Was wondering if anyone else has GSOD with the new vbios?

I installed it as soon as it came out, and it fixed the GSOD with Catalyst drivers. Got my first GSOD yesterday, with temperatures only 70c (playing Company of Heroes of all things!).

Screen flickered to black then back, then after 10 more minutes got 1 sec of recovered GSOD, then 5 minutes later a classic GSOD with sound looping like the bad old days.

Realised that while playing I had a browser window open with a youtube video paused. I presume this had locked the Core at 499.97mhz, which caused it while gaming.

Anyone else get a random GSOD like this?

On Gary Key's beta vbios, cat 10.10.

I had a black screen with looping sound in bad cmpany 2 with 10.10 and gary vbios, but i don´t know if it was a vbios-driver problem or another thing...

looks like a driver reset. I get those when I am experimenting with overclocks.

That's a good point.. could be due to the 10.10 as it went ages with 10.8 and no problems. Would be a pain if ASUS had to release another Vbios for later Catalyst versions!

If it happens again with no UDV video clock-locking going on in the browser I'll go back to 10.8.

Just to clarify, you guys experiencing GSODs with 10.10 and stock vbios, or with modded vbios?

Mine was with beta vbios by ASUS that fixes GSOD. Was only the one GSOD on 10.10, have now done plenty more gaming with no problems. Reckon it was because I had the explorer window open with a video paused, locking the Core at 500 mhz (UDV active), which upset it while gaming.

I just recently installed COD black ops and within 15 minutes of playing online i got the gsod and this continued over and over till I just gave up.

I managed to fix the problem however an have now have a stable machine that can play the game for 4 hours continuously without crashing

    Here's what I did,

    1. uninstalled power4gear software and let windows take over power management. I just leave it set on "high performance"
    2. uninstalled catalyst control center. I don't know if I need it as I never use it anyway so no real loss.
    3. uninstalled the display driver via the device manager and let windows search for the driver and install it. I am running version 8.753.0.0

That's it. Everything is nice and smooth and no crashes. I didn't flash the vbios as I can't risk my machine failing so I'm glad the above worked

I guess I should start reinstalling the components and see which one causing the gsod but it's works well now so i'm not keen to much it up again

You're now back to the original driver 10.1 which doesn't cause the issue in most causes.

Hi all, and thanks Chastity for the advice. I've had semi-success since following the steps excluding the optional steps.

The AMD GPU tool keeps re-setting itself to 700/1000 speeds and then seem to get GSODs. Is there a way of setting 705/1100 as the default?

Also, the HP USB tool asks for Admin rights. I am the administrator. is there a settign I need to change to get this working?

And... when I re-installed P4GH it didn't activate the turbo and screen mode buttons on top left of keyboard. Is there a way of fixing this?

    Cheers all.

A lot of the advice given in this thread is outdated. Anyone having GSOD issues should update their vBIOS to the one linked in my sig. Scroll up to the original post for instructions.

    Chastity, have a question.

I've updated to VBIOS and latest asus bios and found that now I can use Overdrive feature and my GPU clock at 875/1200 (max temps 106). I just noticed something weird, as I go higher from 775 up the Scores in Vantage and 3dmark06 start to come down. I though it was because the CPU was the bottleneck so I used SetFSB to set CPU to 172/165 but it made no difference. Is the low score due to parking (due to prevent overheating). I've not done the no parking mod (registry hack). Should I do that and try the 875/1200? Just wondering what's going on under the hood. I tried 900/1200 and 3dmark06 froze (had to turn system off with power button).

    Thanks

Sorry, but my experience with benchmarks is limited, as I use actual games to test performance tweaks. When I tested SetFSB on my 720QM, I found that I cannot OC enough to get a performance boost compared to what TurboBoost is doing for me.

Wow, I just want to send a huge thank you to Gary, Chastity and everyone here who posted walkthroughs, guides etc to help folks figure out how implement the GSOD fixes etc!

I'm NOT an advanced computer person and today I was able to do the BIOS and vBIOS flashes, plus do the clean windows install and update of my drivers. And best of all things seem to be working well. I played an hour of WoW Cataclysm on ultra settings and so far so good!

Note: I haven't applied all possible updates from the ASUS website...namely the keyboard, chipset and touchpad. Should I be going through and updating anything that looks newer or at this point if things are working well should I just let it be? I definitely feel a lack of knowledge on which drivers are key to keep updated on a computer.

    Thanks again!

I try and keep my machine current with driver releases, tho I get them from the manufacturer instead of the Asus site. They tend to lag a bit.

@FilipAGuy, the vbios is firmware so it doesn't need to be redone unless you flash other firmware. Short answer: no. ;)

Just curious whether you (and others here) do it manually or use a program to automatically find the updates? I personally would love to have something that would notify me when new ones come out but I seem to read alot of comments from serious computer folk denouncing those tools. Not sure if that's because they prefer to have fine control over the process or whether those programs don't function well enough.
