... I don't think I'll ever be buying a PC from you, Geared2play.com. The easy way isn't always the right way, and if a bios update fixes the problem, or a video driver fixes the problem, or an RMA and exchange for a new computer fixes the problem ... it doesn't matter so long as the problem is fixed. It doesn't matter if a bios fix *will* work, even though the bios isn't broken, just so long as it gets fixed. If the video card drivers are bad, then asus should fix those. If they won't ... well, I still bought the computer from asus. They should be responsible to get it fixed in whatever way they think best - and it looks like they have. With a bios fix.

I don't know why the link doesn't work right now, but CCz_Cataphract has put the BIOS on his site. You can download it from there.

The megaupload link is working again, but it's probably still easier to download from CCz_Cataphract.

Yes. I've only had 3 BSoDs, and for some reason they won't write a minidump. They're not the 0x124 that everyone is complaining about, and they appear to happen when I'm overloading the system (which doesn't happen often).

Value for your money, you can't do better. If money is no object, then get a Clevo or something.

grab/write down the error code off the next blue screen, there is usually a way to tell what is going on from that code.

BIOS 205 was suppose to fix the 0x124 BSOD, have you gotten any of those? I haven't had any since I flashed 205.

Anyways, any luck with the new beta BIOS?

I never got the 0x124 BSoDs. I did get the beta bios from asus this afternoon, although I've already requested an RMA from amazon, and I have until the end of the week to ship it off. If this beta bios fixes it, great. If not, well... I suppose I could always get a dell. again.

I just applied the BIOS that Don from Asus sent me today... BSOD'd within 5 minutes of logging in without using Throttlestop.

I'm sending this brick back and will likely buy a Sager... something that has a reputation for working.

As posted in my review thread, I would get that error if I overclocked my card too much.

If you haven't overclocked at all then post your driver info and temps - otherwise just try decreasing the clock :)

Heck, looking now someone just asked this question as well yesterday - and forge gave the same answer as I :): http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=446366&page=156

No problem - feel free to read my review to learn more.

To Overclock the CPU: Go to High Performance Mode and change the 'Turbo Mode' at the bottom of the screen to 'Extreme Turbo' and hit OK.

To Overclock the GPU: More complicated - See my review :).

Im looking to purchase a G51jx-x1 from newegg, but i see there is some BSOD issues. Is this severe? And is there a fix from it directly from Asus? Or are they working on it? And is it confirmed that they are working on it?

Not I - see thread and review/info page for some game benchmark vids though.

It's been a few days now since the second Beta BIOS (the one after 205) was released to fix the Freezing problems that appeared with 205. Can anyone report one way or another if it helped? Or is that issue still unfixed?

Hoping no news is good news, I've been tracking things and poked around the forum to see if there were any other posts about it - but nothing I noticed. If I missed anything please let me know - thanks :)

    Thanks,
    Peter

Did you try reinstalling the game incase it's the game and not the laptop itself? Now that you updated your drivers, giving a clean GTA IV install can't hurt, just make sure to backup your saves first.

I've been trying it since it came out yesterday - but I never had the issues so me still not seeing them doesn't prove anything unfortunately.

    Thanks,
    Peter

I thought I should share my experience. I was getting the BSOD everday for a couple of weeks. I was also getting random freezes, where everything would just lock up and even waiting an hour didn't clear it up. The computer wouldn't even respond to CTR-ALT-DEL and I could only hold the power down the reset.

In fact, I could recreate the freeze by running a remote desktop connection to another computer in 1900x1080 resolution. After about 30 seconds it would freeze.

Anyway, I didn't install the new BIOS (I'm still running 204) but I tried the new NVIDIA drivers on the NVIDIA drivers page (they have now added the 300M series) and so far I have had no BSOD issues or random freezing. In fact, I have been playing Mass Effect 2 on maxed out settings (including maximum resolution) and I have even noticed the GPU to be running a little cooler now as well. ME2 would get up to 87C during some of the larger battles, but now it's not exceeding 82C and even feels to be running a little smoother (although it felt pretty smooth before too).

