ok we will wait, but my stupid idea about alienware vbios maybe willl work with your adjustment.

    thanks! :)

maybe voltage is the mean reason about this possible instability. how know????
we know alienware vbios voltage. it's 1.05.

    I found clevo 5870m vbios:

Ok, so I finally got my laptop. ASUS sent it for overnight but Purolator was LATE 2 days -__-'. SO far so good, done some checks no XSOD's yet. Oddly enough, I asked ASUS to replace the GPU but they did a "machinegun" problem elimination technique and replace these parts in this order.

    1. Replaced LCD.
    2. Replace GPU Board.
    3. Replaced CPU.

What the... It's almost funny and of course I can only say that because the GPU replacement seemed to work. :D So I'll check on my v2 modified bios tonight and let you guys know.

I did some more test on the v2 modified bios and it seems to work fine. While my old GPUs (two of them) worked fined when switching from 200/300 to 700/1000 my third GPU does not. It only switches properly from 200/500 to 700/1000 and beyond (the asus vbios sucks, what can I say). So I set the battery mode to 200/500. This bios sticks with 700/1000 so if you're old GPU GSOD'd at 700/1000 it still will. However, the ATI Overdrive feature has been unlocked so you can fine tune to a stable setting and still take advantage of Powerplay. ATI Overdrive also elimiates the need to use AMD GPUTool to load your settings at startup. Both my previous GPUs were rock solid at 800/1100, some have reported values like 699/999, 705/1100, 750/950 etc. Just play around with it, you'll arrive at something stable.

    V2 TARD BIOS

A word of advise though, if you can RMA your laptop then you should. It doesn't matter if it only GSOD with 10.3/10.4/10.5 take the time to RMA it if you can. If the ASUS service center does good and gives you a decent replacement, you'll find that you can actually push your GPU and especially your DDR5 clocks much higher. Notice that it's stable with memclock @1300.

Thanks Xeven for your efforts. Question if someone have stable GPu at stock Asus vBios. Could it possibly get GSOD after updating to your v2 vbios?

The vBIOS are bit-identical in systems working or not working; it's the hardware that is making the difference. So if you want to use this vBIOS to say be able to use Overdrive, then by all means.

Chastity, how to enable Overdrive? I just flashed v2 vbios from Xeven and installed catalyst 10.5, but Overdrive part is grayed out.
Anyway I also tried Furmark on v2 vbios + catalyst 10.5 on stock 700/1000 but back screen appeard after 20 seconds of stress test :/

Am I missing something because why is the file in a .BIN format if this is to update vBIOS? I am also suffering from random GSOD's and I'm on my second unit. First unit had a dead right speaker and now this one has GSOD issue... Can someone please zip/rar the files that can be extracted to boot disk to include atiflash plus G73 vBIOS? Thanks! :D

Xeven Great Work! Love the Overdrive.

Alright I edited your vBios to 1.05v like Alienware. Check out these temps running Unigine 2.0 with high tessellation for 10 minutes with 800/1100 overclock

    Fan noise minimal, it's incredible.

Also I created 2 Profiles now.

    Performance: PowerPlay Setting Maximize Performance
    IDLE: Powerplay Setting Maximize Battery

This way with hot key can just switch back and forth really easily

lmao, I'm not a complete idiot. When I downloaded ATI_018, it came with the atiflash program and the TS35951.018 image. That I can put on a boot disk and flash, so excuse me for not knowing how to flash using a BIN file. Sorry I can't be as smart as you.

Lowers DispIO by 7-8C and MemIO by 10-15C. But this is because I reduced the voltage from 1.15v to 1.05v.

Would be nice when you select battery mode the memory also lowers it's MHz.

Or the search function in this forum, where it has been explained several times.

Can anyone confirm that with Xevens first vBIOS (v. 1) the VGA port works?
I have to do a presentation in a few weeks and i need to hook up a projector to my VGA port.
HDMI is not an option because the projector that those people offer me to use is a budget one with no HDMI port on it.

Sorry for coming off like a jerk. Was tired as hell and annoyed that I went through two of these machines in two days  . But I figured out to flash vBIOS and the v2 BIOS has been working like a charm. I just needed to stop being lazy lol. So far no more GSOD's. Survived 3dMark06 and the Experience Index tests. All the BestBuys in my area were sold out so I figured I'd try the v2 BIOS for a bit since I have time to RMA it if need be.

I've been playing games on the 10.5's for a little while now but today No game will start. Immediately it crashes and says it is "not responding." Is this the Gsod or what?

EDIT: Well, I overclocked my card to 800/1100 and now all my games will start up and work fine now. Anyone care to shed light on that?

    cheers guys,

i had a issues with my G73, when i used any other driver than stock 9.12 ... it gives me GSODs... so i flashed my bios as from the first post in this topic -

now i am running Bios v. VER012.019.000.003.035951 , however, the Powerplay/HDMI is not working as mentioned before... everything else runs OK, am on 10.4 without any prob, 800/1100....

my question is, if there is other vBios version which include HDMI working, thanks!

Try Xevens Asus mod vbios v2, HDMI is working. You can also try ziddys mod vbios he slightly decreased voltage and obtained good temp drop.

ok, i will have a look for download links and will try...

another Q for which i would appreciate answers...

    1) after vBios flash, there is no necessary to re-install drivers, isnt it...

    2) is one from those vBios you mentioned able to trottle core and memory frequency based on performance?

    1) No. Everything works fine.
    2) No again, but you can switch powerplay from max performance to max battery life and it will drop from 700/1000 to 200/500. it's significant drop in temps and works fine in 2D. You can even create profiles in Ati CCC with different powerplay settings and assign hotkey to them. Here is my tutorial

i probably will test that one, just curious if i will have Overdrive option in 10.4 available...

otherwise i am still able to use AMD GPU clock tool, right...

On Ziddy's/Xeven's, does HDMI, PowerPlay, and VGA work? I read but it's a bit confusing. Looks like Ziddy's are based on Xeven's which apparently don't have it working.

    Some clarification would be appreciated.

HDMI works fine for me. I haven't tried VGA, can give that a try next week maybe.

Obviously PowerPlay works as that is what I was raving about. Well kinda, it downclocks to 200/500. But when it doesn't do it automatically for IDLE on power, as this is just a modifications of the Asus official vBIOS. But my solution to the problem is easy.

Set two profiles with hot keys. Performance and Idle, and you are done. Set the PowerPlay to battery saving for IDLE and Performance for Performance. If you are too lazy to press "CTRL ALT I" like I do for Idle, then whatever, don't care, your problem.

ok guys, am running now on Ziddy's modified bios, everything seems to be working very well, HDMI output was installed directly when i boot up from flashing...

only issue i have with the overdrive, when i am running on max performance power4gear, i am able to trottle memory frequency without any prob... it also show correct numbers in amd gpu clock tool... however, if i trottle core frequency on 800 mhz, then move on test custom clocks, it gives me stripes - which is normal during testing, after approx one min it go jump back to Win with saying that i passed, directly below this window, there is visible "GPU Clock window" from CCC, those 800mhz is in there, however when i press accept, it jumps back on 700...

nevermind, its not such a big deal, i can easily trottle up the core speed in amd clock tool... other than that, powerplay works as well, when i am running on power saver mode, it gives me 200/500 mhz... i set it up also for entertaiment mode...

now i think what about 10.5 catalysts.... if it make sence to try them... currently i am on 10.4 without any prob...

Absolutely have no issues for doing shortcuts like that. I just don't want to cripple features like VGA, HDMI, etc if I don't have to.
