I'm trying t53 atm, since I got a BSOD with 204 in Combat Arms. I'll try once again. So far I haven't had any freezes, hope Asus release a full BIOS free of bugs.

Newegg can actually be really leniant, i once bought ram that didnt work, they let me get a refund, and keep the new sticks because of it. And another time my hard drive came that was 400GB which i ordered 500GB, they sent me a 500 and let me keep the 400 as well surprisingly. Just call them up, and ask them to return it. Their awesome!

Okay, I think it might not be a webcam problem. I can use the webcam just fine by itself. However, several programs that use the microphone, including Google Voice and NaturallySpeaking cause the computer to freeze. This has only been tested on T53. I'll post more when I know.

UPDATE: I uninstalled the Realtek drivers and now the mic works just fine without freezing. It looks like the little Realtek app was causing the freeze.

No freezes atm, still I have to install some demanding game to test it fully. And my 3 bsod I had with 204 are too hard to reproduce in normal use.

Have returned my 1st G51Jx for a new one when it BSODs. Now the second one, on e 1st day BSODs. All this happens while playing Battlefield BC2. Notification on something about "nVidia Kernel" appears, changing to "Windows Basic" then Blue Screen appears. BC Code 124. After reading the threads, I've tried flashing e BIOs from 204 to 205 & T53. Also updated nVidia driver to 197.16 but no avail.
No more BSODs after flashing BIOs but still having occasional "Freezes" & a frequent funny problem (top left appears with a input bar with chinese characters, have to hit SHIFT key to change to EN, ENTER key then click on screen to get rid of the input bar but only momentarily). Have to keep trying to get rid of the " CHI Input bar" frets me out as keep giving free frags. Someone pls advise me wat to do. I'm using a cooler pad so don't think it's a heating issue and sometimes get it while only 30mins into the game.

Have you tried uninstalling the Realtek drivers to stop the freezing? I think some of the freezing might be related to that little sound app. (It's the copper sound icon.) You'll still have the sound drivers, it just won't be running that extra app.

Can you take a screenshot of that icon varpness or the file to uninstall precisely? Because the times I got bsod it was related with music the laptop gave me advises like the music lagged and after a while BSOD.

It's called "Realtek Audio Driver" and you can uninstall from ADD/REMOVE programs. I can't give you a screenshot since I've already uninstalled it and I don't want to really reinstall, but it's one of the little icons on your tastbar. You know you have the white speaker icon, well there is also a little orange/copper colored one too. That will be uninstalled when you remove "Realtek Audio Driver" from your computer. It seemed to solve several freezing problems for me. Hopefully it will for you as well!

    Thanks mate for prompt reply.

How do I uninstall the Realtek drivers? Is it under Control Panel>Uninstall Program>Realtek High Definition Audio Driver?

Also, which BIOs should I keep, T53 Test BIOS or 205? How about nVidia driver 197.16 or roll back to previous driver?

    Thanks again!

Right now I'm running T53, the latest Nvidia drivers from their website, and I've uninstalled the Realtek drivers (through Control Panel>Uninstall Programs) and I haven't had a single BSOD or freeze since (for a couple days now). I'm not claiming everything is going to be okay now, but I've got my fingers crossed.

Let me know how it goes for you!

The T53 Test BIOS kept giving me BAD_POOL_CALLER, I have no idea why! I've sent a minidump to ASUS but they don't seem to be making any real progress lately. The 205 BIOS is more stable but I've just gotten a random freeze (the last one was about 3 weeks ago).

I too am having BSOD's with my G51JX. Im running the 204 bios. It would be nice if someone from ASUS gave us a little heads up on a realistic date to expect a final bios release. I don't know whether I should keep or return this laptop. It's really upsetting to have these issues with a new laptop. This is my first Asus pc, so my question to loyal asus customers reading this and or ASUS customer care rep, will they forget about us and move on to new laptops, or will they 100% fix this issue?
Anyway, I have a question, is the realtek audio driver a necessary driver for the audio to work properly..... or can the standard windows 7 drivers get the job done? I just deleted it on my system and updated the nvidia driver, and I haven't had a bsod for 5 rounds of BF2. Again, im running still on the original bios but maybe the audio driver has something to do with the bluescreens. Thoughts?

