    Woah. So it's that simple?

I'm not sure if I've done this correctly.

I filled this out: eSupport Case Submittal Form (USA or Canada Customers ONLY) and I got a confirmation email. That's it. Do I just wait now? And will this RMA take longer than 2 weeks, do you think?

Had the thermal paste redone by a local asus certified repair facility. Gpu overheats with the exact same temperatures as before. Not really sure how asus gets away with such terrible service.

That had better not happen to me. It's all I can do to RMA at all. In fact, I still haven't fully made up my mind.

I'm beginning to understand that the best way to get a working g73 is to roll the dice and rma it until it gets replaced with a working model. This of course means it could take months before I can enjoy my $2k laptop.

    This is ridiculous.

After waiting on the line forever, the rep told me that his systems were down and that I needed to call back. That way I'll get online with another rep who's system was working. Okay, so I call back, wait again, and right as I tell the guy I need an RMA, he says okay and hangs up.

    ???

    I'll call back tomorrow.

try again, dont tell them you need a rma, tell them that your laptop has problems.
they will eventually see that rma is the only option

How long do the RMA's usually take? I'd like to have this back within the next two weeks.

I'll call tomorrow, hopefully get everything set up, and then I'll have to live without my baby for a while. :p

It had better be repaired when it comes back.

You are not out of the woods yet. :p

According to Intel, WMM is required for N wireless specifications, and their drivers require WMM enabled to get N speeds. Not all wifi makers adhere to this, however.

So now ... I am severely p***** off. I called RMA office today, only to be told "due to the fact that your motherboard is a 'special order', it'll take 2 weeks for delivery of the board from Taiwan, and another 2 weeks to replace it." I told them I'd rather they just shove the laptop up their a$$es as Taiwan already screwed Seagate and myself over with this under powered piece of crap that they sent. He said he'd try to 'expedite it'. [For those who are wondering, I won a "Performance G73" on May 26th during the Seagate Momentus XT launch Webinar. During the Webinar the Asus rep made is sound like we'd be getting an A3. It took Asus 12.6 weeks to get me a laptop (mainly because they were being cheap SOB's and not give Seagate "employee pricing", and Seagate had to escalate it!)

So I called down to California and speak to a Trinity S. at Asus today, and she had me email her some info - the rules that included the ARV of the laptop $1899.99US, and a copy of the receipt I got with my box (showing 2 G73Jh-1ATY's costing a TOTAL of $1,822USD [yes, that $911/laptoP!]).

Suffice it to say, I will not buy an Asus product again. From where I am sitting, it appears Asus stole not only from me, but one of their biggest international partners, Seagate.

Am I way off base on this?!

Edit: Apparently, I'm not off base, or, so thinks the US Head Office. I just got a phone call from the Asus Repair, and they have replaced the i5 board with an i7 board. Although, I'm 99.99% sure that all the boards in the G73s have the same board / socket

That may be true, but I have forced the router to b/g only and it still wouldn't work. It would say it's connected to the internet, but would not load a page.

I have an Intel Wifi Link 4965AGN in my other laptop that was doing N speeds with WMM disabled in the router, and had no connectivity issues like the Atheros card.

I even got out my old Linksys router which is b/g only and it wouldn't allow the Atheros to access the net either. And it tried both ways, WMM on and off. WEIRD!

In any case, I've researched the 6200 a little bit, and it seems to be the card of choice. 300Mbps and almost double the range seems like a win/win, plus it was only $19 brand new on eBay :) .

Sorry for thread hijack lol, ;)

I RMA'd mine because it was experiencing the horrible crackling speaker problem. They sent it back with the keyboard lights broken. I haven't sent it back again yet. Argh.

Two RMA's and still no fix in sight. First time they replaced the VGA card and it took 16 days only to get it back in my hands, boot it, start Furmark and 6 seconds in it GSOD'd again. Went back out the next day to their center here in Ontario, Canada and now after another 16 business days I received it today only to find out that it no longer GSOD's but just hard locks with a black screen and spews out an obnoxious noise until you power it down. Again they replaced the VGA as well as the mainboard as well and conveniently forgot to screw my hard drives back to the frame... quality control at its best.

