything about the Creative X-Fi MB2 is explained in Chastity's post back in Sept 20, 2010 entitled " My Petition for getting a Creative MB upgrade on G73JH".
Chastity summarizes what happened in a newer post on Nov 24 so be sure to read that too. In short, Creative left us hanging with older Audigy software that isn't truly Windows 7 compatible, and no X-fi MB2 (which adds many features and is compatible with Windows 7) options at this point, as it looks like the Creative-ASUS negotiations have fallen through -- no updates on an official MB2 offering in a while.
There's a few options that involve hotfixes and patches. Serlex did a good job of listing them above. The hacked X-fi route looks a little more in-depth and sophisticated than I really need right now, so I'll probably use the latest Realtek drives (2.55 as of this post), and apply the update to Audigy that Chastity details in her post here.
I think I'm accurate in the summary I just wrote. If not, let me know and I'll edit it right away. -
That's a pretty decent summary!
Rep for you

I just finished reading all the major audio-related threads here. There's a lot of people experiencing some issues getting the various Creative software packages to "play nice" with the Realtek drivers, causing some various things to not work.
I'm a bit new to the forums here, but I noticed a general "trick" that has helped reduce issues in the Creative apps, so I'll reiterate it in case it helps anyone. These steps have been shown to work in some cases, for either installing the Creative Audigy software mentioned in this thread, or the Creative X-Fi that is explained in another thread/guide.
Again, the following is just my observations from others, I can't promise this will work for you. If in doubt, go back and follow the OP (original post) guides exactly, as this only loosely follows the original guides. This is mostly a "hey, if things aren't working for you, consider trying this" sort of thing.
From what I've gathered, the order generally is the following...
1. Install the old, stock, vanilla Realtek drivers that came on your driver disc or from ASUS' website (V6.0.1.5978 and V6.0.1.6122, respectively).
2. Install the Creative suite of your choice (Audigy from ASUS, or X-Fi from TheMarkness's guide) -- follow the steps from their respective guides.
3. Go to install the newer Realtek audio drivers (2.55 is the official Realtek one, if you get it don't forget the ATI HDMI driver as well; or 2.48 which is the modded Realtek driver that is custom-designed to go with the X-Fi guide) -- this should UNinstall the older Realtek driver from ASUS for you. If not, manually remove it and do any driver/registry cleaning you feel is necessary.
4. Reboot your system
5. Re-launch the newer Realtek audio driver, which actually installs it for you. You may need to reboot again now.
That should do it. BUT, everybody's system handles these things slightly different. If it doesn't work for you, just keep reading through the threads. Someone may have had similar results to yours (for instance, there were MANY different experiences for people trying to get the X-Fi suite installed).
Again, this "trick" I just described seemed to work for both this thread regarding getting the Creative Audigy software to work (worked for Nekki and JehutyZeroshift, click for their posts), and for Nekki again when he was trying to get the Creative X-Fi software to work.
Final note: all links go to threads and posts that I felt were relevant to the topics at hand. File downloads are the exact ones referenced from those other guides, and should be considered for your convenience only. And of course, again if I goofed, call me a noob and tell me what to fix.

Update December 17th 2010: I wanted to put this theory to the test and see if installing the drivers in this order helps with getting the Audigy software to work. I deliberately broke the steps in this guide, and installed the latest Realtek driver (R2.55, Driver Version 6.0.1.6257), and then tried installing the Creative Audigy suite. Sure enough, like many users before, I received the "Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system. Setup will exit." message and the installer exited without Audigy being installed. I made a few attempts to fix this, not all of which had worked. Here's a log of what I did in chronological order, if this helps...
So, I uninstalled the R2.55 Realtek drivers, and went with the original ASUS-provided driver (version V6.0.1.5978, found on the driver disc). It's now saying "Unable to find a compatible SRS Audio Device", but I'm going to continue anyways. After rebooting (and being reminded of the SRS issue via message window), I then went to install the new R2.55 Realtek driver. Its first step was to uninstall the V6.0.1.5978 driver, then reboot. Another SRS issue reminder, ignoring it. Next is to run the R2.55 installer again, which actually installs the driver this time. Reboot. Another SRS issue reminder, augh.