P.S. ASUS, Please, Give us something, Fast. Just an expected date would make me happy right now.

What are you running when you get the BSOD? After uninstalling the Realtek drivers (from Add/Remove Programs) and updating the Nvidia drivers and bios, I haven't had a BSOD or freeze.

I was playing battlefield 2 every time that my system has bsod. I haven't tried yet a new bios, I kinda want to wait for an official release. I will be playing some more later tonight so ill get to see if that realtek driver is causing the issues for me, with bios 204.

Update :played BF2 all night, no BSODs. Ever since uninstall of realtek driver and nvidia update, bios 204 has been stable. Maybe one (bsod) is on the way or maybe that(realtek) was a the issue. Will just have to play some more and see what happens :)

    Hi Varpness,
Thanks for the TIPs. So far after uninstalling the RealTek HD Audio drivers haven't had BSODs or freezes. However, happened twice while playing BFBC2, the game just hanged and booted out to Windows. Other than that, no complaints so far. Think I'll keep my G51Jx as quite happy with it's performance doing other stuff as well besides gaming.

    To Jimmy1024,
Flash your BIOs to 205 or T53 which can be found on thread. I've tried BIOs 205but get random freezes. Although T53 is a TEST BIOs, think a final one might be out soon. So far I'm quite happy with using T53 BIOs, updating nVidia video card drivers to ver 197.16 plus uninstalling RealTek Audio drivers, playing BFBC2 seems better. Haven't had any BSODs or freezes so far.

    Keep the info coming!

Got this reply from Asus: "Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
Our engineer is testing on the new BIOS, it will release soon.
Sincerely sorry for any inconvenience." Not sure how long "soon" is but at least I know they are still working on it. Hope its days and not weeks.

Varpness, any idea what the realtek audio driver does for the sound on this computer? Is it just a program to add sound effects or does it have a real purpose? When the new bios is released or if i get a bsod, i think ill be reinstalling it, that is unless its useless.

From what I can tell it installs the actual drivers you need for your sound card to work (which Windows Update can install anyway) along with that extra program that runs in the background. The drivers themselves are not the problem. Uninstalling the Reatek Drivers doesn't actually remove them anyway, only the extra program.

As far as I can tell, that extra program is not necessary. It's more or less a different GUI to accomplish the same sound setting configuration tasks that the built-in Windows version can do. The soundcard runs just fine without it, including the EAX 4.0 features and all.

Well I just got another bsod. Played (BF2) for about an hour tonight. Bios 204, no realtek, and updated nvidia. So I guess realtek is not the issue, at least when running 204. Man I hate bluescreens.

You are assuming that there is only one problem causing the BSODs when it could be, in fact, multiple problems.

From my experience, the new Nvidia drivers and the T53 bios fix the BSOD problems and the removal of the Realtek drivers fix the sound-related freezing issues.

Also, the BSOD sometimes just happens, regardless of the computer. You'll need to keep track of which BSOD you are getting to truly say it's a problem with the bios or drivers.

    Hi all,
Although got no more BSODs, I've couple of freezes (2 for today) while playing BFBC2. Then, the BFBC2 program just closes by itself. Got the Realtek Audio drivers ininstall already. Any other idea what could cause the freezes and program to close?

Got the BSOD when playing Batllefiled BC2 with a G51Jx.

    Solution for me:

    -Updated my videocar drivers.
-Uninstalled my realtek sound drivers, then restarted the computer (auto-install of the correct drivers when windows re-start).
-Then used the T53 bios fix from CCz_Cataphract website (thx a lot dude).

It works perfectly for me ! no more BSOD, no Freeze !
You really have to uninstall the realtek sound drivers !!!

