I saw that, the GTX 460M hits even on 900 the core speed I think. How can I do that too? (Some guy told me that he downpgrade the drivers, and then he could do that)

Tell him you want to see some screenshots, though, kind of hard for me to believe. Because, you can put the clocks at 900mhz, take the SS, but doesn't mean it's 100% stable.

unless you can put another 150+ mhz, there is no big difference in fps. just 1/2 fps

I'm not sure if I should worry but Furmark makes my OCed GPU max out at 89 C. When gaming, I don't really see it go beyond 80 C.

On the manage 3D settings, there's alot of options there. When you change from performance, balance and quality, the mnt. 3D settings adjust themselves, you have to try them. Also you have to OC to the highest your GPU could do and remaining stable in games with the highest FPS. It's fun but alot of work (trial and error).

There's a direct correlation between FPS and benchmarks too, but has to remain stable in games.. My 832 / 1664 shader / 1700 memory remains stable in Witcher 2 (very graphic demanding) while keeping the GPU cool. I've gotten to 840 core clock with 1500 memory and not crash. Always run your games at 1080p and OC... Have Throttle stop program just incase..

I have Crysis 2 and I must say that runs really well even on battery.

As for PCSX2, I get it to run at full PS2 speed. :D

    Thats great news mate, thanks.
I was half happy with my old xps performance in emulators, but it shown quite a bottleneck on the gpu.
The gtx460m should have sufficient power for emulators when paired with the 2630qm..at least it should do more or less equal or better than a 9800m gtx.

As for gaming, the sli 9800m gtx was good, but I'm expecting better performance from the g53sw for the reasons above ;)

btw with 266.58 driver crysis 2, the witcher 2, dirt 3 is very laggy even with overclock but with 275.33 Nvidia Driver, i can play the witcher 2 with ultra settings 1080p, and dirt 3 is dramatically smooth with just updating driver.

Quick question mate, where to get the 275.33 compatible with my g53sw? Nvidia site says that my gpu is an alienware (lol) and that i need the manufacturer driver.

Uhm thanks sarge but same error happens. Actually ive been able to install verde 275.33 by using a modded inf, dont ask me why.
Standard verde driver from nvidia doesnt find my gpu. And geforce.com autoscan says its an alienware gpu.
Just want to know if thats normal...someway.
My gpu seems 3dmark06 stable at 800/1600/1550. Anything above the core crashes the video driver...bad luck, i was hoping at least 850 on the core. Even 820 crashes the video driver in 3dmark06.
Temps are cool thought. Average of 71°c when oced, the max ive seen 75.
Also i didnt formatted yet, im using stock asus OS. Does anyone advice to format? Im getting 15k in 3dmark06 oced.

Actually I have already tested 840/1680/1600 on 3dMark06 but best result can be taken on 825/1650/1600 mine was 17099 max. This can be achieved only with 275.33 previous one and this completely different. On this card I almost tried everything :) and I will post my all test results with picture soon here hope will be helpful and one more thing Nvidia's own control is the key,,,

Google PhysX. Since it runs on your vidj-a card, making it CPU bound will slightly decrease load on the GPU. But ... drastically increases CPU load, since it's all 'bout parallel processing.

Just want to share my new findings.
So I've formatted my sw,removed recovery partition and installed a fresh copy with serial on the back.
This time however I tried 275.36 quadros modded since I heard good things.
Guess what. I'm able to oc and stay stable with 815/1600 (can't remember shaders, those are linked to core) and I gained 2fps more in Crysis 2 extreme dx9 benchmark, an average of 28fps, with spikes well into 35s.
3dmark06 still slightly below 16k, I know that in order to achieve 16k I need at least 825-850 on core, but it's not stable.
I'm still happy of the results though.
It's good to see that with mixed ultra/extreme settings in dx11+high res I'm able to hit 30fps of average in central park map.
    This little card does wonders!

using Riva Turner and the 275.50 beta driver I pushed my GTX460M to 850/1690/1600 and have yet to see a problem.

One thing that haunts me though that the GPU temp can get as high as 85*C. Is that dangerous or can I calm down and keep playing?

No it was on a totally different post not to worry you wouldn't have known. :D

The good thing is your temps are fine people commonly compare mobile temps to desktop and they are marginally different because of our restricted cooling.