Now for the moment of truth: installing Audigy 1.0... to no avail. Same "unable to detect supported product" message. Windows is again throwing the SRS issue, so I'm going to try a different older driver. This time, the V6.0.1.6122 "SRS" driver, for s 'n giggles. Installed, reboot, use R2.55 to uninstall, reboot, use R2.55 to install new Realtek driver, reboot, try Audigy again, and... nope, same deal. Also, still getting SRS issue reminder. Irritated, I search for the SRS stuff, and it's just a couple shortcuts in the Start Menu. Deleted the cheeky s. A reinstall confirmed it, as the "SRS Device Not Found" message no longer comes up.
Last resort: I'm going to reinstall the audio driver contained on the actual driver disc ISO that Chastity had supplied in the past. Popped in the disc, and navigated to Software\Audio\Realtek\ALC269\Vista32_Vista64_Win7_64_6.0.1.5978 and launched Setup.exe. Installed fine without any SRS crap, rebooted. Launched the R2.55 installer install the R2.55 Version 6.0.1.6257 driver, reboot (I expected it to un-install the 6.0.1.5978, but for some reason it did not prompt this... odd...). Installed the R2.55 Realtek HDMI ATI driver here while I was at it.
Tried the Audigy installer (that I had previously downloaded from the ASUSTek driver page) at this point... and still no good. "unable to detect a supported product" message persists. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU--... So I tried to let the driver disc installing program handle the Creative package, wondering if it would "force" the Creative software to install... and after a few minutes, it chimed "Done. Reboot?" After the reboot, IT WORKS! Creative Audio Center, ALchemy, MediaSource 5, and WaveStudio 7 have all been added and seem to launch & perform properly.
Moral of the story: looks like I should have followed my own guide. D'oh.
So in summary, I recommend installing the following order for getting Creative Audigy and Realtek R2.55 to coexist:
1. Get out your official ASUS G73 driver disc, or download the ISO here (thanks to Chastity for the ISO) and burn it to a DVD
2. Pop in the disc, explore its contents, and navigate to Software\Audio\Realtek\ALC269\Vista32_Vista64_Win7_64_6.0.1.5978 and launch Setup.exe. This installs Realtek audio driver Version 6.0.1.5978
3. Reboot your system (installer prompts this)
4. Get the newest Realtek audio driver (R2.55, which holds the Version 6.0.1.6257 is the current latest, available here) and launch the installer Vista_Win7_R255.exe
5. This un-installs the stock ASUS audio driver (goodbye, Version 6.0.1.5978)
6. Reboot your system (installer prompts this)
7. Re-launch the Realtek R2.55 installer (Vista_Win7_R255.exe), which will now install the newest Realtek audio driver (Version 6.0.1.6257
8. Reboot your system (installer prompts this)
9. Now install the ATi HDMI audio drivers by launching HDMI_R255.exe (also available on the Realtek driver site)
10. Reboot if necessary (don't remember if the installer required this, but I'd do it anyways)
11. Using the driver disc again, launch the autoplay file (or just launch InstAll.exe, found on its root directory and has a rainbow CD for its icon), uncheck "Select All" in the top to uncheck everything, and then check off "Creative" and press the "Start" button in the lower-right. Wait. The progress bar next to Creative may fill and then re-fill a couple of times, then say "Done". A message will pop up and say something like "Finished. Reboot?" Click yes, reboot.
12. Almost done! Test out the Creative suite to see if it works.
13. As a final step, install the Windows 7 upgrade that Chastity explains about here to make Creative more Windows 7 compatible (and hopefully, more stable).
Good luck! And again, I hope this helps at least one other person. It was a great learning experience for me as well. -
So by this method we can achieve having BOTH: Updated Audio Drivers AND a Creative Suite of our choice?
Thanks for the contribution!!! -
Just thought I'd chime in with my experiences. Don't know if its a local issue, but the modded X-Fi suite freezes with R2.55 on my setup.
R2.54 however, works flawlessly. -
-
I had the xfi mb and 2.48 driver installed and tried to switch back to stock and now the driver is not recognizing the hardware. I had this problem before and did a bunch of driver and registry sweeps to get rid of everything and it worked when I first installed the mb+2.48. Reverting back to stock is not working out the same as before and no matter what I do I can't get it to work again. I'm just using the 2.55 realtek now while I try to figure out what is going on.
-
For those of us who don't wish to use the Creative software, what would be the reason to install the old Realtek driver off the Asus disk first?
I mean, is there a reason to install the old version, then run the newer version and let it uninstall, reboot, then update? Or is it better (on a new Win7 install) to just directly install R2.55 and the ATI HDMI 2.55 drivers?
