It's a Targus bag. It says right on the bag.

Quick question: Is anyone still using the Dell XPS M1730 backpack that was supposed to fit the G73? I really regret letting my bag go with my M1730 as it was very durable and had very well-thought out storage. Unfortunately, my old massive shoulder bag that even fit my old M1730 just won't fit my new 'beast' replacement.

was almost out of hope when i was searching for bags at our local mall. nothing fits. but alas! i found a case logic i7" backpack
(with a free mouse lol). the compartment for the laptop doesn't fit the g73, but the compartment in front of it can fit if you force it in. it looks a little awkward because of the edges of the g73 really stick out. it's a little hard to force it in and take it out but i guess i just need to be used to it. -

Every Targus laptop bag i owned, that's 4 btw, had a padded compartment for the laptop. I wouldn't be using the asus backpack for my G73 if there wasn't one. There's about 1" of the laptop on the top of the back that isn't covered by the padding on the front and sides but it's the last place where it could get hit by something. I assume that's what you meant by no padding?

FYI: 1 day left for sale @ newegg for Everki bags. Picked up the Beacon for $98.16 shipped. Use EMCKEJH39 code.

Alright... I have a definite dilemma here. I have both an Everki Beacon and an XPS M1730 backpack waiting for me at my house when I get off. I ended up scoring the M1730 pack off of Craigslist for a very good price(about $40 shipped) after ordering the Beacon($120 shipped). I got the M1730 pack as I've had one before and flat-out loved it and was strongly considering sending the Beacon back sight unseen. Now I'm not so sure. However, the main feature of the Beacon wouldn't really be used by me as I don't take my consoles anywhere. Any thoughts/opinions on this? Which one would you rather have?
Edit: I forgot to mention that the bag needs to support both my G73 and my ThinkPad X200(12.1" ultraportable), carrying power adapters and accessories for both. Both bags should be able to do it, but I'm going to have to cull one of them, unfortunately. -
I have both bags, and they both can do it. The Everki will be more compact overall.
-
I've definitely been comparing both this night. I'm honestly quite torn between the two as I like both. The XPS does have much more storage area, and I haven't really figured out how I can safely carry my full-sized headphones, ThinkPad, and both power adapters in the Everki. The XPS has ample storage for everything, but the setup with the Everki is much lighter and much more compact. I also take along my digital camera, Nintendo DS, and a variety of other gear with me practically all the time. However, the XPS pack is much bulkier and significantly heavier, while the Everki is much smaller and the whole setup is significantly lighter. As before, it's a tough decision. I may be leaning towards the XPS solely for the capacity; both bags are mindblowingly awesome.
-
Either way, I'd def go with the smaller/lower-profile one. I'm hoping that the $40 one is it -
I'll post some this weekend when I get some time to do a decent photoshoot or a comprehensive video of each bag. The XPS bag is by far much larger than the Everki, although with some creative 'stuff management' I can get all of my stuff into either bag. The Everki is also significantly lighter, but both bags balance the load very well. If air travel is a concern the Everki will win hands-down. The XPS bag can carry that as well as more stuff; I'd say I could safely fit a change of clothes and some toiletries in the XPS with no difficulties, but that would be a challenge for the Everki if I've loaded it with everything I'd normally carry. There's a video that shows the Everki carrying a water bottle in the hip pocket but it's not really meant for it; if that's a major concern the M1730 bag can hold a 1-liter soda bottle or large water bottle with ease.
I either travel around with a very pared-down setup(X200, earbuds, phone, wallet, keys, and power adapter with car/plane option) or a 'fully loaded' e-bag(the X200 setup plus the G73/brick, Nintendo DS, digital camera, external optical drive, various memory cards, full-sized Bose headphones and other junk... I don't pack light.
In terms of materials the M1730 is made of much sterner stuff; this is not to imply the Everki is cheaply made at all(build quality is very good), but to stress the fact the M1730 bag has the look and feel of high-quality luggage. I had mine for over two years and it held up to all the abuse I threw at it; I hauled my M1730 just about everywhere. Work, friends' LAN parties, restaurants, weekends out and about, you name it. However, that utility and overengineering has a drawback: the bag itself is huge. I'm 5'9" and look like either an astronaut or an overburdened kindergartner wearing it.
I think what I'll be doing is taking each bag out through its paces and see which one I like better. I'm really torn between the XPS's utility and the Everki's lighter, slimmer profile. Like I said before it's a really tough decision, made worse by the nostalgic attachment I've got for the M1730 bag. -
I had been planning on buying the Targus XL for a while, but I honestly don't need the space for much of anything other than my G73SW and its accessories, so now I'm leaning towards the alienware orion backpack since the pictures seem to indicate that it is a very good fit. I was just wondering how well padded it is and if it is waterproof?
And that definitely is a G73, not a G53 in the pictures, right? -
Here's a side-by-side of the Dell XPS, Everki Beacon, and Targus XL. I had to stick a G73 in the Targus to get it to stand.Mind you that both the Everki and Targus have G73's in them, and that the Targus is mostly empty, and still looks fatter than the Everki which is stuffed to capacity.