So long story short, I'm running 204 BIOS with the 8.17.11.9716 (3/16/2010) drivers and so far all is well. I probably won't upgrade my bios until it's officially released on the ASUS website, or I start getting BSODs again.

I hope this information helps anyone else. Cheers!

P.S. - Yes, I WOULD recommend this computer because it's fabulous!

We have sent some BETA BIOS out to some customers who sent in their mini-dump and only person has provided any feedback, we have requested a new minidump but has not received any.

If you have received the BETA BIOS .T53 either through us or from another source, please PM me your results. We would like to provide an official release.

    Thank you.

I only got 2 BSOD, I'll try to reproduce them again with what I did yesterday. Opening the whole adobe master collection + office 2007 + Perfect World + other stuff + AIMP2.

If I get bsod I'll flash with the beta bios I received. If I had the games that gives problems I would be testing now.

Awesome info - thanks so much for joining to let us know that :). I was getting occasional freezes, but they were so rare (only twice in 2 months) that I never looked into it much - but if the 197.16 drivers I have now fix it then that's yet another bug resolved and taken off the list of issues to worry about :D

I hear you. I posted a couple of days ago asking what the heck happend with this. No one posted to say it fixed things, but no one posted saying they were still having problems.

Note guys: THIS IS FOR THE BIOS AFTER 205 - THE ONE THAT THEY RELEASED FOR THE NEW FREEZING/BSOD PROBLEMS PEOPLE WERE REPORTING!

If you had the freezing problem with 205 then please try that new BIOS and let us and ASUS know if it fixed things (or not).

    Thanks,
    Peter

FYI I re-posted it March 22 on my web server here: G60JXAS-T53.zip

The T53 BIOS is the newer BIOS and it was released to fix freezes and other BSODs people were receiving with the 205 BIOS. So if you are getting new problems with the T53, then it'd definitely be a good idea to send in the mini-dump and report it (if you haven't already). If they make T53 their official BIOS and build new versions from it when new bugs are found (or don't and just make this official) then that won't be a good thing for us and future users in the long run methinks...

I'm really happy to see ASUS stand by their product. I have been a customer of ASUS for years (it used to be just motherboards) and I'm very glad to see you working with your customers to resolve problems.

Well you seem like a nice group, and I'm glad to add whatever I know to the mix. It sure helps me when I need it too. :)

By the way, I'd be happy to try out the new BIOS (I did get one freeze tonight). But I'm not sure where to find the dump information and to whom to send it.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that. I was using 204, and it has been freezing. I tried out 205 and was getting more frequent freezing so I switched back to 204. I don't have T53 (I don't know how to find the information ASUS needs in order to send me the T53 bios so I can't get it). Someone posted a link to 205, which is why I was able to use it. If anyone has T53 I'd be happy to give it a try and post my results.

EDIT: Okay, I found the post with the link to T53. I'm running it now and I'll update with the results.

UPDATE: I've been running the T53 bios for a day now and so far so good. No BSODs, no freezes. I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE 2: Okay, I got my first freeze since T53 was installed. I have no idea how to find the dump information (or if it even posts a dump from freezes) so all I can say is that that someone was calling me on Google Voice and it froze up.

UPDATE 3: It looks like I might have a webcam related freezing issue. I'm not sure. I can use the webcam, but sometimes when I run something that is going to initialize the webcam it freezes.

Okay, I can recreate the problem. It doesn't happen everytime, but frequently enough for me to know that it's a webcam issue. I'm using the latest drivers from the ASUS website, but it will sometimes freeze when a program attempts to initialize the webcam. I have not tested this problem with an older version of the BIOS, but I don't recall having this issue before.

Try the 061.005.200.310 drivers for the webcam! You can find it by selecting Notebook->Drivers->Camera, then select Windows 7 (no x64!). That driver worked well for me!

That's because I returned my g51. I didn't want to "test" the bios for a computer that may (or may not) have hardware faults. I'm not saying they all have Hardware problems, only that I couldn't be sure that my BSoDs were due to software.