But we can carry ours about, they cant :p

Newer benchmarks. 814-1600-1628. If i raise about 1mhz the driver crashes, so i pretty nailed down my max OC. These clocks are stable in both 3dmark06 and 11,but not in Crysis 2.
However, Crysis 2 benchmark likes 810-1600-1620.

    3dmark06 run, 814-1600-1628, 275.50 beta:

3dmark11 run, same settings as above:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor,ASUSTeK Computer Inc. G53SW score: P2325 3DMarks
Funny to notice that with betas, compared to .33 and quadro .36, i lost 3 points. Same thing happens on my desktop, 1 point less.

Dirt 3 run, dx11, 1080p, mix ultra/very high. Only post process on medium. 8xCsaa. Gained alot in this:

    benchmark directx_version="11" author="Zero" date="18:42:04 on 06/07/2011" machine="Zero-PC"
    average min_fps="46.179356" av_fps="55.770554" min_fps_ms="21.654697" av_fps_ms="17.930609"

NVIDIA makes System Tools for this, but it's not the best solution. I myself prefer NVIDIA Inspector. It's light, and can even modify your game profiles. Plus it can make desktop shortcuts for various clocks of the 3 modes of operation. (idle, medium, and high performance) It can also go beyond the standard min and maxes, unlike MSI Afterburner, which is RivaTuner with a facelift, and old.

    You can get it here.

There's also the current GPUTweak from Asus, which Unwinder is unhappy to see. :D

ok guyes, such an awesome thread.

i have a question tho, (MAYBE CHASTITY WILL HELP ME CUZ HE LOOK LIKE HE HAVE A GOOD EXPERIANCE WITH THOSE THINGS)

    i have an asus g53jw laptop with the gtx460m and i7 740qm

my gpu tempratures at stock clocks are 93c on furmark, and when i overclock it to 814-1500-1628 and run furmark the tempratures will be 93c too !

but the problem is wheather i run it on stock speed or overclock my gpu will throttle down after it reaches 93c (even if i use my stock clock speeds it will be the same).

why is that ? how can i stop it ? i alraedy cleaned the vents ...... please help me !

PS:this doesnt happen with furmark ONLY, ithappen when i play games like the witcher 2 and modern warfare 2 and many other games that are gpu intensive !

also i ahevt the latest drivers form nvidias website, and i also overclock using nvidia tools.

i also want to ask Kingpinzero about the tempratures he is having with stock speeds and when he over clock to 814-1600-1628

and another question too you say it is 814-1600-1628 but for me the max is 1500 fo the memory... how did you get it to 1600 ? XD

sorry i asked alot of questions but it is very rare to find a thread with a good people like you guys !

    1) You need to use a better overclocking app other than some RivaTuner clone. Like the apps I just linked to in msg 85.

    2) If your overclock is triggering a safety throttle while under load, then maybe you need to run it at lower speeds.. Or open the badboy up and redo the paste to improve temps.

as far as i know my g53jw is the same as g73jw but a smaller size 15.6'' XD.

the program i am using is from nvidia website, but what is the difference ? they all overclock.

second thing is i ALWAYS USE THE SETTING ''MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE'' in nvidia control panel instead of ''ADAPTIVE'' so will that effect the tempratures ? XD

please i am really scared and i dont know how to repaste and i dont want to send it back to asus/newegg for a replacement or to repaste it, it will take 1 3WEEKS TO 1 MONTH !

ps: I ALREADY SAID THAT WHETHER I AM OVERCLOCKING OR NOT THE TEMPRATURES ARE THE SAME ! WHICH IS 93C WELL FOR THE STOCK IT RUNS UP TO 88C NOT BIG DEAL !

    Yo
I use nvidia inspector for overclock and Msi afterburner for checking the temps when stress testing using the OSD.
As for temperatures in furmark i reach 84c,while usually in games and benchmarks it sits around 71-78c,depends.
I'm using a Zalman Nc-3000 as a cooler if that helps. Try to lift the laptop on the back with something, that helps.
Also I don't advice to use nvidia system tools because it's not affidable and it's known to cause a mess with voltages and clocks.
The programs I'm using let's you oc the memory beyond 1600mhz. My max seems to be 1650,anything higher glitches and artifacts.

so do you recommend me to buy the sf-19 ? becasue it is really beautiful looking and the fans are amazing !

but my tempratures are different that because i use the old g53jw with the 1st generation of core i7 which is the 740qm and you use the sandy bridge one... maybe because of that ?

can you tell me if you run it without a cooler what are the tempratures, and those programs you use, you have to overclock it everytime you start your computer or it will automatically overclock itself when windows start.

thank you very much i really need help from you guys !