Thoroughly unimpressed with Asus at this point and will be requesting my money back. Video link of my newfound problem

Asus needs to control in a different way all the repair centers they have. They do everything they want without any responsability or respect for those that in a certain way give them the work they have. Theres gotta be a way to make a more controlled and professional work. This cant be a positive to one of the best laptop sellers.

found out that asus only delivers one time per week components to their repair centers. so if they dont receive your part on tuesday or wednesday then you know you have to wait one more week for it, if your lucky... ;)

Gary has been able to help me. But it just seemed to get worse and worse. I was expecting my notebook to be shipped last Monday, but then was told that with the beta vBios is was crashing. I didn't ask for this. They tested mine with different TIM, again I didn't ask for this. I repeatedly said, all I want is my notebook repaired in the condition I bought it and returned.

The shipping on Wednesday was missed. Then was told they would ship again on Thursday. I find out on Friday today that it was shipped to the wrong address.

Now I've been notified to get my notebook intercepted to the right direction... Instead the notebook is on it's way back to Fremont... on FedEx's crappy saver express. Saver possibly, but hardly ExPress, USPS regular mail is faster than this crap. Arrival estimate February 9th.

I'm beyond pissed, beyond angry right now.

Holy cow man. That's beyond insanity.
I would be more than a little miffed. I would be furious!
Hope something gets done for you man.

Just checked my RMA status. Just got there today, it's currently in the "Repairing" stage. I called Asus today to be sure my info was correct, because the guy I spoke with on the phone apparently didn't understand me. He spelled my last name "Rossitnol" instead of "Rossignol", so that's been cleared up. Made sure the address was right. The way he said it was "Fourty-One Street Avenue" which concerned me, but then I realized he meant "Fourty-first Avenue". Whew. =S

That's the arrival date to return to Fremont. And heaven forbid if FedEx ever ships something faster than their arrival estimate, FedEx is my least favorite by far.

I'm not sure what to say to all this. This is just unbelievable. I was told they would ship my notebook on MONDAY and I should have had it on TUESDAY. Now I'm sitting so angry, so pissed that it won't be here for another week and a half.

It will take Asus 2 weeks to ship my notebook to a proper address. And I paid extra for overnight shipping too.

Just checked my RMA status. It's been set to "Repair" since last night but the repair percent is still 0.0%.

    Patience.. patience...

You know, I read that a BB laptop user RMA'd and got the 1080P screen. I told the tech I want the LG screen, unaware that they could put the 1080P in there without trouble.
This is one time I hope the tech is generous. :3 I'd love the Hannastar panel.

I had the same problem when they were sending me mine back. Apparently, if you select express saver from Fedex and it arrives early, it won't go out to the customers till that specific day.

The RMA department sent it FedEX express saver to me and it was in town on Friday but the delivery date was on Tuesday. I tried calling the fedex support to see i can go get it. They told me if it was any other delivery but that one, I could have.

Ouch. That is a little stupid on Fedex's part.

When I sent my out it was the overnight delivery, and it was in Ontario the next morning. But, according to Asus' site, they still don't have it.

lets see... news from my laptop. Asus Portugal already as the new vbios and is upgrading the laptops with it.
In my case the status is repairing, they changed the vga, the motherboard and the cooling system of the vga. The tech of asus told me that this are new refrigeration modules (diferent model of the stock ones) and that are here to solve the heating situation of this laptop. :D

I'll have the laptop tomorrow or monday and make a full report of it.
I'm with a good feeling of this Rma.

Asus is really trying to resolve all the problems. I've earned much more respect for asus in this past month and would like to thanks all the help and hard work of Gary and his team because finaly we can see some results.

    Well, Mason called me.
He said they repasted the GPU and replaced the heatsink, and updated the vBios.
But he said they couldn't find the bright dot/defect on my screen so I had to tell him where it was. Then he said that it might be outside the 30 days even though I complained to Best Buy and they told me it might not be covered while I was within the 30 days.
I guess I'll have to do what I can to get them to replace that screen. I didn't have it sent to California for $58.77 to get a new heatsink and repaste, I need a new screen.
Heh. I complained about the screen to him and he said that they haven't used AUO for a year. Ya think? My AUO screen was made in flippin January of 2009.