I've just got a freeze while playing DiRT 2. The optical drive started to make weird noises and then the screen froze. Had to force shut down. I am using 205 BIOS because the T53 gave me BAD_POOL_CALLER

    Happy to help :).

I'm actually about to apply T53 myself, but I thought I would report my findings here first. As I reported previously I didn't upgrade to 205 because I never had the 0x124 BSODs, so I've still been using 204 until today. It's been very stable - until I started using my 19" ATSC HDTV/Monitor through HDMI. Since then I've gotten 2 freezes with repeating sound and 2 IRQ_LESS_THAN_EQUAL BSODs in two days.

Even with the external display disabled, if the HDMI cable is plugged in I see the symptoms. Can anyone else confirm they observed them as well? I also got the same IRQ BSOD last month when showing a movie on my 42" HDTV via HDMI - I think that is the key link between both cases. Without the HDMI cable being plugged in, I've never gotten that BSOD.

Can anyone say if they see this same behaviour or that their system using HDMI out is stable (and if so with which BIOS revision it is?).

    Thanks,
    Peter

P.S. Here is a link to the download page for both BIOS files on my server - I will be confirming T53 myself in a few moments, but others have used it with no problems.

Update: Confirmed working - running T53 right now :). Will see if the BSODs cease and desist...

The date for the 206 bios is 3/15/2010 and the date for the T53 bios is 3/19/2010 so if you have the T53 bios installed you will not be able to upgrade to 206. I'm not sure if there is any difference between T53 and 206 anyway.

UPDATE: You can use the DOS utility to update the bios from DOS, which is the better method anyway in case Windows crashes.

Also, it looks like the new bios (206) has a flash utility built into the bios screen. Can anyone confirm that the prior bios does not have this?

I just used winflash to flash my system to the 206 bios. I will be testing it with BF2 later tonight and will post an update if I get any more BSOD's.
As people start using this new release, can anyone that still has realtek audio driver installed, let me know if it runs smooth with the 206 bios... Im thinking about reinstalling it.

Ran into a little snag, but I don't know if it's bios related. I installed 206 earlier today, and a few minutes ago my HD went into a clicking loop where it made a clicking sound once every 1 second. I know I have not jarred the laptop in any way, and I have never moved it while powered on.

The mouse was still responsive but the HD light was stuck ON and nothing was responding to mouse clicks.

This happened once before on the older bios. Again, I don't know if it's bios related, and I'm hoping I don't have a faulty HD.

Yes 204 had that flash utility - I mentioned it in my review and it's the way I did the upgrade to T53.

In reply to my mini-dump a few posts back ASUS sent me a message saying that 206 was the official one and I should test with that so I guess I'll make the switch back - here's hoping the ASUS EZ Flash BIOS flasher won't get annoyed about it being newer since that method is just so darn easy I quite like it :)

Previously was using T53 test BIOS. No BSODs issues with that but occasional FREEZES.

Yesterday FLASHED my BIOS to version 206. Played BFBC2 for an hour before game FREEZES and automatically exited to Windows. Am using nVidia driver version 197.16 and had uninstalled Realtek Audio Driver.

New notebook less than 2 weeks old and had only installed BFBC2 for testing only as had BSODs twice when BIOS was version 204.

"Nvidia driver has stopped working" is the main problem now, I dont know what caused it. It happened even when I was just using Firefox in all power manager mode and temps about 50 Celcius degrees

No BSODs on the 206 for me yet. No freezing or NVIDIA driver problems yet. I had that all in 205. However, the taskbar corruption still occurs ocassionally, albeit rarely.

I'm using 197.16. I'm not uninstalling the audio drivers because they work great. Uninstalling them is only to solve the freezing problems which I only got 3 weeks ago. Anyway, try the latest Realtek driver on their website.

I can't flash to 206, the winflash says the 206 is older than the current one T53 (which for now it haven't given me any problems, yet I have to play BFBC2 and GTIV).

    Update:
I was trying to play Gears of Wars on max settings and I got nvidia drivers video crash, what's wrong and how I can update my bios if winflash won't let me update?