I recommend to get a laptop cooler because it raises the back of the laptop which helps considerably into dropping temps.
I don't know the SF,never had the pleasure.

But afaik the Zalman I'm using keeps the temperatures from raising fast, slowing them down. Without it, I can reach 86c in furmark at those clocks we mentioned.
The nc3000 basically is made from aluminum, it has 3 8cm fans that blow air directly on the bottom panel. G53,both revision, doesn't have vents on the back panel but blowing cool air helps dissipate the heat because both CPU and gpu are reverse mounted, so they are facing directly the bottom.

As for the programs, you can set the auto overclock on windows start with Msi Afterburner.
However that applies even on battery therefore the optimized powerplan will not be effective.
So my advice is to find your stable OC and then using nvidia inspector, there's an option called "create clocks link shortcut".
It places a shortcut on desktop with your oc, in this way you need only to double click it everytime you want to use the oc profile.

Also your temps looks too much high. First blow some compressed air in the front vents using either a compressor or electronic canned air.
If that doesn't help, you need to repaste both CPU and gpu. I advice either ICD or arctic cooling MX-4 which is awesome.

Also old g53/73 can push the gtx460 way beyond my limit, usually u should be stable around 850/1700/1600. That's because the gpu is not integrated on the mobo like the newer g53sw.

    Hope it helps.

yes it helps so much, but where can i buy a compressed air, is it avilable in bestbuy ? or frys ? or where ? thanks alot again !

for the cooler i found a couple of coolers in newegg :

Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Notebook Cooler Model NotePal U3 R9-NBC-8PCK-GP ( this one i like the most since you can put the fans wherever you want, but it is a usb powered which might be a slow fans...)

Newegg.com - Cooler Master SF-19 Notebook Cooler Model SGA-4000-KKNF1 (this is the sf-19 i was talking about)

Newegg.com - ZALMAN Notebook Cooler Model ZM-NC3000U (zalman cooler , it is usb powered too, but is it good ? or it is slow ?)

Newegg.com - ZALMAN Notebook Cooler Model ZM-NC3000S (another zalman cooler model)

CAN YOU TELL ME WHICH ONE IS THE BEST FOR MY LAPTOP IT WILL REALLY MEAN ALOT TO ME SINCE I DONT HAVE ANY EXPECRIANCE WITH LAPTOP COOLERS.

PS: when i overclock my gpu to 815-1500-1630 after 2 min of gamepaly it will restore it to its default factory clock speed.

thank you again very much for your help !

Mind you the SF-19 comes in a USB 2.0 and 3.0 flavor.

    Yo,
I would advice either the sf-19 or the zalman nc3000 (not the s). USB powered means slower fans, but you need to take into account 2 things:
    - noise
    - portability
Zalman wins on both. Its not huge, doesn't need an external ac and it's silent.

As for the compressed Air, get one or two cans of canned air for electronics. They should sell them in the places you mentioned.

As for the clocks, if you're crashing at those speeds then that's your limit.
Try my clocks 814/1628/1600 and see if those are stable.
Mind you my clocks are stable in benchmarks only but not in all the games like Crysis 2.
My stable gaming oc is 810/1620/1600.

yeh when i use 814-1500-1628 (just like the gtx560m but with higher memory clock, it runs perfect on furmark with tempratures max at 93c.

about zalman, my question is WILL IT COOL MY GPU/CPU OR I SHOULD GET THE SF-19 BETTER BECAUSE IT HAS 2600RPM WITH AC ADAPTER INCLUDED ?

    thanks again for everything.

edit: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dust-Of...?id=1218188550859&skuId=9881613&st=compressed is this one good ?

PS: ELECTRIC CANNED AIR = ANTISTATIC CANNED AIR ?

http://imageshack.us/f/695/unledpyl.jpg/ this is my tempratures on stock speeds NOTHING IS OVERCLOCKED, my gpu throttled down, my fps was 22 and then it throttled down to 15 after it reached 93c !!

is there any program to stop throtteling my gpu ?

omg i ask alot of questions XDDDD i know and i am sorry :)