Reviving a bit of a dead thread, but I'm looking into this myself. I really like the Everki, but a water bottle holder is a must for me. SwissGear has one that looks like it might work out, anyone have it: SwissGear Travel Gear ScanSmart Backpack - eBags.com
-
I have to say that after a three-day convention where I was bringing along dual laptops(my G73 and my ThinkPad X200), I was glad I brought along the M1730 backpack instead of the Everki. The water bottle holders on the XPS bag were great, and I had much more room to just 'stuff and go.' The Beacon has a much larger main laptop compartment, but doesn't have a large amount of room for other accessories.
-
I like the Everki because it's tight, and it holds almost as much as my Targus XL (had to take out my Sony headphones), and is much more airport friendly.
Take out the laptop, the inner pouch, and unzip the bag and open up in half. Put each in it's own bin, and it all went through w/o a hitch -
I'm finally fed up with the backpack that came with my G73, I've got to get something new!! I'm not too concerned about compactness, I more care about being able to easily put the computer in/out, plus have adequate space for headphones, mouse, power adapter, and the other random stuff I take on an airplane with me.
So having said that, I'm leaning towards the Targus XL. Chastity, I'm inferring from what you said that the XL is not very airport friendly? i.e. hard to take out the laptop when the bag is full.
(Here is my previous backpack that I used with my HP, and loved: http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=204871871, but it doesn't fit the G73) -
Just an update, I ended up picking up the Slappa MASK High Five bag and I'm loving it. I needed something that could carry my laptop, hold all of the accessories and come with an external drink holder. The Slappa has all of that and more. I really love this thing. Its a bit on the large side, but its very high quality. The only bad side is that there are really no good areas for storing papers.
Can't recommend this bag highly enough.

Just ordered a Solo Storm from Alpha Shark for $29 (normally $80)
AlphaShark | The Deal A Day Site For Men | Mens Accessories on Sale | Discount Mens Jewelry
They say it fits a 17.3" laptop and is very waterproof. -
Only problem is that when your filling the bag it gets heavy QUICK! I'm 6'1 200lbs and workout and barely carry this long distance. I agree it not the prettiest bag like the Everki or Alienware Mobile Edge, but it gets the job done and does it for a good price. I payed $65 with shipping for it. No bad. -
So I've finally come around to order a decent, large enough backpack, and it turned out to be the Slappa MASK High Five version!. Read douzens of reviews, and I was startin to love it.
So I ordered mine in Holland on 17 october, and the weird thing when I ordered mine is that it was only €49.95.
Also nice was the fact that when I ordered something else (that the total cost was more than €50, that the shipping would be free) so I did that as well, and payed €50.49 for the backpack+shipping.
Two days after my purchase, the website changed the price to €99 (which is the same price as the Slappa MASK KOA version)
The same day I got a notification that they didnt have the backpack in stock anymore. (when I purchased mine, it said that they had plenty in stock).
And that I eighter had the chance to pick another backpack (+extra cash to be added ofc), or to wait for it to arrive.
I lol'd.
Waited.
And answered I demanded my order.
And lol'd again.
Now lets see what they'll do. -
If they drag their butt, get their manager on the phone.
-
I'll make sure I stand ground and get that Slappa for what I payed