I have one bright dot that I noticed 37 days after I bought the laptop. Out of warrenty :(. I checked when I first recieved the laptop and there was nothing, it was perfect. But I have the 1080p screen and the only way to see it is if you stare at a completly white sceen. It bothered me at first but I got over it as while playing games/doing anything I cant even see it.

Heh, my notebook finally returned and it looks great. It was assembled correctly and ran a few tests and the temps were great. Overall very happy with this. And my contact at Asus was also Mason, who was patient and followed through with everything.

This is something you can't do much about. They do give 30 days to find any errors on the screen. And you have to realize the only company I know of that even gives complimentary guarantee on the screen is Asus, no one else. You have to pay anywhere from $100-200 to get this.

Don't grief Mason or Gary over this. They have no control over this, this is Asus corporate policy. And it's a very generous one to begin with.

I really am pleased with the (free) warranty Asus offers. For me, depending on who I talk to, the customer service is either great or terrible.

Ziddy, did you specifically ask for a repaste? What temps do you get now?

They had to repaste since my GPU had to be replaced. After 10 minutes on the hairy donuts it was around 84C, I won't complain about that.

When you go to support.asus.com, hit the Repair link, then on the side hit Repair Status Inquiry. Just put in your RMA#, the other two are unimportant.

An update- Mason confirmed that the GPU was repasted and the heatsink was replaced. Waiting another week for new screens to come in and we'll see what happens then. Turns out it's not a bright dot, but some other kind of screen defect that no-one can seem to place a name to, so he said we'll try to work something out with the screen. So far it's been very pleasant to work with him and Asus support. Setting up the inital RMA, the guy I spoke with always said "thank you for that" and "Mr. xxx" and all that good stuff.

I was kind of surprised to learn my laptop shut down overnight while they were testing it. Mason said he wasn't sure if it was a thermal shutdown or a fluke, but they repasted and whatnot anyways. They also updated to the latest vBios.

Ziddy- I know what you mean. I don't plan on being irrate if the screen isn't replaced, but it is the only reason I sent it in for repair and the whole thing would be a waste of money for me (the shipping, anyways). I would be miffed but I wouldn't begin to be angry with Mason or Gary, but AUO for producing the worst screen I've seen in my life (next to 90's Passive-matrix screens, lol). I have hope though. I don't plan on paying for a new screen, mainly because I don't have money (just bought a $1300 laptop ya'know) so I don't know what I'll do.

Yeah, that's where I've been going. Just called AGAIN, and apparently my notebook was just looked into their systems and the reason for my message was my RMA status was being updated...

This is getting annoying though. The fact that they only just acknowledged having the laptop a week after it arrived in Markham...wow. Slow service.

EDIT: FINALLY. I have a status! "Waiting!" That's better than nothing.

Strange. I thought I read somewhere that the Canadian depots were more efficient than the American ones. I guess they're really busy there.

It's generally regarded that they are. But I'd assume that they're busy, as you said. I'm coping with this better than I thought I would, though. :p Still, I am starting to feel G73 withdrawl.

I know EXACTLY how you feel.
Chances are, I'm not getting my laptop back by next Friday, which is my 18th birthday. Ironically, I asked my father to get me Crysis for my birthday, and without the G73 I won't be able to play it.
    Lol.
I'm stuck with my Acer Aspire 6920...
Never again. NEVER AGAIN GETTING INTERGRATED GRAPHICS!
    Especially Intel intergrated graphics. T_T

    Ewww...integrated...

I can play games on my backup, just not as well as my G73. It doesn't matter, though, because most of my games are installed on the G73 and not the desktop, and I'm too lazy to reinstall them (Steam.)

Plus, I'm a bit of a modder when it comes to most games, and none of my mods are on the desktop. So...I'm stuck with the PS3 until further notice.
